  • also this game has one of my favorite Genesis soundtracks EVER... music has been stuck in my head for days! Even caught myself humming it at work..

  • just picked this game up again.. haven't played it in 20 years... so amazing! Was up all night playing and re-playing all the stages so I could be it in one run.. very addicting.

  • 1:39

    No. Just no.

  • There actually are some great shooters that take advantage of the xbox 360 power. Check out :

    Mushihimesama Futari

    Espgaluda II Black Label

    DeathSmiles* These games are awesome!

  • Games were great where you dont really know whats going on! THUNDERFORCEIII had a subtle but hinted story. DOOM: A marine somewhere in space, fighting a threat all alone- even fighting trough hell. But you didn't really know whats going on! So is the same with DIABLO: You fight the devil in some medieval time, but you don't really know what time nor loation you really are! It's just a given situation and "limited possibilities". The rest is your imagination and gaming history!

  • a Awesome shooting game love this old classic..... fun, cool, love the graphics...

  • Needs a review of IV. its even better.

  • I love the Thunder Force series. But Gaiares for the genesis was always my favorite shooter tho.

  • Awesome looking game! Can't believe I never played it as I grew up with the Genesis. (Always a Sega guy) no offense to Nintendo they were good too. Thanks Mark for these awesome reviews! You've got me into a lot of great titles.

  • Looks cool! Any relation to Space Megaforce on the SNES? That game kicks ass!

  • I always thought this game was just another generic shmup, mostly since I played it on the snes, I WAS WRONG.

  • DAMN U I JUST GOT THIS A FEW WEEKS AGO

    SO FUCING GUD

  • TF3 is the only one in the TF series that I really like. In fact I love this game, it's one of my favorite shmups ever. I once managed to beat it on Maniac without losing a single life, that's how addicted to it I used to be. =P

  • i LOVED this game.. thanks 4 mentioning the muzax :)

  • This is one of my favorite games of all time :D

Used to play the arcade version to death.

  • I LOVE THIS GAME! It's really hard, yet really satisfying, so you keep on coming back to it, especially since there's Maniac difficulty for the most skilled. (Check out this user, who plays it on Maniac and it's still "too easy" for him. watch?v=vLUnXOm6o18 ) Music, graphics, gameplay, all top-notch. The music is certainly some of the best on the Genesis.

  • 30 second intro is 30 seconds.

  • @BILLCOSBY9001 Pokemon? Poke yourself, faggot!

  • you should go back to this intro music

  • I have been addicted to this game for a week now. I bought 2, 3 and 4 and this one keeps me glued. Fantastic game and music too!

  • i have a TF3 cart, but it doesn't work, i've opened it up and cleaned everything, it simply refuses to give me anything other than a black screen, i think the chip itself is busted

  • @Edgehead1132 If you have a game genie try plugging it through that, it has a pass through thing so if it's maybe a pirate/fake it could work.

  • My favorite shooter ever, and at least arguably the best music from the 16-bit era.

  • Sega Genesis is also my fave console.

  • I'm still waiting for one of my old buddies to return my copy of Thunderforce 3. Lets see, it's been about 15 years now and I'm still waiting for it. I'm prob. not getting it back. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to hunt anoter copy down. Great review as always, Mark!!

  • I like this one too :) :) :)

  • this game has awesome music

  • This is one of my most favorite shmups, with loads of fun weapons and a good bit of reflexes and memorization needed to push through to the end. Fabulous level design throughout, with more than just scrolling from the right.

Stage Seiren's music is nothing less than perfect for the environment, and is one of my favorite VGM pieces. There isn't a BGM in this game I dislike. though. Tec(h)no Soft is up there with Konami and Square in my VGM-love list.

  • Hell yes! I wish i could find my cart of this. I can find the box but no cart : (

  • Ohh man, I had part 2 and this one... as well... This game's Bad ass.... Wish I had it again

    Good Review

  • I like your reviews, keep up the good work.

  • oh i love the music, as well the rest of the game!!

    instant classic!!!

  • TF3 was the stuff. But TF4 was the stuff cubed.

  • that or 'Lightening Force' as called on the Genesis was truly a haadkore masterpiece indeed.

  • Bang on, TF4 is the stuff of legends lol.

  • @lfdgonzalez THERE'S A TEAM FORTRESS 4?!

    naw, just kidding. :P

  • @lfdgonzalez

The first 5 levels of TF4 were the best shooter of the 16 bit generation.

It was almost entirely downhill from there.

TF3 was the best to that point, but it went downhill a lot slower than its sequel.

  • This game was Awesome!!!

  • thunderforce 3 and 4 are my fav megadrive shoot e ups. they still look amazing :) wish i stilll owned one

  • OMG i had this game, ive been looking for a game like this for a long time its so good

  • I love this Game and Own it. Shame no one puts it in there Top 10 Sega Genesis Lists.

  • And it has some of my Fav Video game music of all time.

  • This was a great game. One of the best on the genesis. Way before it's time.

  • the music in this game is so badass

  • This truly is one of the best games ever released on the Megadrive Genesis and i was my first ever game for it. It is also the best version, i tried the snes version (thunder spirit) and its cack and the arcade version Thunderforce AC just doesnt play well. thank the lord for megadrive emulators.

  • Were you just playing Pokemon or something?

  • Yes! Meow!

  • imo truly one of the best genesis games... 4 was too... just too full imo...

  • I bought this off ebay boxed with manual in great nick recently (along with Syndicate - another top game). I just need to dust off my Megadrive and find a older t.v. I can play it on.

  • wow!!! i can clear this game with juz one fighter even in the most difficult level yrs back!!! can you imagine how many hours i had put in this game? best shooting game on megadrive!!!

  • um.....M.U.S.H.A was in my opinion, but thats your choice

  • hi!!! i had musha too!!! nice game, nice story and nice music. but hard to compare as TF3 is side scroll and Musha is top view.

  • for your info, i bought sega 16bit because i saw musha. mine is the jap version, they call it aleste.

  • do you agree that MUSHA/alest is one of the best SHMUPS ever made? also, since M.U.S.H.A is an acronym, does ALESTE stand for anything?

  • Musha Aleste is the fourth game in the Aleste series which started on the MSX computer platform. The first Aleste (aka Power Strike for Sega Master System in the west) was the sequel to Zanac.

    Aleste (Power Strike) - MSX/SMS

    Aleste Gaiden - MSX

    Aleste 2 - MSX

    Musha Aleste - MD/GEN

Super Aleste (Space Megaforce) - SFC/SNES

Dennin Aleste (Robo Aleste) - M ega CD/Sega CD

  • Tomomi Ootani and Toshiharu Yamanishi are the music composers of one of TecnoSoft's greatist games of all time.

  • Theis game was an imrpovement in the saga then it just got even better.

  • Great review!! I can almost beat it on the hardest difficulty setting.

  • thunder force 4 is way better.

  • Please do a MUSHA review! That is my favorite Genesis shooter!

  • The upcoming MUSHA review is so big, so massive and so comprehensive that's it's taking a while to produce. It is coming!

  • Thank you! :D

More people out there need to know about that awesome shooter!

  • @InecomCompany

Looking foreward for that :-) MUSHA is incredible and have some of the best Genesis music ever!

  • @Nintega WOW you got lucky there

  • Thunderforce 3 is my favorite in the series (though 5 has the best music). As you mentioned, the thrid game is the most fun to play. Great review!

  • now HD has gone genesis hope u do Comic Zone that game was fun and Sonic that game was the pinnacle game for the Genesis

  • It is indeed a GREAT game!

  • Another great review. I'm glad you're covering a lot of titles for the younger people to get into. In only one week, Classic Game Room HD has FIFTEEN EPISODES. Wow!

  • hell yeah!!

  • Yeah, I loved this game!
