You're 939 years old? Really? I guess with all the things you've seen and heard, missing out on one tune is pretty trivial stuff. What was the Norman Conquest like? Did you know Plato? Back when they played rock music (on rocks), how could you tell if you didn't like a song?
Another of the BIG CKLW hits I listened to as a child in Detroit! Big time operator rocks to! BIG THANKS to Mojofilter02 for posting this and Tom Middleton's songs! I searched for years to find Tom M's Todd remake. Bought Keith's greatest hits on CD a few years ago. I'm a big TROOPER fan to. Oh yea..LIGHTHOUSE rocks forever! Love those Canadian people! Tony P.
One of my many early 70's childhood memories' hit songs. This was originally written by Mike Hugg (as credited in brackets on label), one of the original members of British 60's pop/beat group, Manfred Mann.
anybody know any background on the production of this song, "Bigtime Operator" and accompanying songs? Excellent Horns, Vocals....! Loved these songs at the time, still do! Catchy, Punchy, Powerful music!!! Keith Hampshire: Canadian Classic!!
An oldies station Vinyle 95.3 based in Hamilton, Ontario has been playing this. Drove me nuts. I could never catch the name. Boy does this bring back lots of good memories
@eiguoc sounds like a great station and I love the call letters -- I listen to CKWW in the Detroit area! -- many Canadians still have that old school melodic soul in their heart - And they gave us a lot of great music and artists
What an awesome song! Thanks for posting this....I remember Keith walking into Smart Set to Shop with his wife in Barrie Ontario and I was a very young girl then and playing his song when he walked in an introduced himself...how cool is that...you rock Keith Hampshire...thank you xo
This was a hit in South Africa in 1973, when I was just a little kiddie. Great tune. I didn't know he was Canadian. Great voice... sounds like the guy from Blood Sweat & Tears.
...and another very fine cover was done by the German "Joy Unlimited" around '69 - and of which I still have got just a poor tape recording taken from a radio broadcast decades ago. Still searching...
Wow! What a great version.Brilliant bassline and supreb horn section. He has a fantastic voice too.Very similar to the main vocalist from Blood Sweat and Tears.
What a booming voice that guy has. Great liner notes at usual too. I remember the competition between CKFH and CHUM. Radio was so different in those days. I think CKFH even had their own version of the Chumchart.
Hampshire was right up there with the best of the power voices in Canada (i.e. Fred Turner, D.C. Thomas, John Kay, Bob McBride). Last I saw him was that Music Machine show of his which lasted a couple of years. What a well arranged song this was.
Another great AM song. Always wanted to dance to this in school. That is one amazing voice and base track.
