  • " The Basque are a unique people with there own language".... fuck off.... they are dirty little rebels. always have been, always will be. they can keep there " cultural difference" as long as its under a unified spain.

  • wish this still happened here like the good ol days

  • Besides Casinos becoming more prevelant, how did Jai Lai's popularity decrease so much ?? Use to be 20+ Frontons now only 5. JaiLai's USA headquarters in 1990s make bad decisions , not use marketing and advertising?

  • Interesting sport, Golf balls are faster but they usually don't hit you in the face. Although many people have been killed by golf balls. No joke, look it up.

  • If you think horse racing is fixed, go try making some money on this!!

  • FINALLY a sport I can play to get away from those nasty lefties!

    RIGHT POWER!

  • Thumbs up if Jackass brought you here

  • That sport look more dangerous than football!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if Jackass brought you here.

  • Okay so, these sort of documentaries are what make me fall asleep in class.

  • I learn about this sport in Physics class while learning about velocity and momentum.

  • This sport is ridiculously expensive...

  • thats a par man, fuck u lefties!!

  • Archer and Ramone

  • @MrGrevy why don't you enlighten us and tell us about what kind of non sport is for intelligent people like you? That is asuming you even know about something other than football, baseball or Basketball.

  • There are several sports derived from Jai Alai. Its pkayed in many countries mainly Spain, France, Mexico, Cuba. Variations of this are raquetball, vasc ball, squash, padel and even hand fronton. Its very exciting and requires to be in good shape and strategy.

  • First saw Jai alai at Dania, 1970. Wow! Fast! Amazing sport.

  • The best part is when, at 5:41, Jesse Jackson does a little cameo, giving us a shimmy.

  • I used to go to Miami, Dania and Palm Beach Jai Alai as a kid. My Dad is Fred Morales. Played in Dania and Palm Beach from '85-93.

  • YES, the music!

  • The first time I heard of it was in Dania Beach, FL. I've never seen any mention of it or any reference to it anywhere else in the US. Now, I just saw inside the Dania facility while watching Burn Notice last week. I had no idea was it was since I've never met anyone else who had ever heard of it.

  • Vale juego toda dia.

  • I first heard about this sport on Miami Vice.

  • Tron

  • jackass!!

  • His reputation is expanding faster than the universe.

  • Oh great,...flamenco music to explain this basque sport...just because is in Spain.

    rlly tired of this stereotypes

in Unites State all are cowboys then?

  • @manups60 English is not your language, I guess?

  • @patrik702 you guess well....but i try it. ;)

  • who's here because they heard about it in mad men?

  • @thewolf1308 Me.

  • 1.58 my village Bidarte,goazen !!! :)

  • Jai alai is the fastest ball sport in the world which comes from the Basque Country, northern Spain.

  • "i used to practice inside a nuclear power plant"

  • The Reason Why It's The Way The Court is Set Up . If a Left Handed Player Was To Throw He Would Hit The Other Player Because of Position i am Left Handed but Learn how to play right Handed . if The Court Was the other way then a left handed player can play hope that helps

  • yeah i don't get why left handed people can't play. your still throwing it against the wall... what does it matter what arm?

  • whats the song called around 1:00

  • Like if you know tron got one of their classic games from this.

  • The golf ball is the fastest moving ball in sports, even though it's almost the slowest moving "sport" (I don't count golf as a sport)

  • so is this still considered the fastest sport?

I think racquetball is faster now right?

    anyone know?

  • The Basques were the 1st Europeans to play sports with balls....n have the biggest balls.............

  • Wow, amazing sport. Whoever manufactures the balls must be making a killing at $100 per 20 minutes.

  • $25 twenty minutes of game with 3 more frieds... wow, whit that I can play soccer a LOOOOOONG time

  • anyone know where to get these racket things?

  • best sport in the world. end of discussion.

  • I knew alot of the Jai Alai players in Palm Beach back in the mid 80s. Over the years after the strike, i have lost contact. I wish I could find them again. Does anyone remember Osa, Barenda, Mandiola, Felix and Andonegui?? Thanks for posting this, it brings back alot of good memories....

  • This takes me back. I remember watching this game when i was very little, In Tijuana. A few yrs back, they stopped playing. The building is still used for other things.

  • I wouldn't have discovered this amazing sport if it wasn't for Charles Trippy. Go CTFxC!!!!!

  • CTFxC FTW

  • CTFxC FTW!!

  • WTF? No lefties allowed?? WHAT KIND OF BULLSHIT IS THIS?

    Also, CTFxC FTW!!!!

  • @Qber4life He didn't say "allowed"; he said "unable" to play because of the structure of the frontón. If one were to make a frontón facing the opposite direction, only left-handers )or ambidextrous) could play.

  • Charles Trippy sent me. CTFxC FTW!!!

  • the bastket hands remind me of the claw from street fighter on the character Vega

  • CTFxC!!!!!!!!! WOOT!! WOOT!!

  • CTFXC

  • THUMBS UP IF YOUR HERE BECAUSE OF CTFxC!! :)

  • CTFxC FTW

  • thumbs up if you searched this after you saw it on jackass

  • Awesome looking sport.

  • Practise inside a nuclear plant??? Man, is this guy the real homer?

  • the only way i found out about jai alai was from jackass

  • i wanna play right now!

  • Does Dania Beach Jai Alai still get crowds this big? I remember my grandpa used to go there all the time back in the day. I guess it was popular because you could gamble.

  • Wow this looks really hard, but yet it looks really cool! Kinda looks like fun

  • I always drink beer - but I never drink Dos Equis...

  • ...why is saddam making a cesta in the beginning?

  • saw this on one of the jackass episodes. epic ;)

  • hahahahah no lefties allowed, Nadal would not be allowed to even play!!!!!

  • wow. this video totally helped me with my hw.

    :D

    lol. thanks!

  • thumbs up if mad men brought you here

  • @higerto11 totally! just catching up on some old episodes getting ready for the spring... pathetic, I know...

  • Was this documentary sponsored by Sterling, Cooper, Draper & Price?

  • how do i join a team?

  • Did he just say he played in Elementary schools, in his Nuclear Power Plant and in Prison.... anyone see the wrong in all of this?

  • lol golf is the fastest moving sport. someone go the ball to 200 mph

  • Why do they play andalusian music to talk abou the Basques who have nothing to do with that sort of music? Besides that, the reportage is very interesting.

  • @Expatinholland

When I saw the video I thought the same thing, Spanish music?. I think the video had to put Basque music!!.

  • i sorry but jai alai is filipino

  • @robert10197 Spain!!!!!

  • @robert10197 sorry, but you're dead wrong . Jai alai is played in many countries, but it originated in Euskadi by country and language, don't belive me? Then go forth and google.

  • In WWI Jai Alai txisteras ( or zestas) were used to throw hand granades by the Basque soldiers fighting with the french troops during entrenchment battles.

  • Not a game for left handed people.

  • Mendi is my uncle, and Mendi the front court is my Father, that Borat comment is funny, i can't believe I didnt see this before

  • "fastest moving ball in sports" isnt that the golf ball driven of a tee? i thought i read about a 204mph drive somewhere. i might be wrong though.

  • @zaphr89

Actually yes, this footage is old, and new records have far surpassed the old.

The fastest golf ball was recorded at 328 km/h (204 mph) in July 2009, however it's not the fastest sport "ball" or projectile. That honor belongs to the badminton birdie or "shuttlecock" (which qualifies as a ball) recorded in an actual game at 332 km/h (206 mph). The fastest possible controlled hitting speed of a birdie was recorded at 421 km/h (262 mph).

    It's all in Wikipedia.

  • What do you bet on? What team wins or who makes the most points or what?

  • does jai alai not exist anymore??

  • @lilwizz200 yes it does very much in fla and mex europe Just Google Jai-alai

  • @Jaialai12 i found out about it from Mad Men (AMC)

  • @Jaialai12 Haha it doesn't exist anywhere important. It's a shit-non-sport. No true athlete takes it seriously.

  • @lilwizz200 jai alai still exist in the philippines

  • OMG @ 5:02 Borat is at the back xD

  • @yazpaul lol it does look like him . that is Mendi he was a great backcourt player at miami jai-alai for a long time one of the best

  • @Jaialai12 aw.... he really look like borat hehehe my bad

  • o man, best find ever ... mendi is my dad, laughed when i saw him creeping n the background .... and then with the borat comment... p.s. ... he still rocks the mustache

  • Mike Rowe(Narrator) is the man. I wonder how long he's worked for Discovery.

  • Mejor con una musica de Kepa Junkera.

    No os parece?

    Saludos

  • @Garaia1 Pienso lo mismo, esa quitarrita española es lo unico q mata el video

  • i should sue! this sport discriminates against lefties! :)

  • 100 dollars for a ball that lasts 20 minutes? Madness. No wonder this got banned.

  • extreme wall ball lol! that shit looks crazy

  • ¡Viva Euskadi y Jai-alai!

  • they should just use lacrosse balls

  • @uback5 we did try it. has a great bounce to it but ball was to heavy was fun doe

  • im basque and i play since the 3 yars at jai alai or zesta punta and i thing is one of the most quiklye sport

  • Damn this sport discriminates against "lefties"...*Shrugs* Looks like I won't be playing that sport no time soon...

  • @keepthapinit Or you could learn to play with your right hand...

  • It looks like fun, but it would be hard for me to play with my right hand. I can't even throw a football far with my right hand.

  • that and polo

  • @DonalLynchyou Damn Polo is for "righties" only? Sheesh!!! Damn@ me wanting to try something different...Can't play a sport because it discriminates which hand you're dominate with...

  • why don't they just turn the court around :p

  • I have seen left handed players at the closed Milford, CT fronton.

  • cool vid thx for posting

  • its not jai alai its "pelote basque"....

  • It's a very fast, and exciting game to watch. Unfortunately, Jai-Alai attendance has dropped dramatically in Florida when the Florida Lottery began. The Palm fronton was rebuilt and damaged by hurricane before it was completed. It was built and never opened almost 20 years ago. Dania, and Miami Jai-Alai have few regulars. Hopefully, if Slot Machines are installed in these frontons, then maybe attendance will increase.

  • The documentary is fine.

But the guitar music behind (flamenco)is like seeing a Baseball game with chinese music!!

    Flamenco = South

    Basques =North

    Greetings from Euskadi!

  • I think they used it, because it's also from the basque country

  • At this present moment in time (right this minute) I can't hear what is being said on this video because I don't have headphones with me and the library that I'm at doesn't have any available.

I have one very simple question.

Being used as a weapon rather than a sport, how far can a baseball be thrown from one of these mitts?

    100 yards? 150 yards? 200 or more?

  • 200 or more if used as a weapon.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol - 5:32-5:35. They used that footage in the Dos Equis commercial

  • Shame. The place where this was shot(Orlando Jai Alai) is shutting down.

  • ja ja ja Mad Men

  • years ago there was a casino in Las Vegas that had Jai-alai

  • I absolutely loved going to the Fronton in Miami and Dania and also up in Rhode Island of all places.

  • Lol Mad Men

  • It was

  • Shocked it never took off. $100 every twenty minutes for the ball. Great.

  • It is not $100 every 20 minutes for the ball dumass. Just the very outer layer of goatskin on the ball needs to be replaced every 20 minutes - not the entire $100 ball.

  • @LastAttemptUserName The ball costs $100, you have to recover it every twenty to thirty court minutes, unless you get really lucky and throw it on to a metal strip or into the fence that protects the patrons and it rips, then you can get all of 2 minutes out of the cover..the cover has to be cut off and replaced, and that takes 1 day to dry, as the skin is applied wet and the recover costs about 7 USD

  • Mad Men

  • word.

  • When we can play this like in Tron, I'll be interested.

  • I never heard of this before Mad Men tonight

  • When they are talking about basque country, why they put spanish guitar music in the background? This guitar is not played there xD

  • That guitar in the background is derived from a Cuban song ... duh. LOL

  • It does not mind. Every time that something spanish (althought this is only basque) appears in american TV, has spanish guitar music from background xD

  • I used play it at school when i was younger xD

Yes, i am from basque country xD

  • Kinda sucks that left-handed people can't play! They should invent a reversed version for lefties.

  • Kinda like you don't see many lefthanded throwing catchers or shortstops in baseball.

  • I guess you're right....

But at least lefties still have the possibility to take part in a baseball game. It's not limited, like Jai Alai.

  • 7 days,biotch

  • the fastest sport in the world because of the balls' speed. The ball can travel up to 302 km/h (188mph) wow

  • Well, this is not 100% accurate. Left hand players are allowed, and as a matter of fact play the game. Also, there are two variations of the game, The first one is Cesta Punta (Jai Alai as it's known all over the world) in which you are allowed to hold the ball for a brief period of time and "Remonte" in which the ball must be returned to the frontón as if you were playing with a racquet, that is immediately.

  • also, this sport is not at all "a very popular sport in the united states."

  • Ya try getting hit by the ball thats why most people retire

  • This sport makes hockey fights look like tea parties.

  • if your hit that is

  • no lie you need to be a total bad ass, i dont think any football, hockey, baseball player can take a shot to the balls from a 100mph hard rubber ball on a regular basis.

  • Im the most interesting man. I once trained a bear to shoot arrows from the top of a cheetah. I also beat up the hoff and chuck norris at the same time with my unusually large sized penis.

  • the after party is the one you should attend

    stay thirsty my friends

  • 100 bucks for 20 minutes?! dang

  • i don't drink beer but when i do it's dos esquis

  • i dont always drink beer... but when i do, i prefer dos equis.

    stay thirsty my friends.

  • he once had an awkard moment just to see what it feels like

  • I thought his reputation was expanding faster than the universe?

  • THE MOST INTERESTING MAN

  • omg! that music @ 0:35 is soooooooooo 80s!

  • hahaha I am also doing a project on this for gym MR. Ligit

  • lol.

"I'm not gonna guard the extremely dangerous nuclear reactor, I'm gonna practice Jai alai!"

    5:01

  • LMAO...nor will I guard these dangerous criminals in Sing Sing....I'm gonna bounce the ball off the barbed wire fencing.

  • is that keith hernandez in the background at 5:15

  • this helped me a lot with a research project i had to do in gym

  • Neat. I hope to see it one day.

  • I'm in Palm Beach and I can tell you that Jai Alai is crazy!

  • it's like a psycho version of squash

  • GUAAAH. Too much synthesizer!
