Honestly, I like Memoirs for the same way the critics did. It's a extremely interesting album and she had a mature feel to it...though some songs were just silly...but that's Mariah...
Personally, Butterfly is like her magnum opus. Like you could throw some other top-knotch Mariah R&B tracks onto Butterfly (like Vanishing) and Butterfly would be EPIC.
Rainbow is good and I know she must've had a blast. The Heartbreaker thing was funny...the remix video was a little OTT though...

I think the chorus of the impossible was sticking to the whole candy bling feeling. I think shes trying to go for a young 'ghetto' girl type feel. Its cute, I mean we all know she can go deep, and I mean DEEP. Think of petals, the roof. Shes just having fun :)

I think thats why its her best reviewed album of this decade..

It's the only Mariah album of which i don't 'love' any tracks. There mostly all forgettable. I do really like obsessed but thats really all i REALLY like. Lyrically and especially production wise it's so far under whats she's really capable of it's really quite disappointing.

Musically (in terms of the catchiness of the songs) I think TEOM was one of her best. Also in terms of vocal range, it was a step up from her previous albums.
Really? Honestly i thought TEOM had alot of filler tracks like your girl and to the floor. And vocally theres way too much pro tooling goin on on tracks like your girl and mine again for my liking. But circles and joyride are in my top 20 all time fav mc tracks so it's not all bad
I didn't think there was really that much protooling going on since she did the most pivotal songs on the album live like WBT, it's Like That, and FLAB (some of the high notes). She even did a snippet of Your Girl live on tour and it sounded great. You have to admit she was in good voice.
@crazy2hazy I like some of the vocals on TEOM. Joyride is my favorite. Her voice seems a lot more untouched and raw on it and theres not so much layering going on. Just because she sang them live doesn't necessarily mean she didn't pro tool the studio vocals. We all know Mariah is her own biggest critic and a perfectionist. The MSG 95' concert being dubbed for no reason at all is evidence of that.
@welshangel13 I still don't think TEOM was protooled as much as people think, because she was in great voice, better than she had been in years. the MSG concert in 95 also wasn't as dubbed as people think because I heard the undubbed version of MIH and it was exactly the same. All concerts have to be dubbed to some extent because of the noise the crowd makes.
@crazy2hazy I know the MSG wasn't dubbed to the extent that the vocals were all completely different but they were cleaned up a lot. And not all concerts need to be dubbed. The vocals are recorded/taken directly from the microphone feed. How do you explain concerts that have been directly aired live to tv...Justin's Futuresex/lovesounds concert for instance.
@welshangel13 For a singer like her and with the type of production for that concert, I think it was necessary to dub to some extent. The main point is her voice, and they did have to clean it up to showcase her voice. Other artists choose not to dub concerts because the voice is not the main attraction, as in Justin's case.
If Mariah really wanted all her televised concert performances to be flawless, don't you think she would have dubbed everything she did to match up to the standards of the Daydream/Music Box Era. The fact that she doesn't sound absolutely perfect in those other eras proves that the dubbing was kept to a minimum, and the vocals were barely enhanced.
I'm actually suprised Sony will be realeasing this song on the new greatest hits or very best of Mariah or whatever there calling it cd. Suprised in a good way though.
Make It Happen's vocals from the audience recording and those from the dvd are actually as different as every other song from the concert, that is to say - completely. And it's just not true that all concerts need dubbed... plenty of DVDs of concerts (including Mariah's e.g. Around The World) can attest to that...
Maybe you're thinking of Proctors, that was two nights, not MSG. None of the vocals in any of the versions from the camcorder footage match any of the vocals from the DVD :-/

I like the lyrics and on paper it's a well written song but it has no melody and it's so monotone. Really bores me.

Don't know about the albums, she said she was going to do a xmas song with her mother but i doubt she'd do another complete album. I'm more excited about her writing for Patti's new album. Mariah has no choice but to write mature lyrics, i hardly doubt Patti is going to want to be singing stuff like up out my face boy...haha

@welshangel13 it's a wrap, angels cry, H.A.T.E.U., Inseperable, the Impossible, Languishing all have "mature" lyrics.....Every album has a share of both mature (mariah) and immature/fun (mimi).

Languishing is beautifully written and i know alot of her fans see THAT song as a return to her true writing skills. I never said there wasn't ANY good lyrics in the album. The majority of it is uninspired though.

What an ignorant assumption to make. I don't like Memoirs, i find it her worst album quality wise she's ever put out. That's my opinion. Deal with it and move on. @welshangel13 yea i love memoirs but i can see where you are coming from but mariah didnt do all her writting on memoirs like she does on her other albums notice Terrius Nash( the dream) currently married to Christina Milian aka nick cannons x-girlfriend wrote mainly and it was superbly influenced by Nick that is why you hear some jodecie in her songs because she said she wanted to mimick some of the songs he liked so its different but i love it. listen to "impossible" thats def mariahish

@snasc1 I HATE the impossible lol No doubt Mariah was involved in the writing process all i'm saying is that it sounds to me as if she was heavily influenced by The Dream. Listen to any of his albums and you'll hear it. His writing style is all over Memoirs.

@SERTYG I agree with you completely, if she wants to experiment with different sounds/lyrics/styles then let her.. she already had 11 albums under her belt before memoirs of mostly 'mature' albums, even the critics agree its one of most interesting albums of this decade & each track has personality to it which i love. I think thats why its her best reviewed album of this decade..

@SERTYG Sorry but i can't happily accept the way she just seems to replace quality with gimmicks or personality as your calling it. I miss her writing skills. Thats a big part of why i became a fan. These days she fills her songs with slang which i just don't like and it just doesn't seem heartfelt anymore. Mariah was always capable of injecting humour into her lyrics without the need for silly rhymes. X girlfriend anyone?

It's the only Mariah album of which i don't 'love' any tracks. There mostly all forgettable. I do really like obsessed but thats really all i REALLY like. Lyrically and especially production wise it's so far under whats she's really capable of it's really quite disappointing.

Exactly. If Mariah hadn't made that comparison in the first place then no one else would have. I hate the fans who feel like they need to like and agree with Mariah on everything she does. So silly. I honestly hope she takes a break and comes back with something alot more unique and creative. Lets hope so. It's weird though. As she's gotten older her lyrics have become more immature, superficial and are riddled with unnessessary grammatical mistakes. The woman confuses me lol I'll always be a fan of Mariah 1990 - 2008...although this Mariah, the one who spends more time talking about her perfume and Nick than her actual music i won't mindlessly support. *puts the butterfly cd on* starry eyed on the flowery hillside, breathless and fervid amid the dandelions...EPIC LYRICS :D

@welshangel13 yes welsh i agree ive loved mariah since 1990 when i remeber "vision of love" but i can honestley say that "Butterfly" to me was the best album,,, but the funny thing is that when it came out i hated it,, it wasnt the Ballet Mariah i loved,,, but over time it grew to me the best most real Mariah and to this day my faves are Breakdown, Babydoll, Close my eyes, and Butterfly... but this song was my fav on this album, it deserves some praise and these new albums,,,, NOOO except mimi

Musically (in terms of the catchiness of the songs) I think TEOM was one of her best. Also in terms of vocal range, it was a step up from her previous albums.

I didn't think there was really that much protooling going on since she did the most pivotal songs on the album live like WBT, it's Like That, and FLAB (some of the high notes). She even did a snippet of Your Girl live on tour and it sounded great. You have to admit she was in good voice.

@crazy2hazy I like some of the vocals on TEOM. Joyride is my favorite. Her voice seems a lot more untouched and raw on it and theres not so much layering going on. Just because she sang them live doesn't necessarily mean she didn't pro tool the studio vocals. We all know Mariah is her own biggest critic and a perfectionist. The MSG 95' concert being dubbed for no reason at all is evidence of that.

@welshangel13 I still don't think TEOM was protooled as much as people think, because she was in great voice, better than she had been in years. the MSG concert in 95 also wasn't as dubbed as people think because I heard the undubbed version of MIH and it was exactly the same. All concerts have to be dubbed to some extent because of the noise the crowd makes.

@crazy2hazy I know the MSG wasn't dubbed to the extent that the vocals were all completely different but they were cleaned up a lot. And not all concerts need to be dubbed. The vocals are recorded/taken directly from the microphone feed. How do you explain concerts that have been directly aired live to tv...Justin's Futuresex/lovesounds concert for instance.

@welshangel13 For a singer like her and with the type of production for that concert, I think it was necessary to dub to some extent. The main point is her voice, and they did have to clean it up to showcase her voice. Other artists choose not to dub concerts because the voice is not the main attraction, as in Justin's case.

If Mariah really wanted all her televised concert performances to be flawless, don't you think she would have dubbed everything she did to match up to the standards of the Daydream/Music Box Era. The fact that she doesn't sound absolutely perfect in those other eras proves that the dubbing was kept to a minimum, and the vocals were barely enhanced.

Make It Happen's vocals from the audience recording and those from the dvd are actually as different as every other song from the concert, that is to say - completely. And it's just not true that all concerts need dubbed... plenty of DVDs of concerts (including Mariah's e.g. Around The World) can attest to that...

Maybe you're thinking of Proctors, that was two nights, not MSG. None of the vocals in any of the versions from the camcorder footage match any of the vocals from the DVD :-/
