  • In that time there was a brand of watches named Pontiac. After the fall of Wim van Est they came up with a new slogan on rhime in the original (Dutch), translated into English it sounds like: "Wim van Est fell 70 meters deep, his heart stood still, but his Pontiac was ticking". (Original: Wim van Est viel zeventig meter diep, zijn hart stond stil, maar zijn Pontiac liep).

  • Jesus friggin Christ . . . I've read about this crash for years but never actually saw the ravine he fell down. Big props to the old school!

  • ive only read about it too in the tour de france history books and i never thought id actually see footage of it.

    seems like he was very lucky to escape with only minor injuries
