  • Karl Pilkington @2:35

  • Can you imagine what kind of world we would have today without religion, if we thanked ourselves for our accomplishments; if we believed in our own being rather than thinking that we are flawed? We are creatures with the gift of imagination. We are explorers who do our best when we are challenged; when we push aside our fears and look into the unknown. Look up into a clear night sky and you will see our future. The stars are ours. The universe awaits us.

  • OH FUCK HES DEAD!! I knew it was coming but i only found out from this video today and it comes as a huge shock still... thank you chris for opening my mind, and giving me many arguments that arnt to harsh to my christian friends. i honestly would take the cancer from you and have it kill me if i could, you are still needed on the earth and by all the people in the world whether they know it or not.. this is why i am glad to apparently be going to hell, i will be able to talk to this great man

  • Why is that someone that doesnt believe in God and has a british accent and gift of gab, or babble, causes atheists to think he is a genius?????

  • @jimu57 Because his reasoning is sound, and he displays a respect for everyone else's views. He neither denies nor acknowledges any God, he merely states that he feels that assuming that everything was made just for us is a bit arrogant.

  • @jimu57 yep, that's why. you've caught me... son do some learning. perhaps go to his wiki

  • Thank God for Hitchens

  • I'd not wanne debate with Christopher... you lose before you even draw your first breath!

  • @davidtheterminator No, he knows very little but thinks he does. Or did that is.

  • "I'm out of time ladies and gentlemen". Indeed you are!

  • I would love to see more Hitch videos on your channel. You won a subscriber today.

  • "More humble and I think truer..."

    -Charles Darwin

  • "'Seek and ye shall find' is a sinister injunction." Wow. It is isn't it. It is.

  • dat mind

  • Hitchens is all about words and the ideas these describe. I could have done without the music myself.....

  • Fantastic video. Thank you.

  • It's not wrong to mourn him, I think. I don't begrudge that of anybody. But every time my mind tries to go in that direction I get sidetracked. "Aren't we lucky though?" I find myself asking. "Aren't we so incredibly fortunate... that he lived at all? And that his work is still with us. Still available for us to appreciate and to enrich ourselves with?"

  • I dunno why but I find this speech so inspiring, even though it's essentially just him telling us how insignificant we really are. Wish I had known about him sooner, and not a week after his death.

  • @dylansfg I've played this so many times

  • @iliveon me too

  • I regret having the chance to attend one of his lectures and passed it up. I was banking on doing it this year.

  • We need to have a person,on this planet whose views RELIGION/CULTURE'S/WAY OF PEOPLE'S LIVES, AROUND OUR HUMAN GLOBE- DIFFERENT!!!-AS WE ARE ALL NOT LIKE SHEEP!!! FOLLOWING ONE ANOTHER!!!

ITS THE CULTURED BRAIN IN PROGRESS!!!!!

CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS -BLESS HIS SOUL -BROUGHT SIGNIFICANCE TO HUMAN BEING'S!!!-RELGION IS FOOD FOR THE SOUL ONLY AND NOT DAY TO DAY LIFE.

    Mrs.P.M.A.JUDGE.

  • Chris Hitchens made a deathbed

conversion (YouTube); Is that a topic of

interest to anyone in the atheist community?

  • @theetrue If true, that would be awesome, but the link as well as the humility of a christian seems to be lacking in your comment.

  • @bomotor

Oh, I think it was the Christian Humility class I was expelled from for

God knows; I'm so sorry, is that more like it? and maybe you can

find someone to help you learn how to use a search engine, but I

kind of doubt it because if you really wanted to know you would by now.

    Have a wonderful day <3

  • @theetrue I did google it b4 i replied...

  • @bomotor heres the undeniable "true"

    /watch?v=q4cPe_YS8i8

  • could not agree more that even the scientist should also relax about the big band theory. Dont get me wrong i'm a fact & science man - but I've also come to learn that once you've fully absolutely believe one thing your wrong.

  • Great video, beautful mind. Video is enhanced infinitely by the fact that the background song is from LOST. Rest in Peace Hitch.

  • Callum, I discovered your channel because of the Carl Sagan tribute series, and now I see this. My respect for you has doubled.

  • This deserves a nobel prize of awesome. Fav'd. Might sub.

  • I met him at a debate he had with my cousin in Boston almost two years ago. I had just become an athiest at the time and had started to fall in love with all of Sagan's work. I don't remember exactly what he said to me, but I remember him being very kind and quite funny. He had this feeling of calmness around him. To me, it is one of the highlights of my life, He was a great man, a great person, and I feel honored to have met him.

  • @talset2480 Lucky bastard :P

  • I miss Christopher. I wish I could find more tributes, because I can't get enough. :(

  • You must do Richard Feyman and Richard Dawkins

  • Christopher Hitchens is such a great speaker

  • I´ve never cried of anyones death who I never knew, except this amazing man. Cried many times in many days. Not sure why, but there´s just something about this dude...

  • @pololopo23 I'm there with you my friend

  • @pololopo23 Me too. He will be missed.

  • @pololopo23 I still do.

  • @pololopo23 The man affected and inspired many people. I cried in exactly the same way. It's hard to believe he has gone. Death feels such a waste but then he wouldn't be sentimental and we should congratulate him on being happy having lived life to the full and pushing at every boundary, he loved and was loved, what more could you want.

  • @pololopo23 smh gay

  • @golbert1993 wHAT´S SMH?

  • @pololopo23 ..Me too,..I just love his mind, humanity is not aware of it's loss,he truly was one of the kind,i mourn all of the writings and words we will never hear or read with him gone

  • stunning

  • Excellent.

  • This is beautiful.

  • Yet another fantastic video Callum, Keep them coming :)

  • The first song is from the show Lost.

  • Tremendous job on this video. What a fitting tribute to such a great man. I'll look forward to more of your videos!

  • this music is in a film, i'll remember which soon, but it's bugging me... any help?

  • @rwtj01 got it, lost. and just noticed it's in uploader coments. well, only a minute, not to dumb. LOVE the video mate. I hoped to oneday have a chance to meet Hitchens. He'll be sadly missed, but his work and words will persist. thanks for the video

  • I'm so happy to see this. Your Carl Sagan Tribute Series was like, life changing. I'm glad to see you're starting a new project. No one's better suited to it than you.

  • Beautifully, devastatingly, brilliantly said. We miss you already, Christopher.

  • Thanks very much for the upload!

  • Five people need to get Hitch-Slapped.

  • Again, go Hitch. And for people to say that he somehow lost this debate to WLC. Unreal.

I've seen the entire debate. Craig seemed undaunted by CH's points and indeed said some clever things according to his own logic. Yet it's all just too easy (and trite) to thrive in a cul de sac when you're going in circles. And yeah, the theists might say that Hitchens did the same. But whatever man.

  • LOST music and Hitchens = win. Pure win.

  • Beautiful.

  • Congratulations. Any chance to post subtitles for those like me who don't understand english 100%?

  • I had hoped he would make it :( *sigh*

    Great work as allways callumCGLP!

  • Thank you for this! Very well done. I would encourage you to do more videos like this with Hitchens.

  • A+. Will watch again.

  • Should be played at every school.

  • A++++

  • We hardly know what we don't know.

  • I'm probably still an agnostic/deist. 7 years of Catholic school and decent Catholic parents will do that to you. I never found a real reason to dislike that religion based on the people I knew.

But I know what is rational and logical, and Hitchens spells it out. Can't deny that. Respect for him. It's just hard for me to let go completely of that tradition I grew up with.

  • @mflowah Hi, I'd recommend reading God Is Not Great and then The Selfish Gene. Freedom guaranteed.

  • @VortexCZ

    Freedom guaranteed, absolutely,

until the day you die, just ask Chris.

  • @theetrue Christopher, FTFY

  • @VortexCZ

Spell that out so everyone can see your message.

  • @mflowah Why not keep the tradition as a tradition and appreciate it as a social function, if you like, and also think freely and logically, when it comes to understand the world? I think it's possible to do both, if you are not bound to take the traditional sayings as truth.

  • @mflowah You´re already at the point where if you keep watching/reading more about these type of videos/books, in one year you will say that you´re atheist or an anti-theist. I´m quite certain of this.

  • @mflowah I'd just like to point out that I think you're confused by what an agnostic is.

  • @Task5003 nope.

  • @mflowah Because most atheists are agnostic atheist; it's a common misconception that agnosticism is sort of 'weak atheism'. Agnosticism are two answers to completely different questions: a person is either an agnostic theist (they think God exists but they're not sure), a gnostic theist (think God exists and say they know for sure), an agnostic atheist (doesn't believe in God but say he's 100% sure or a gnostic atheist (doesn't believe in God and says they're 100% sure).

  • @Task5003

    Yes. I know all that.

  • @mflowah My point was that a person is either a theist or atheist, agnosticism and gnosticism mean how certain a person is in their belief and theism and atheist mean if they believe a God exists.

  • @mflowah And this is exactly the danger he is trying to warn you of. You might not have realized it yet, but life is not fair. We humans have become used to thinking life should be fair because of the system we set up against the universe. Life is not fair, life doesn't care about us, we almost went extint more than once and people still have the audacity to think this was all made for use. Grow up and face reality, thinking like this will eventually lead to our destruction.

  • @nuckable ehrm... accepting that there is no creator, doesn't mean we can't be civilised. civil, as opposed to natural - if you will.

  • @bomotor Maybe I read a little too much into what mflowah said, but the point Christopher is trying to make is that, thinking that "everything was made with us in mind (or for us)" is not a healthy thought. It poisons our thoughts because this kind of thinking does not allow for global catastrophies like the climate change we are facing now.

There would be much greater dangers we should be protecting ourselves (as a species) against, but instead we wage stupid time/wealth consuming wars

  • @nuckable What the hell are you talking about?

  • @mflowah I gave an answer to bomotor that should apply to yours as well (just above yours).

  • @mflowah the venom takes time to get out of the system.

  • @mflowah

Agreed... culture and tradition provide a weird sense of pattern, a thoughtless, sometimes irrational, yet comforting pattern.

  • @mflowah Forgive me but i'm confused as to what it is that your saying. Your "probably" an agnostic/deist. so you do believe in a god of sorts yet you "probably" state that you are an agnostic? To me that sounds like a contradiction of stances. Agnostics are not deists by definition and are somewhat at odds with each other. Your statement about having a hard time letting go of tradition is reasonable or maybe more so understandable but does that mean your tradition is your basis for belief?

  • Your videos are great, keep it up. Tthese ideas must be reiterated in as many ways as they can.

  • Oh, Just a little more props to the editing...

    Music was perfect

    Sound level balance was perfect

    Rythm was perfect

    The speech left me speechless

Images were perfectly chosen and displayed

    Awesome job.

  • What a speech,

    What a man ,

    Modern society will miss him.

    Cheers to you M. Hitchens.

(Great video, great editing, thank you for it)

  • What. A. BAMF.

  • God and Jesus are the ones who dislike this video

  • @vazeh lolololololol

  • @vazeh dude...you just made me spit out my coffee...too funny!

  • @vazeh and the holy spirit now I guess.

He took a while to find it thorugh all the crap on youtube.

  • @vazeh god , jesus and now even the holy spirit! LOL LOL LOL

  • @vazeh and now the holy ghost

  • @vazeh and the holy spirit, which should count as one dislike

  • @vazeh God and Jesus are fictional characters. How is any adult unaware of this is simple, obvious truth?

  • @Myklanjlo they always say bible scholars think that Jesus is real based on the gospels... and based on some stupid people who didn't live during his supposed time. I think those bible scholars are christians. And I think the gospel was written once, copied and added, 3 more times. I think it is totally fiction. It shows all the marks of a fiction. And all of the signs of a heroic mythic character. Even the story is written as a fiction, with quotes and all, interesting events, no 12-30y.o.

  • @vazeh good! that's a big relief, I thought for a second someone real disliked it

  • Someone tell me where is the active forum of atheist because i have no friend because I'm atheist : )

  • @michaelcastaneda1988 r/atheism on Reddit.com. Over 300 000 people there. Go say hi :)

  • This must be the best response to the fine tuning argument I´ve ever heard. After this no one should have to hear any of that fine tuning babbling again. But, how can you get religious people to understand the utter beauty and logic of this response, might still remain as one of the great mysteries of our universe. My man, Hitch!

  • Great work, callumCGLP.

  • I wonder what it is like to die without being able to see any plausible result of something one has fought so much for and dedicated the most of one's awaking hours.

  • Epic.

  • Sensational....

  • Transcript!!! Thanks!

  • He totally fucked Craig's fine tuning bullshit into oblivion.

    What a legend. Marvellous thinker.

  • That was stunning! Thank you so much for putting it together!

  • The music was so unnecessary.

  • 4th time through.

  • LOVED IT!

  • Great video! I love this speech. He was just so incredible. True genius of english language.

  • @TowerofMrPower Awww, did he make you question your delusion of your magical sky daddy?

  • Christopher Hitchens was God's gift to mankind!

  • @jakegold1472 Can't tell if trolling or just a complete idiot.

  • Wow. I'm going to miss him! That is an extraordinary person!

  • Keep these going. Your doing great things!

  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • we want subtitles in Polish - please... we need it in this biggot country !

  • He was a titan of our age. An incredible master of rhetoric and wit.

  • I'm continually taken aback at the breadth and depth of Hitchens' reading. He may not have been a scientist, but he was a great ally to science and clearly understood its history and principles.

  • The Universe may be too vast to understand, but I don't need to discover it all to know that Christopher Hitchens was the greatest voice of reason its ever had. I miss this man more than I knew was possible to miss a person I've never met.

  • @TowerofMrPower

What an incredible amount of bollocks you've just spouted.

  • Thank you for this sir.

  • This music was making me really emotional. Then I realized it's because it's from LOST.

  • Fantastic tribute. Thank you.

  • very nice

  • Beautiful tribute!

  • And the music... I recognize it as the end theme from "LOST" when Jack Shepherd died. I cried when that fictional character died. I cried when the Hitch died. A touching video in his honor.

  • A great man, someone who knew bullshit when he heard it, and wasn't afraid to call it so.

  • A fighter, to the last. The world is a better place for his existence, brief as it was, in the billions of years past and the billions more to come.

  • My mourning continues, thank you for this beautiful piece :).

  • Thank you for making this wonderful video.

    He was very loved.

  • Awesome video

  • AMAZING video

  • Another fantastic video by callum, keep up the great work dude. Hitch will be missed.

  • A moving tribute, he was truly a great mind.

  • This is absolutely beautiful. I would expect nothing less from you. Thank you for this.

  • In the words of Sick Boy: "beautifully fucking illustrated"

  • Sir. This was brilliant! Thank you.

I am grateful to have lived in the same time as Christopher Hitchens.

It is also wonderful that he lived in an age where technology can preserve such greatness with clarity for generations to come.

As long as humans can muster words, quotes from Christopher Hitchens will always be in the conversation.

  • CallumCGLP - Your Sagan tributes make me unbelievably happy when I see them in my sub box....But seeing a Hitchens video almost made me loose my mind. Hitchens is a great person to focus a new tribute series towards. I hope this is your intention anyways.

  • Excellent video. Hitch was awesome.

  • 5:10 - 5:31

The vikings are chasing skoll away. I remember that show. Was it "Curiosity"?

  • @Zentz29 Yes, it is Curiosity

  • @roont Yeah, I looked it up right after I posted my comments. Thanks anyway though! =D

  • Beautiful. Thanks for this.

  • Great video. He will be missed:-(

  • Comment removed

  • What an awesome intellect! Thank you!

  • What debate is this from? I want the voice track for a project

  • @TowerofMrPower If that's what you know about Hitchens, you know nothing. Period.

  • You've outdone yourself! IMHO this is your best work.

  • Callum, I absolutely love your work, and I think you did the World a great favour with your tributes to Sagan (and now Hitchens). I have copied the sound track onto a CD to listen to in the car, and I have made use of that privilege several times.

However, should you continue the Hitchens tributes, I would suggest less spoken word. The video is very informative and all, but it's a little too much information for a 10 minute video. Some artificial breaks might help.? Just my two cents. <3

  • @cutthroooat Thank you for the feedback! I guess using someone other than Carl in a video is kind of like learning to play a new instrument. Evidently a different pace is required for the tone of each narrator. I hope I can do better in the future.

  • @callumCGLP I thought you did an absolutely brilliant job, ... I have shared it with several friends.

  • @callumCGLP in my opinion, it was absolutely great. The choice of videos, the amount of words (representative of Hitch), and, I should single out, the ending.

  • @callumCGLP

While I agree that more Hitchens would be great, I don't think it's too much information as is. Strangely enough, the continuous rant seems to fit the rather mellow music quite well. But I can see how it wouldn't always work...

  • @callumCGLP You can't fit enough information in 10 minutes when it comes to Hitch. I feel it delivers the urgency it deserves. It Hitch's style.

Thanks for this tribute Callum. My hats off.

  • @callumCGLP I think you did an amazing job , just incredible, i think you got everything right, the pace, the imagery and his speech, he would have been very honoured to have this as a tribute and you should feel very proud...thank you

  • @callumCGLP Just to offer a different opinion, I love the words and the video itself is more of an enhancement to the man. It's like re-experiencing some of his speeches in a new way. I wouldn't change a thing except perhaps to cut back to Hitch a tad more often. That's just my opinion however.

  • @callumCGLP i had tears in my eyes when i heard of his death, this man was a hero but he will always live through his debates and youtube, even humans living hundreds and thousands of years from now will be enlightened by listening to hitchens, what a great man, hitchens will always be here amongst us
