Pee-Wee Herman said Heard Any Good Jokes Lately in reference to being the butt of recent jokes after his arrest for indecent exposure. Paul Reubens was arrested for indecent exposure on July 26, 1991. He appeared on the MTV music video awards saying Heard any Good Jokes Lately on September 5, 1991.

I read somewhere that he was scared to death before this appearance; it was his first time "back" as Pee-wee and he didn't know how the audience would react. I read that he was actually praying backstage. It's too bad the whole clip isn't here because the applause was deafening and like @strikerk said, he was shocked and just stood there, taking it in. It was extremely moving.

@T97Frida: I couldn't have said it better. I was never a fan of his show; I don't think I ever saw 10 seconds of it. His Pee-Wee character annoys the living heck out of me. But you're right; the guy has a spine like a steel beam, and as a person, I give him all the respect in the world.

Too bad this doesn't have the entire video. Everyone starts clapping for Paul and he stands there looking so appreciative as they get up into a standing ovation. He can't say a thing. He just stands there soaking it in and it's like he's about to cry or something. ; ; He didn't deserve the way they took away his show, and ruined his career when he hurt nobody. Nobody at all~! What the crowd did for him at the MTV awards was so awesome, supporting him like that. I love you Pee-Wee!

Baseless accusations. Nothing came of it. People are at the mercy of being thrown into court for absolutely anything, at any time. Most of the time, cases get thrown out. In the case of a celebrity, before it even gets to that stage, it becomes media news. The media sees you as possibly guilty until proven innocent. That's how it works. It was the same for MJ, the same for many famous but 'weird' people. Especially when these people have good hearts. They're easy to victimize.

@strikerk True I remember being devastated as a child when he could no longer play Pee Wee and even then I knew he never hurt anyone. But I heard that Paul had been burned out for quite some time of playing Pee Wee before the incident and needed a way out to do other things; although not the way out he got which left him depressed. But he needed a long well deserved break from Pee Wee and an opportunity to do other things because he is very talented. Paul Reubens thanks 4 PeeWee!

it hurts and it´s sad he had to pull this off cause of the frikken tabloids gnaa it´s f**** up what he´s been through, all the embarrassment for something private and god knows nothing bad. they may have not fully destroyed his career (talking bout his comeback) but enough done to destroy a human´s pride. it´s not fair.
