Do these things actually keep your hair dry or what? I saw someone take one off after swimming and their hair was wet and I was like what's the point of wearing one if your hair will just get wet anyways and why not just tie your hair back you know?

the swim cap keeps your hair dry. The person probably wetted their hair beforehand, as it has been rumored to be easier to put on. Also, a swim cap creates less friction while swimming in the water. thus, less energy will be used while swimming faster.

I think its something to do with aerodynamics or should i say hydrodynamics lol. I think the lighter and smoother u are, the faster u will swim

It doesn't keep your hair completely dry but it definitely helps. Also a lot of people wet their swimming caps to make it easier to put on, so when you see wet hair it might not always be from swimming pool water. It also reduces drag and doesn't come out like a ponytail does (especially for short hair).
