just picked this game up again.. haven't played it in 20 years... so amazing! Was up all night playing and re-playing all the stages so I could be it in one run.. very addicting.
Games were great where you dont really know whats going on! THUNDERFORCEIII had a subtle but hinted story. DOOM: A marine somewhere in space, fighting a threat all alone- even fighting trough hell. But you didn't really know whats going on! So is the same with DIABLO: You fight the devil in some medieval time, but you don't really know what time nor loation you really are! It's just a given situation and "limited possibilities". The rest is your imagination and gaming history!
Awesome looking game! Can't believe I never played it as I grew up with the Genesis. (Always a Sega guy) no offense to Nintendo they were good too. Thanks Mark for these awesome reviews! You've got me into a lot of great titles.

TF3 is the only one in the TF series that I really like. In fact I love this game, it's one of my favorite shmups ever. I once managed to beat it on Maniac without losing a single life, that's how addicted to it I used to be. =P
I LOVE THIS GAME! It's really hard, yet really satisfying, so you keep on coming back to it, especially since there's Maniac difficulty for the most skilled. (Check out this user, who plays it on Maniac and it's still "too easy" for him. watch?v=vLUnXOm6o18 ) Music, graphics, gameplay, all top-notch. The music is certainly some of the best on the Genesis.
i have a TF3 cart, but it doesn't work, i've opened it up and cleaned everything, it simply refuses to give me anything other than a black screen, i think the chip itself is busted
I'm still waiting for one of my old buddies to return my copy of Thunderforce 3. Lets see, it's been about 15 years now and I'm still waiting for it. I'm prob. not getting it back. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to hunt anoter copy down. Great review as always, Mark!!
This is one of my most favorite shmups, with loads of fun weapons and a good bit of reflexes and memorization needed to push through to the end. Fabulous level design throughout, with more than just scrolling from the right.
Stage Seiren's music is nothing less than perfect for the environment, and is one of my favorite VGM pieces. There isn't a BGM in this game I dislike. though. Tec(h)no Soft is up there with Konami and Square in my VGM-love list.
This truly is one of the best games ever released on the Megadrive Genesis and i was my first ever game for it. It is also the best version, i tried the snes version (thunder spirit) and its cack and the arcade version Thunderforce AC just doesnt play well. thank the lord for megadrive emulators.

Musha Aleste is the fourth game in the Aleste series which started on the MSX computer platform. The first Aleste (aka Power Strike for Sega Master System in the west) was the sequel to Zanac.
Another great review. I'm glad you're covering a lot of titles for the younger people to get into. In only one week, Classic Game Room HD has FIFTEEN EPISODES. Wow!
also this game has one of my favorite Genesis soundtracks EVER... music has been stuck in my head for days! Even caught myself humming it at work..

@Edgehead1132 If you have a game genie try plugging it through that, it has a pass through thing so if it's maybe a pirate/fake it could work.

naw, just kidding. :P
littleboyred1 1 year ago
@lfdgonzalez
The first 5 levels of TF4 were the best shooter of the 16 bit generation.
It was almost entirely downhill from there.
TF3 was the best to that point, but it went downhill a lot slower than its sequel.

for your info, i bought sega 16bit because i saw musha. mine is the jap version, they call it aleste.

do you agree that MUSHA/alest is one of the best SHMUPS ever made? also, since M.U.S.H.A is an acronym, does ALESTE stand for anything?

Musha Aleste is the fourth game in the Aleste series which started on the MSX computer platform. The first Aleste (aka Power Strike for Sega Master System in the west) was the sequel to Zanac.
Aleste (Power Strike) - MSX/SMS
Aleste Gaiden - MSX
Aleste 2 - MSX
Musha Aleste - MD/GEN
Super Aleste (Space Megaforce) - SFC/SNES
