I've been to Le Mans 24hr numerous times and the Vette is the most successful car in it's class and its the best sounding car there too. Anyone who's been will know what I'm talking about. Complaining about a leaf spring still misses the point. They refer to them in plural in the rear suspension. There is ONE transverse leaf spring. It is not a live rear axle like a truck or a "lorry". The suspension is modern double wishbone independent suspension at all four corners. The TRANSVERSE leaf spring takes the place of a coil spring and is a modern composite leafspring not some old thing from the 19th century. These guys at Top Gear are ignorant when they talk about it.
One thing that is inexcusable with the corvette though is the crappy interior. Actually, it doesn't have to be BMW and Mercedes level but it should be better than what you find in a Chevy Cavalier (and it is only marginally better than that). Also, the stock seats in the corvette are crap and every single review I've seen complains about the corvette seats. Really? In a car designed to do 1G in the turns you put in seats that wont' hold you in place? Upgrade the interior and seats Chevy.
@jkeelsnc leather interior, sports seats, and other luxuries are options on the Corvette. Shows like Top Gear only show it bare bones without mentioning the options sheet.

I don't expect it to be like a Mercedes inside. But as expensive as a corvette still is it should proper seats that will hold you at 1G like a real sports car seat does (as in good side bolsters, firm padding, and good back support). Also at such a price the interior plastics, etc should be better.
Although the corvette is not one of my favorite cars I can honestly say that Top Gear lies about the suspension. Yes it does have composite transverse leaf springs front and rear but they imply that the car has solid truck axles front and rear which is the biggest bunch of bogus crap. The corvette has Independent double wish bone suspension front and back that is tuned for good handling. It is a modern suspension also tied to an extremely stiff chassis. Top Gear misrepresents the info.

ONE.. and it goes accross the car left to right, pinned solid in the middle with the ends attached to the suspension, it allows for a very compact setup. The engine puts out plenty of horsepower, but the design and longevity of the engine is short term. 12,000 miles and the engine is knocking and smoking. Yes, it looks pretty, but thats about all you get. Laughable!

Top Gear is extremely biased, and the hosts don't know shit about cars. The "leaf springs" on the Corvette are in fact NOTHING like traditional leaf springs. Corvettes have double wishbone suspension, and the springs are "transverse leaf springs" made of fiberglass. There are only two springs in the car: one for the front, and one for the rear.This actually is an ingenious design, because it reduces unsprung weight (compared to coil springs), and this IMPROVES cornering. Hence the fast lap time.

They love to mention the leaf springs in the back.. except its a LEAF.. ONE.. and it goes accross the car left to right, pinned solid in the middle with the ends attached to the suspension, it allows for a very compact setup. The Brits love to bash American cars..funny I will admit the interior is SHIT on this model. The newer cars are better though.

The car is wider than the mobile homes americans live in, but they can not fit through the driver's door. The engine puts out plenty of horsepower, but the design and longevity of the engine is short term. 12,000 miles and the engine is knocking and smoking. The double wishbone coilover setup first appeared in 1935, and the MacPherson strut(used by the likes of Porsche and BMW)is from 1949, and the Chapman strut is from 1957. As you can see, even the most recent coilover setup is still six years older than the 'Vette's.

Top Gear is extremely biased, and the hosts don't know shit about cars. The "leaf springs" on the Corvette are in fact NOTHING like traditional leaf springs. Corvettes have double wishbone suspension, and the springs are "transverse leaf springs" made of fiberglass. There are only two springs in the car: one for the front, and one for the rear.This actually is an ingenious design, because it reduces unsprung weight (compared to coil springs), and this IMPROVES cornering. Hence the fast lap time.
