  • poor Zeph he would have gotten to Sparks on time if it was not for this idiot who gate ran the ATA rules say gate running is illegal if the driver were alive he would get a three month suspension

  • I know a number of Amtrak employees who work the Zephyr back and forth between Reno and Winnemucca and I know the conductor who was killed in this crash. I shot video of the westbound Zephyr flying through this Ocala, Nevada crossing on April 16, 2011 and the crash was on June 24, 2011. I was standing on the same side of the train as where it was impacted by the big rig when I got my shot on April 16.

  • NTSB or someones investigators found out by the skid marks on the road he did try to brake before hitting the train

  • crazy! thanks for sharing this with me.

  • So this is the incident I heard about. I got word of this while in Reno, which is not very far away.

  • RIP to all of the victoms in the accident. Thanks for posting this.

  • I don't think you can just steal photos from SFGate like that

  • @fixierider97 I gave them credit for the photos though, so I'm not saying their mine.

  • Damn! That makes me not want to ride the train lol.

  • Frightening photographs!

I read of new reports that a Nevada trucking company that operates the doomed truck has a rather checkered history. Its workforce has a bad reputation of driving trucks unsafely and crashing. It was also cited multiple times for using bald truck tires, which posed an "imminent hazard to public safety". These findings could help us solve the puzzle of this horrific accident.
