Sorry to intrude. But did jamie work on the model sequences? On the top gun special edition disc there is the big making of documentary there is a section on the Model unit that did the flat spin sequence, the exploding mig 28s, hollywood being shot down etc. I haven't watched enough mythbusters to see the tomcat on the wall. But the models they did build were awesome! even the stripes on Mavericks helmet were there.

I worked mostly on Hornet, and it's so much easier on maintenance, but TomCat is just one damn good looking aircraft and the weapons system was the best for it's time period. Hope they save enough of them so we can't just see them on videos.

Such a shame the F14 is gone but it is old tech and it could struggle a little now. same with a few others still being used the harrier is one sadly and the UK is pretty planned to remove them all within the next few years at the rate things are going , we only have like 3 squadrons with them now. , at least we will get 2 new carriers which will be filled with Dassult's and F35's Eventually.

Awg-9 was a great system, yes I know thats the original un digitalized version but thats the one I learned. The Navy doesn't really use long range missiles much anyway. The Phoenix was a smaller version of the larger, longer ranged Air Force missile, and Tomcat was designed primarily to carry it. We (Navy) have stuck more with and train for close in combat, the Air Force goes more with longer range attack. I am usually very critical of game videos, but this one is much better than most.

@PhoenixShadow000, Sadly it wasn't designed that way. I mean the second seat was used for the radar so that the pilot wouldn't look down as much. Still, it was a good plane that could carry the long range Phoenix Missile and it had longer range since it was a bigger aircraft.

@PhoenixShadow000, here's the thing you didn't know. Back in 1976 when Iran was our friend we gave them 76 F-14's. When they became our enemies in 1979, we cut off giving them parts and any essential upgrades. So basically they have flown that plane very few times, but when they have flown it in the Iran Iraq war, they were very successful against Iraqi Mirage's.

@PhoenixShadow000, the Tomcat was designed to be an air superiority fighter for the Navy. They tried to make similar one, but it was too big for the Navy so it became the F-111. The F-14 wasn't converted to a fighter bomber until the mid 90's so it would been impossible to drop bombs back in Vietnam. The 2 big problems that wasn't fixed for the Tomcat was an underpowered engine. Remember in Top Gun where the F-14 stalled in a jet wash. Yeah it kind of happened a lot.

@PhoenixShadow000, It wasn't until around 1990 when they got a new engine. Second it was just expensive to repair and maintain. It cost $50,000 per maintenance hour just to keep it going. Still it put fear into the Iraqi's in Desert Storm. During the Iraq/Iran war the Iran F-14 shot a lot of Iraqi planes down. So when the Americans went up against the Iraqi's, the Iraqi's bugged out when they got picked up on the F-14's radar. They didn't want to fight them because they knew they would lose

@redmustang03 yeah, the jet wash is a danger for all planes. It is recoverable from however, but it's hard to do so depending on the situation. It's a horrifying thing when you think about that. But yeah, the F-14's Phoenix missile is probably the most deadly long-range air-to-air missile ever developed. If you get one of those on your six, your done.

Still, the US doesn't really have long range radar weapons anymore. Still, it worked for the Iranians when they fired it. With the Jet Wash for the F-14 with its underpowered engine it was HARD to get out of.
