There is no way a BMW is going to beat a Porsche like that. These cars seemed to be pretty much stock. It wasn't even a fair race, but if they tried to match the cars up better, the Porsche would still win. Nice cars though.

Top Gear showed that McLaren SLR was just a little faster in a drag race. There is another video where it was too close to call! It all depends on the gear shifts of the Carrera! SLR is automatic and has nothing to worry about. Carrera GT is manual and that is a disadvantage in a drag race. One mis-shift can be fatal for the Carrera GT!

If you notice better, the GT2 is getting away up to a certain point of the video. From there and onwards, the M5 is not losing any more ground! In the long run, the M5 could possibly catch up.

Not really. The GT2, first of all, is a VERY powerful car. Faster than the Carrera GT on a track, faster than a Turbo on the track and definitely faster than a Carrera GT3. The only faster Porsche is the LeMans racer, The Porsche GT1. Said and done:

- After a certain velocity, air resistance is a major factor. 90% of your energy is spent in getting air out of your way.

- Both topspeed & acceleration hit a ceiling

- A racetrack is never a straight line and the GT2 is a race car :)

This isn't a fair fight - you need a much lighter car to compete with the GT2. The poor M5 "caught up" when the GT2 was eventually decelerating at the end (check background)!!
