Super overkill. Not smart at all. You should follow state laws to preserve for the next generation to enjoy. I love eating crappie, but I would not catch that many. Very disappointed. Thumbs down for overkill
senseless careless and no respect for wildlife! what the hell were you thinking? not only did you keep way to many for any reason you can offer, they were mostly dinks! im talking 90% of those were small! not cool dude!
The fact that they could pull out 214 total crappie in one trip makes a point that it could be overpopulated....hell I still can't catch one crappie from shore. I guess I'm not doing it right. Regardless, you should always follow state limit and possession laws when out on the water. In my state this would mean that 10.7 people would have to be in the boat to keep all these. Also the sizes? Barely bigger than the coffee cup? Forget about it, illegal dumbass catch. Arrest/fine this guy.
@dennismiller2fishon I hope they did too.... in a situation like that, My guess they sold over half of those fish! Peolpe will buy them by the dozen or (lbs) in the south! Thats GOOD EATN'N!
and even possibly jail time! so next time anyone thinks about poaching fish, think about the consequences. and think about others to. you pretty much ruined that area for fishing for at least 5 years
umm "nemansMQ" there is a thing as a daily limit. its 25 fish and your possesion limit is only twice that per person they were over twice their limit which is somewhere around a 400-600$ fine and your fishing privleages revoked for a minimum of two years and confiscation of boat and fishing gear
are you stupid you ruind your lake and took down a lot of small fish i would out this on youtube i would be assamed ruining a good population and taking all of those fish
if he caught that many, first he wasnt by himself, pronbably 2-3 people, so say 3 peolpe @ 25 a piece is 75. With a possesion limit of like 750 between the three of them (Possesion limit includes fish in your freezer, alive in a tank or that you catch and keep while possessing the same species at another location) if they were all 6-10 inch crappie then they had like 125-150 there MAX, count them, and assume the under lying amount, this lake is Big and is over populated, they HELPED the lake.
come on dude.. take home what you can eat in one meal. release the rest. thats my personal philosophy. If i go fishing, and catch 30 bluegill, i only keep 10, release the rest. I think its a good policy
In my area Crappie has to be over 9inches and you can only keep 25. If you have over 25 its a huge fine. Those were all 4-7 inches. Ohh and I bet you haved fun cleaning all those.
it depends how many people they were fishing with and if they even have a limit... i know around here up until the past 2 years there was no limit on crappie.... so tubers dont judge!!!
were i'm from "MO" are lim. is 30 per person. We eat them and some times if we have to much we have a block fish fry. They are mostly white crappie, they are over taking some ponds.
@silewski11 In some places I would agree..but where I grew up in the south there are some waters that a not known to much public and only a hand full of fisherman fish these water.. in situation like that small waters can become over populated by the one spieces in this case Crappie.. when they bite like bluegill theres tons of them !! That harvest is needed!
yes, if you need them to be food, they are food. but you dont think taking that many fish is a LITTLE much??? lol..... you wonder why fish populations are falling almost all over the planet... people take, take, take and take some more.
Crappie populate this lake like hybrid bluegill do most lakes. If you don't thin them out, they are ALL small. We've been fishing in this place more than 20 years and we've been taking.. we've even had a wildlife biologist say "thanks" while he was out surveying the lake.
well then that makes alot more sense then i first thought... but still, must be a damn small pond/lake... still think its taking to much, im sure there is a better way to help the fish there other then just killing. btw, has your massive thinning over the last 20years ever yeilded a larger fish out of there?
@dedfishdotcom If crappie populations are over crowded to the point of "stunting", than there are other issues with that body of water beyond what excess removal can solve.
.....and selectively fishing the small fish out can only do so much to reduce densities and competition... and is still a waste no matter how you spin it.
@eeeen321 Mature crappies (2 to 6 years old) eat their own young, causing cycles of severe population decline. When few mature crappies populate the lakes, most of the young fish survive and the population thrives for the next few years. In small or overcrowded lakes crappies experience stunted growth. Many biologists support an unlimited bag limit for crappies to promote a healthy fish population.
@dedfishdotcom dont listen to the wanna be living off his mommy and daddys paycheck. stating that your to poor to buy food because you kept all those crappie is 100% ignorance. why but it when u can have fun catching it/hunting it. some people in this world shouldve never been here. smh..
when is the best time for crappie when they spawn and get real big?nice boatload of crappies!in oregon no size limit required in a =ny place!you can keep as many you want!
Usually Late-March until the end of April is great for crappie - but it depends on the temperature.. duration of the temperature, precipitation and everything. Also, the end of September through the end of October (even later actually, if you can stand the cold) is great also.
tht is good r thining out the pop. but keep the bigger ones. thts wat i do with blue gill

Even when put in the fridge (Which I dont think you can fit) they spoil fast. Unless you're planning to sell them, not a smart move there.

he's right.. too many of one species of fish will cause a "stunted" or undersized population, which isn't healthy for any lake..

Not at this particular lake, no. There is a size limit/requirement on catfish and bass only.
We've been fishing this lake for 20-25 years now and catching thousands of crappie each year. It doesn't seem to even make a dent in the population.
dedfishdotcom 5 years ago
