Great video haha, british films like Kidulthood, Shank, Green Street and all those other typical cockney gangster/chav life movies don't interest me in any way what so ever. Thank god for british filmmakers like Danny Boyle and Shane Meadows.
@AJedProduction danny boyle did trainspotting, that's almost gangster. i don't think danny boyle and shane meadows are all that different to the directors being parodied here
@slampants Sure they've done their own take on those type of films as well, nothing wrong with that, it's not like every film that fits into the stereotype that's being parodied in this video are bad, there are some great films aswell, it's just there's too many of them and most don't ever try anything fresh or different.
@AJedProduction yeah i understand that and agree, there's too many bad films being influenced by the release of good films in all genres across the board. too many fatcats wanting to capitalise on trends and the success of others. kidulthood, shank and green street are all very different, green street being the worst, very hollywood-ised i just don't think you gave great examples i guess.
@slampants Trainspotting is "almost gangster"? In what way? There isn't a single gangster in that film. It's about unemployed drug addicts in Scotland, not gun-toting criminals in England.
@padraic2001eire begby could be seen as a gangster character, plus he's involved in a football firm. they all partake in organised crime as a group, ie stealing the t.v from the old peoples home, hence why i said "almost gangster" gave myself some leeway haha
Its pretty funny. But why waste time and resources making a parody when you could be addressing the very situation you mock, and make a film that you believe in yourselves? You clearly have access to everything you need to make a film, so why not be constructive?
@Splendidsketchshow "But why waste time and resources making a parody when you could be addressing the very situation you mock, and make a film that you believe in yourselves?"
Possibly because if one is not declarative and specifically brings attention to the issue, it may be ignored?
as a low budget UK filmmaker, trying to make original and interesting work but relying on Government funding, with one zombie and one social injustice film under my belt already, I heartily concur with this ironic and entirely spot on pisstake on the UKFC.
ha! brilliant! this'll make the mindless shills who used to work at the FC (defunct thank God) realise what uncreative - sorry, what NON-creative stooges they were, green lighting all that crap for years and burning through cash that would've otherwise been spent on something we actually care about and want to see. Oh...wait a second...no it won't. they'll keep doing it cause now they work at the BFI.
And when Brit film makers take on lumberjacks, desert towns, ski resorts, spaceships and aliens taking cities you'll be able to say what's that go to with being British ...
@JohnLogieBaird take it you've not seen sherlock then? and lock stock and snatch we're pretty ahead of the game. it's everyone thats done it since and is going to do it again that need to see this.
@MrFuzzyGreen That the only way to get UKFC funding is to make a "gritty" film based on social and racial stereotypes. He did that before it was the done thing to do, you could argue it is because of their success that they now want that style. And he's has now moved on to make some totally different films. Its the people who have kept making them and are going to keep making them that really need to see this.
@jacksimmons77 Well Cameron seems to think that all we need to do is 'make more successful films' We are certainly stuck in the loop of what little money there is going towards 'sure things' i.e plots that worked many times before. Confident quantities of cash in new ideas are what we need, badly. We will all delight and dance round the maypole when that happens. No gonna though is it.
