Once the Decepticons had been discovered, there was no need for the ruse any more, so they basically went "screw it" and ditched the ship. The biggest thing Hot Rod's shots accomplished was raising the alarm.

Things get cut from movies all the time, for time, cost, narrative flow (eg: it wasn't working or was unnecessary to the story), any or all of the above, or something else entirely (eg: contractual requirements). Any movie you can name has had stuff cut out of it, and Transformers was no exception. Sometimes the stuff is cut out late enough that it can be added back in later (eg: "Aliens" special edition), sometimes it get pulled out early enough that it's never even filmed or animated.

Versions of the script mention others (eg: Red Alert), and there would no doubt have been more than just the ones that we see, but there's nothing definitive to confirm.

Yeah mirage,smokescreen,redalert,tr­acks,sideswipe and trailbreaker were the other ones and aside from tracks and sideswipe the others were shown killed. I think theyw ere at the city cause think of it this way. when ultra magnus tells blurr he can have him alert the others there were only 3 others int he city at the time and the rest were outside of the city. I doubt ultramagnus had to alert 3 other autobots in that city and i think we missed grapple too he was onscreen fighting.

I might have phrased that poorly. We don't know for certain that it happened. We don't know why it wasn't in the movie, whether it was cut for time, they changed their minds, Hasbro nixed it or what. It was in a storyboard (a draft), and that's it.

In the first live-action film, Soundwave was to be a helicopter. Except that didn't happen. In TFA, Optimus' team was going to include Hot Shot and Red Alert. That didn't happen either.

You can decide for yourself, but you can't say for certain.

This was the best of transformers hands down. It's too bad the movie didn't do more to promote Ultra Magnus but I guess they didn't want him to overshadow hotrod/Rodimus. It's ironic, that in the end, Magnus turned out to be more of a fan favorite for the succession of Optimus than Rodimus... but I think that's partially due to the poor handling of Rodimus post movie.

A commentary note on the 20h Anniv DVD says that the Lookout Mountain in the Movie is in Tennesee but it's unclear if that's canon.

If you borrow from the Marvel UK comics, the Ark crashed in Oregon; in FFoD Trypticon walks from the Ark to attack Metroplex, who's stuck connected to Autobot City due to his transforming cog being damaged during the Movie, so it's conceivable it's in the vicinity of Oregon.

Hard to know for sure though.

No, versatility357 is right, they're not Mini-Cons. MiniCons are an entirely separate caste from Autobots and Decepticons and after modification are able to enhance other Transformers when they link. The Autobot Cassettes are just regular Autobots who happen to transform into cassettes. And technically they weren't 'built' to compete with Soundwave's cassettes, they always existed - like Grandslam and Raindance who contained ancient data on the Underbase on Cybertron.

Indeed, size is not the only factor; Mini-Con is not just an adjective.

They're not Mini-Cons any more than Armada Scavenger can be called a "Constructicon" because he's green and purple and turns into a bulldozer thing, or any more than G1 Cyclonus can be called a "Seeker" just because he's a Decepticon jet.

I mean, call them Mini-Cons if you like, that's your thing, but don't be surprised if ppl give you a look and go, "dude, wtf are you talking about?"

In FFoD Perceptor explained that the transformation cog got damaged during the Decepticon attack in the Movie. Springer and Arcee manually transformed to battlestation mode, but Metroplex himself couldn't assist in the fight (hopefully that part of him is now better shielded).

In reality, they probably had not yet figured out the relationship between Autobot City and Metroplex; they later depicted Metroplex as a subsection of the City (some of his components are obviously visible in the Movie).

Metroplex is separate from Autobot City and lies inside Autobot City. In the cartoon he's sometimes seen next to Autobot City.
