I am not really anti death penalty but I have done some looking into it. One thing I have found to be true is that on a national average, states with the Death Penalty have a higher murder rate than states that don't. But one thing to consider, Four states that do have the death penalty (texas, florida, ohio, and pennsyvania) have very large populations. The state of New York is the most populace state and still has a larger than average murder rate.

Life imprisonment is as effective a deterrent as the death penalty. Changing from Life imprisonment to Death Penalty won't change things, seeing as how in most cases the death penalty isn't used. It's only in the more severe cases.
The best deterrent is doing your best to make sure the murderers are caught and convicted at a good rate.

Well to be honest i find death penalty to be better than the current "life sentence" which here in finland is between 10 and 20 years but usually under 15 years. Yesterday a guy who had just been released from jail after 15 years of his "life" sentence butchered three people because of a minor disagreement. Therefore killing off those useless criminal cunts would decrease the amount of murders here.

Since the DP costs SO much more than LWOP, many states are running on so tight of budgets that they actually have NO CHOICE but to release a TON of their inmates early. In Texas, prisoners only serve 30% of their terms, and Florida released 3,000 inmates early because of lack of funds. Also worth mentioning is the DP kills some INNOCENT people! So I'm TOTALLY against it 100%.

People really need to start understanding that "common sense" is not a very good guide for understanding anything, much less a guide to finding truth.
Common sense is a set of mental "rules of thumb" that we use for common everyday tasks so we don't have to critically examine everything in mundane day-to-day tasks. Trying to superimpose such flawed rulesets unto a complex topic like say - relativistic physics - meets with utter distasterous results.
NOT everything in the world is intuitive...

When someone commits murder they intend to NOT GET CAUGHT!
Life imprisonment is as effective a deterrent as the death penalty. Changing from Life imprisonment to Death Penalty won't change things, seeing as how in most cases the death penalty isn't used. It's only in the more severe cases.
The best deterrent is doing your best to make sure the murderers are caught and convicted at a good rate.
In my opinion, death is too nice for a murderer.

I believe it was in the 80s when I 1st discovered studies that demonstrated that the death penalty DOES NOT have a deterrent affect on murder rates.
You are correct dprjones, and there is no excuse for people in this day, especially with the Internet at their fingertips, to be proclaiming such ignorance!
When I see this type of thing, and I see it all the time, I soon find that they are simply in denial! They believe what they do, simply bcuz they want to...period!

Good video. Although, just for intellectual honesty, it is possible that states that have a higher murder rate and also have a higher death penalty, would have an even higher murder rate without the death penalty. Although I doubt it as many studies have already shown in the past that the death penalty does not act as a deterrent against murder.

What i find to be horrifying is that she states the death penalty to be a just good when we had found totally innocent people to be on death row. I believe that some people commit crimes so horrible that they deserve to die for them but if one person is found to be innocent on death row then the whole system needs to be removed.

In her defense she may have meant that within the same state the homicide rate is lower with death penalty than it would be without it, which may very well be true, but difficult to prove.

As a person who's spent a lot of time in jails and institutions I have to say I came out of that period in my life much favoring the death penalty. Ive known a lot of murderers and Ive known people who have gotten the death penalty. Men who have committed unspeakable brutal acts. Ive known them and gotten to know them personally. There was left little doubt in my mind, in every case, these men deserved to die, and, I was glad when I learned they would. Trust me, it DOES set an example.

Well to be honest i find death penalty to be better than the current "life sentence" which here in finland is between 10 and 20 years but usually under 15 years. Yesterday a guy who had just been released from jail after 15 years of his "life" sentence butchered three people because of a minor disagreement. Therefore killing off those useless criminal cunts would decrease the amount of murders here.

@HansMoleman112 Actually, it would have the opposite effect, they'd be let out of jail at an even MORE alarming rate. Since the DP costs SO much more than LWOP, many states are running on so tight of budgets that they actually have NO CHOICE but to release a TON of their inmates early. In Texas, prisoners only serve 30% of their terms, and Florida released 3,000 inmates early because of lack of funds. Also worth mentioning is the DP kills some INNOCENT people! So I'm TOTALLY against it 100%.
