Hey, I don't know how to play the violin, but I was wondering about a particular slide sound used with violin, it's usually heard in horror movies, where it starts from a very low note to a very high one.
I'm in a debate with a friend if it is a glissando or a portamento. Could you help me on that? That would be greast.
Hi, your videos are a real enrichment for youtube, cause i couldn't find such explanation (of violin-techniques) like yours anywhere else! I'm practising Introduction and Rondo by Saint-Saens and you yet helped me with my staccato. Thank you and keep on uploading great videos;-)
Hello professor, I'm currently confounded by double artificial harmonics, could you please make a video on it. Also, could you please make a video on pizzacatos, I found that plugging the strings in decending scales (eg: plugging a G on the E string to the open G on the G string in a scale pattern) is tremendously hard, in that I couldn't plug it out loud. , and I want to find a way to practise it and get it straightened out.
Could you please make videos on them, please? Thank you very much!!!
I've been wanting to learn for years now, and watching a few of these videos has given me the final push, the last bit of confidence needed to actually go and try! Thanks! You should really play a piece for your fans!
Thanks, Prof., for your usual clear and concise demonstration of this particular technique. The way you target the 3rds on the beat makes such good sense and gives clarity to the study. I will be working on this one!
Cool! Which video was it? Thanks! I've sunked a lot of time and money into getting great qualtiy. It's always nice to hear when people notice it! (btw) I had my first violin lesson today! After I practise up a little i'll make a video and send it to you :) the teacher i'm taking lessons with is leaving at the end of june so maybe I'll make my video in july? that way you won't see how much i suck right now (haha)
ohh! how did you like that one? I'm not sure if it was my best work :D i'd love to know what you think of lesson #18 (relaxing the mind)
To upload the HD video? mmm first you need and HD camera, and you need an account that let's you post long videos. If you have those to things then you should be able to upload the video, (although it takes a long time)
Hey Prof, I have a question about his technique in a certain piece. Is this technique used in Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens? Or is the chromatic scale just a slide in this piece? Thanks in advance.
Hi, It's different. The chromatic scale in the Rondo is not written under a slur, so you get the articulation with the bow instead of the left hand. The left hand would just play a slide. Make sense?
Wow, I didn't expect a response so fast! Thanks ProfessorV!
On the down B-B (A string) chromatic glissando, I assume you used your 3rd finger all the way down until you ended in 1st position, in which case you used your other fingers (eg., 2nd finger on C#, then C natural, etc.)?
Hi hollermahler, I did that example all on the first finger. This will probably be confusing, but if I were playing the descending B chromatic on a 3rd finger, I'd probably come down to the D#, then play D with the 2nd, C# with the 1st, then shift and play the C with a 2, and finish on a 1. So, 3-321-21. I can make it cleaner than 32-21-1.
interesting finger combination. I'll try the 3-321-21. Also, is there any advantage to playing the glissando with just the first finger? I'd imagine it would be the smoothest.
this man is a wonderful teacher. he reminds me of my favourite teachers.
