NAT TYPE 3 = limited connection/ connection questioned by router

NAT TYPE 2 = full/ UNquestioned connection

NAT TYPE 1 = Direct connection(the only way to get this is to connect an Ethernet cable directly to your MODEM.

for people who have got nat3 even when using your modems its a problem with your modem your probably double firewalled or your modem has currently Napt enabled which when connected to a router causes issues like hosting in games : eg. COD i was using a speedstream 5200 E242 and found out it was the cause of nat 3 accedently bricked it got a new one sent by mail the 4200 and unlocked it now if i use the modem i get nat 1 ---router nat 2 pm me if you have these modems!!

Upnp is enabled on my router, and my PS3 sees NAT2 and Upnp. I don't really know what to suggest for those of your who enable upnp on your router, but the PS3 doesn't see it. You could try the obvious - power off the router and try again, or hard reset the router (restore router back to factory settings).

And then a few months later I spend bloody ages trying to set up a wireless network eventually realising the ps3 needs a static IP. File sharing now works but hey presto! On my linksys router to get Available for UPnP you have to have Multicast Pass Through Enabled. It will be under filters on a linksys router.

This isn't regarding NAT3 but I've noticed that on my PS3 it says the same thing. I run a linksys AG300 DSL router with UPnP switched on. I just had a quick look in my port forward table and the PS3 has been adding ports so even though it says "not available" it still seems to work.....strange huh!

Simple, you have to enable port forwarding and forward UDP ports 3478 to 3658 for the IP of your playstation. You dont have to have a static IP. You can allow DHCP to automatically address. Then do to audio settings and assign your input device. GOOD LUCK.
