  • this lick is my life

  • m-audio Bx5a??????

  • when i seen the title i thought he was gonna do a stupid chromatic run lol

  • hes actually stamping on avenged sevenfold one by one for bonus points.

  • 1234 12 12345 anyone else here it that way?

  • 0:54 isn't that from buckethead's solo from "Welcome to Bucketheadland"?

  • @dydziooo Paul GIlbert is Bucketheads teacher and there are lots of other things that BH got from PG, like Big sur moon, which uses pauls echo technique.

  • @ace41r big sur moon was done way before pauls echo technique

  • @ace41r BH has been playing w/ PG since he was 15 (PG was 18 at the time) for all we know Paul got from him. Both are talented as fuck, and this lick is lyk cake to both of them.

  • @dydziooo buckethead plays that lick very often (or variations of it)

  • I can stomp as fast as him

  • The only thing faster then his playing is how fast he turns off his volume.

  • Paul Gilbert is really "tone" deaf lol

  • @jimmycrackcorn1981 and you are "music" deaf lol

  • evh originated some of this pattern in little dreamer, eruption, and maybe at the end of ice cream man, unless paul actually played on that first album... yngvie said that album was unusually well played he he... also demartini further stole the lick and worked it into back for more, only he used it with 3 whole steps, and initiated it with some kind of elusive timing.

  • hahahah living after midnight. badass

  • This lick is in almost every song or solo (at a concert) played by paul

  • my god, someone give him a sandwich please!!!

  • Awesome.

  • @mattw8675 yeah I think you pretty much nailed it

  • @2009Ubuntu a few months with PG will lol but with respect to buckethead he has some really insane shit too.... pointless to compare

  • Bucketwho???

  • It seems like all the famous 'shredder' videos' comments aren't even about the actual videos anymore, just fanboy arguments. Who cares who is better? That's not what music is about.

  • Paul rules!!! The Sound Guitar Magazine Johnny Hiland and Jason Macedo...

  • Shave the beard keep the hair Paul.

  • It's not the same lick that bucket plays

  • guys PG and BH are different, PG is a normal shred guitarist who just makes solo licks etc. and studies guitar on his own day in day out for prob over 30 years or so. Buckethead is as sick as him on guitar, but i dont think he studies music like PG does. Its logical hes a bit more sloppy, he probably doesnt play half as much.

  • The Welcome to Buckeheadland lick is in triplets actually.

  • I finally found how to do this lick after have searching for it for4 weeks! :D

  • @loljoje5 Where did you find it???!!!

  • @loljoje5 hey mind giving me the tabs for it, i cant find it anywhere

  • living after midnight(8)

  • is that a cat for a screen saver?

  • i love this lick its just what i was looking for and buckethead is great too i like to say, them guitars with there delade dadode da do do is just great!

  • yes i love that lick!!

  • could someone please give me the tabs for this

  • is there a tab for this anywhere???

  • @majicOlll

its in one of the back-in-the-day Total Guitar mags but he adds a tapping bit to it instead of picking it so it sounds 19-dimensional :P

pauls secret lick or something its called.

  • tabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • haha nice graphic animations at the start on LESSONS

  • he does that a lot

  • i used to think buckethead was paul gilbert in disguise. cause that would be awesome

  • @chrisbDTM buckethead is not as clean.no shame there .not many are

  • @MUDSHARK111

cleaner than buckethead? no, they are equally clean. buckethead has messed up occasionally, but when you have a mask over your face and guitar with no fret markers it's near impossible not to mess up every once in a while.

  • @Fluffypopcicle "cleaner than buckethead? no, they are equally clean.im sorry there realy not" dont get me wrong my wife is not gona now the difference .but then she thinks i sound like vinnie moore and cant hear the difference in how much cleaner he is than me .if you cant hear it you cant hear it but trust me when i tell you your wrong . buckethead is occasionally sloppy, even when sitting down .

  • @MUDSHARK111

    prove it.

  • @Fluffypopcicle I can lead a horse to water .im sorry if you cant hear it but no amount of me pointing out muddy neck pick-up licks borrowed from Gilbert played with less accuracy by buckethead is going to change your mind. get practising listen to every skilled player. work it till its sound like a card stuck in the spokes of a bike then we can talk. because then you will know .

  • @MUDSHARK111

i meant give me a video or something like that. describing it won't do anything. of course you try to sound like you know something and give an excuse to why you can't prove it. im not even sure if you have ever listened to a buckethead solo lol. buckethead hardly ever uses his neck pickup when he plays paul gilbert licks.

  • @Fluffypopcicle.you dont know what your talking about ,but when you do as I said then you will know. Until then your just an ignorant kid trying to tell a player of over 20 years something you dont yet have the tools to understand lol .buckthead regularly plays with the neck pick up and you can even hear that Jesus you haven't even started to understand.lol talk to you in 3 years may be then .

  • @MUDSHARK111

okay, it's been 3 years and you're still retarded. yes, buckethead uses his neck pickup frequently, but for shred he usually uses the neck pickup much less than the bridge. just look at where the pickup selector is. you still bring NO valid evidence to the plate anyways. saying you don't have to show me proof, it's just something experienced musicians can hear, is like saying a musician sucks just because. no real reason, just a stupid attempt to sound experienced.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

It's mostly about your perception of what you hear. Two years ago when I first heard BH I thought he's flawless. But after these 2 years of listening to Paul I've watched a couple of BH videos here on youtube and the guy is sloppy sometimes. He's fast and pretty accurate but he can't touch Paul. TBH I don't know a guitar player who CAN touch PG when it comes to accuracy. He can hit a bad note in a solo, but never gets totally derailed by it.

  • @NowaqP

yes, he can be sloppy, but if paul put a bucket on his head, a mask over his face, and played a guitar with no fret markers, i guarantee you he would be very sloppy. you want somebody cleaner than paul? i will give you 4: shawn lane, guthrie govan, rusty cooley, and david shankle.

  • @Fluffypopcicle

Did you ever try to shred? A lot of times, playing the patterns you know it's actually easier to play not looking at the guitar since you don't think about where your fingers go and just focus on the pattern. Shawn Lane was pretty terrifying, but he's gone now. And I don't think any of these guys is 'cleaner'. They are 'as clean'. But you can't be better than perfect. Come on.

  • @NowaqP

it's not the fact that he is playing tricky patterns, it's where he is supposed to play those tricky patterns. i say those people are more clean than paul gilbert because they play trickier stuff, but play it just as clean, if not cleaner than paul gilbert.

  • @chrisbDTM

    Maybe he is :)

  • @chrisbDTM They do have equally large fingers!

  • aaahhh thats such a wierd timing!

  • Except paul Gilbert is better than buckethead >.>

  • greek folk pontiac music uses this time signatures all the time,it sounds nuts..check it out

  • no feel, no passion not worth my time frankly

  • @mattm465

What? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Do you expect him to have tears in his eyes teaching someone a lick?

  • @mattm465 you don't understand guitar playing if you don't appreciate what this guy does, go listen to clapton or better yet slash.

  • buckethead is student of paul gilbert..buckethead use same licks with him.. but GILBERT IS LEGEND....HE IS ONE OF THE BEST ......

  • @theawakener7 thank you for put it in technical terms so we could all under stand, but wouldnt the two "diddlys" be 3 notes played quickly togehter?

  • can anyone tabs this please?it would make me super happy

  • paul gilbert and steve vai both have mutated hands from playing guitar excessively for so long

  • I'm not really a fan of that pattern played so quickly. I thought it sounded much prettier slowed down. The technical merit is definitely there, but artistically it just sounds like mush. Few notes sound prettier played faster.

  • his pinky is longer then his others fingers

  • @Kibiragalvis I don't think his pinkie is longer than the others. It seems like it's just extended more.

  • thats fucking sick.

  • anyone got the tab?

  • 00:44 HAHAHA loved it xD

  • for rhythm, was he trying to play Living After Midnight?

  • @cobracarg yea he even says it

  • im taking this lick 4 the win

  • Bruce Bouillet does that lick a lot of times too..

.. hmm i wonder when they were still in racerX & who's the one who came up with the idea.

  • Is that a reverse Iceman he's playing? He has the oddest taste in guitars. His instructional bits are always very good and entertaining.

  • it is his own design, it is called the "fireman".

just to add: pg is freaking amazing.

  • Fireman......

  • sounds like one of bucketheads solos, but then again buckethead did go to paul for lessons

  • Not for long. Pepper brown was bucketheads teacher for a very long time. PG only taught him for a very short while.

  • I'm sure it made a difference though, I wonder why he chose to teach BH though =/

  • pebber brown

  • @MistahhB And yet Bucketheads picking and legato technique is virtually identical to Pauls very distinctive ones (nothing at all like the techniques pebber insists people should learn in his videos, no 'sarod' picking or anything like that), he uses very similar licks to Paul (again distinctive) and in the few interviews he has done he ALWAYS mentions Paul Gilbert as a massive inspiration and help in his playing, he has never mentioned pebber in one. Its pretty clear who had the biggest impact.

  • @Necropenguins i think pg had a big influence on bh because bh took lessons from him when he was like 15, so i guess that is around when bh was developing all this licks.

  • @MistahhB Strangely if you attempt to post any of this information (all of which is 100% true and easily verifiable using google) on any videos relating to pebber then be prepared to recieve relentless misdirected abuse and ridiculous arguments from the same group of 3 or 4 guys every time who claim to be close friends of pebber. Highly dubious all the way.

  • @ibanezxiphos700 i doubt paul was teaching him how to shred for fuck sake.

  • @fallios

    he was bucketheads guitar teacher.

  • @ibanezxiphos700 Buckethead didn't "go to paul" for lessons. They worked with each other, teaching each other things. Buckethead had been playing guitar for near 15 years before him and PG worked together, I think he already had his own style established by then.

But yes, Buckethead does use some PG-ish licks, but that's because he respects him so much. It's kind of like an homage to PG.

  • @ibanezxiphos700 or maybe theyre the same person

  • @ibanezxiphos700 buckethead puts this lick in EVERY solo of his

  • paul gilbert is god

    00:49 - 00:50 Hair loss fail

  • DON'T!

  • WOW!

  • Oh dear.. the master really knows his stuff

  • tabs? any body?

  • Nice amish beard.

  • 0:53 ...same lick as welcome to buckethead land...bt its paul's signature lick...

  • paul taught buckethead

  • @srng619 yea hugh that lick got stuck in buckethead's head lol

  • @srng619

it's not the exact same, but similar.

  • @srng619

well, what i meant to say is the whole solo isn't just that lick. the first part is though.

  • @srng619 well that and alot of people do it... yngwie malmsteen did it for example, not exactly like that, but its a part or a scale i believe, its really just that paul and buck both use it alot

  • @srng619 Absolutely Correct Mate! cuz hes Buckethead teacher, and Buckethead Influences! Love them both ae, Paul G. & Buckethead 2 of my guitar Influences ever!

  • 0:46 to 0:53 is the chorus of Judas Priest-Living After Midnight........FANTASTIC i just learnt it from this video!!Paul does 2 lessons or maybe 3 in 1!!!!!! And tabs at ultimate-guitar sucks horse balls!! Paul Owns!

  • he just had like eight coffees or something bro. haha

  • ye thanks you make it look easy -_-''

    =D

  • thats a classic paul gilbert lick tbh

  • i used to think buckethead was the most amazing guitarist ever...then i saw this guy...i was blown away lol

  • because i like his playing, okay? i still like his music more than gilbert's, i just think paul can play better

  • check out jason becker or shawn lane then .........

  • will do, thank you!

  • omw...thats ryt...O.o

  • was that a bald spot in his hair when he bent down?

  • No, just a bunch of hair spots all around his bald.

  • that's a pretty tricky lick Paul =] it sure takes practice ehh?

  • whats the point of emotion in a song if you dont show it, look at paul gilbert and his fast licks, look at him, thats emotion, its not mental its phsical, how can you put on a great show if you stand in the same spot

  • Comment removed

  • you obviusly have no idea what you are talking about

  • ok what ever you say, your obviously right, how did i not see that!

  • you really should keep your shit comments to yourslef btw cause you have no idea what the hell i know and what i dont know about guitar so shut the fuk up

  • Watch him play live and you'll see he doesn't stand still.

  • idc

  • @123satanic321 If a song is written well enough, a musician shouldn't have to move when playing it. In my opinion, most "emotion" conveyed by moving on stage is empty.

  • nope paul's the man but buckethead is very close

  • Agreed, but you gotta give credit to the teacher

  • buckethead sucks no emotion

  • If you download or buy some of Bucketheads many solo albums you`ll hear alot of emotion in his songs. He is not just about speed and technique. He is a complete player.

  • no offense to you, i think bucket head is really good, but YOU KNOW he does just stand on stage most of the time and just tilt his head to the side, then again i cant see through his mask so maybe he does, i still think paul gilbert is better, cause without him buckethead would be another shred guitarist without extra ordinary skills

  • I like Paul Gilbert better too but I think it`s wrong when people make remarks about Bucketheads playing when many, not all, barely have listened to his music.

  • i agree, basically every guitarist excels in a certain skill, to say one is better than the other is on opinion

  • ignorant statement about buckethead. As usual

  • another smart ass remark from someone who had nothing to do with the conversation.

  • its youtube, its the comment section, everyones involved, doesnt change the fact that it was ignorant saying he has no emotion.

  • would of been smart to read the rest of the conversation

  • One of the main points of Buckethead is to listen to the music and not care about the man behind the mask. The music he creates is full of emotion, the character however does stand there, just so you can listen and not think about him. So just blatantly stating "no emotion, stands and tilts head" is showing the ignorance of what Bucket really is.

  • is it ignorant or informed to say 90% of what gilbert plays is an overpractised pattern? I mean here hes going on about an 11 note patter - i think theyre called nondecatuplits - but jazz and fusion players play this sort of thing all the time, while improvising!

  • Not really, just a bit of an over statement. Pauls got his own signature licks that he recycles a lot when he's improving, but listen his records. Back before the instrumenta ones he sang and only had basic enough guitar work with neat solos and on the instrumental ones he has a pretty wide lick and riff repetoire.

But on these vids all over youtube its all the same thing.

  • Comment removed

  • Buckethead has ridiculous amounts of emotion, you just decide to ignore it. And he does not stand still, I have videos of a concert I went to and he was plenty active on stage. Not to mention the dancing and the nuncucks.

  • Listen to Sail on Soothsayer and The Landing Beacon you faggot.

  • This guy is sooooo insane on guitar!!!! One of my personal favs

  • heh, all this time i thought this was bucketheads signature (to a point of overusage) lick, but apparently he got it from paul! still love both of them to shreds though

  • What Kind of GUitar is Gilbert Using? Its Beautiful

  • Ibanez Fireman ;)

  • Iceman

  • no hes right with the fireman, pauls new sig model is the fireman due to the reverse iceman shape

  • wow he messed up playing a jp song

  • OMG PG played a song wrong O_o

  • Hehe look at his eyes and his movement pattern :P I'd say speed or coke, but it could also be too much coffee ;) awesome player anyhow! pz

  • thats called the electric guitar, similar to a drug but not at all...

  • Hehe funny, but no. Im not critizing since I've been using when I was younger and I play guitar And im a PG fan. I don't care if he does heroin(which he obviously isn't). Nothing will ever change my musical opinions about him. Pz

  • He's said in an interview with Ultimate Guitar that he doesn't do drugs.

  • Why is this a big deal? I don't do drugs either, but i have when I was young and naive.

Mind you, this pattern has been played by buckethead as a standard shred phrase ev er since paul taught him 20 years ago!

  • Yeah, I was just clarifying. I don't do drugs, but I don't care if other people want to do them.

  • He doesn't do drugs and he's a really energetic person, which you'd have to be to be able to play as fast as he does.

  • He definitely can play, and not just fast but also musically. Someone needs to make him eat more though.

  • Dear paul, stop playing these licks, you`re going to make me want to quit playing guitar and take up the kazoo!

  • Reminds me of his gargoyle song.

  • beautiful guitar :)

  • Yeah it is a beautiful guitar, but at $9000-$10000 dollars I don't think I'll be getting one soon. Why couldn't Ibanez just put these out and have them priced near a normal iceman? They always have to do limited runs and raise the price to outrageous proportions. $9000 dollars for a reverse Iceman?

  • The shavings of the Korina wood that they use for the guitar are actually poisonous. Because of this it has to be manufactured in a separate factory. Higher overheads = much higher retail price :( Gutted, they sound SO good!!! Saw him play one last Dec, I was about 4 meters away. What a tone!!

  • absolutely amazing as always

  • This video makes him look like he has a huge noise...

  • That's because he does have a huge nose. There's another video of him on here from an old music video he did that really accentuates its size, and lots of people comment about it. I think it's where he gets most of his tone. Kidding, but it is huge.

  • Living After Midnight. =D

  • hey it looks like he switched the pickups 2 rails... already! (or maybe its just me)
