Yall do know that a tornado hit Etowah, TN back in the 70's right? My grandma lived threw it she said they can go over mountains as high as the ones behind Etowah...But that was the only tornado to ever hit that area.
tornado on the ground in clay county clouds are going east to west witch is so wrong they go west to east normally it looks like tornado alley is in middle tn now instead of texas
I currently live in the walter hill area and never again will I ever knock the landfill because I truely believe that the landfill saved my subdivision from this tornado. I pray that everyone in the boro recovers!
I live across the street from where they filmed. Our townhouse isnt the one shown but that beige building brown roof is the last of the apartment and townhouses in our complex. I cant believe it was right behind us. Our neighbors were watching it. Had it turned we would have been creamed! Very scary indeed! :((
I now live in Memphis, but those townhouses look very much like Colony House Apts. were my family and i used to live. I lived in M'boro from 84-89 and have never seen a tornado there.
Today in an update NOAA upgraded the tornados classification to an EF4. I saw what looked to be EF4 damage off Patterson road near Eagleville but im not sure how that house was classed in terms of constuction.
ATLANTA — A swath of severe weather moved across a storm-weary South on Monday, killing at least two...The storm system that hit Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and northern Florida brought torrential rain, flooding, hail and gusty winds to states still reeling from strong storms and tornadoes last week. And the states braced for more rain expected later Monday.
An 18-year-old was killed in Etowah, Tenn., on Monday when a tree fell on his family's home as he slept.
Wondered if it would hit over near the Appalachian Trail. I looked up Etowah on wikipedia, looks like the elevation is only around 800' so it's not quite into the mountains near AT but pretty close. I wouldn't want to be hiking the Tenn/NC section of the trail right now.
I am sad about the tornado hitting, and the destruction, but i am thankful nothing touched down around me. I live in Cleveland, TN, and that line of storms hit us a couple of hours later. I was at work at Wally World (walmart), and we almost had to take cover. We had a warning out, and there was a lot of rotation in the sky, but nothing touched down.
Sure I'm a redneck, and everyone else I no is, but I have a friend in Alabama whos friends house got hit by a Tornado in Scottsboro and destroyed it completely. They moved in 3 wks ago, So plz Keep them in yalls prayers. P.S. I live bout 3 hrs from where most of them hit in TN, I was pretty scared that one may hit my house that day. But Plz, keep that family in yalls prayers that I mentioned earlier, Thanks.
I used 2 live on the street where this video was shot. Glad I wasn't living there now, if I would have been there when this happened I'd have probably been crapping my pants just listening 2 the tornado sirens. They are kinda scary.
wow...if a tornado was that close to me...all I can say is that i'd be in the basement or in the bathtub with the mattress over my head!!! Tornadoes to me are terrifying...but awesome to watch =]
Tornado on the Ground in Murfreesboro, TN. I heard on the news there was a tornado on the ground near 231, which is near my house, so I did the safe thing... Grabbed a camera and recorded it!
LMBO! That's AWSOME Darth! I'd do the SAME thing! ;)
im a storm chaser.. ever heard of one? probley not since your from jamaca. Ive been in a lot of hurricanes and seen a lot of tornadoes and damage from both. Hurricanes are nothing but wind and rain. Tornadoes are with hail, rain, wind, lightning. Tornadoes are a lot more deadlier then hurricanes.
dang! the house where the mother and baby were killed is like basically 1 minute and a half walking distance from my house. i have passed that house nearly every day for the past 3 and a half years. it's so sad.....
wow thats too bad! we have tornadoes here in nebraska, but i was reading the comments and im confused about tornadoes and hurricanes, i have understood that hurricanes is pretty much the same, the difference of a hurricane it forms in the water and tornado on the ground, am i wrong??
Hurricanes & waterspouts (twisters over water) develop over water. Tornadoes develop over land. Hurricanes afffect very large swaths of land at one time. Tornadoes affect smaller pieces of land when they strike, and often have much stronger winds than a hurricane. Hope this helps.
idfshgjhs, shut the fuck up. Tornadoes do the same exact thing as hurricanes and on May 4th 2007, a 1.7 mile wide tornado struck greensburg, kansas and destroyed the populated town.. hurricanes are nothing to tornadoes.. the only extremly bad hurricanes were Andrew and Katrina.. do some research buddy
The tornado cam with in a couple hundred feet from my house. The back part of my neighborhood is really messed up. I watched the thing come and go. I was so scared. I now wish I would have caught it on video. I could see debris flying around and stuff. And it was the craziest noise ive ever heard. NOT like a train.
His location is along Northfield Blvd near TN Blvd, about 2 or 3 miles SSE of the tornado. Don't forget, 2 weeks ago today, a tornado hit the Jackson Heights area. Many people do not seem to take warnings seriously, but for this videographer, his danger level was very low as the main body of the storm and tornado were moving away from his location to begin with.
Also, it has a preliminary rating of EF-3, so it was not weak by far.
News said today it will be announced later today, they say it was high end F3 on preliminary and NWS will either issue it as a high end F3 or may upgrade it to an F4.
....i didnt judge on the size idoit.....re-read what i said, i didnt say shit about the size...the fact that people where outside and not in a huge panic makes it seem like a weak twister, idoit
@ Caughtonfilm2: Rutherford County does not have any sirens. None in Lavergne, Smyrna, or most of Murfreesboro. What you're hearing is the Whelen model # WPS-2906 at MTSU, which is part of their campus alert system.
Great video! I sent this in to news channel 5 today :) glad you guys are okies. This time around we got downstairs alot faster. Thank god after last weeks episode!
based on the damage i saw I'd say mid-strength to strong EF3, possibly weak EF4. I was raised in Oklahoma so i know a few things about tornadoes and have seen plenty of them. Props on getting the video I've chased my fair share of them but I was driving home from out of state and was still 2 hours out when this one hit, otherwise i would have been out keeping eyes on it
We heard the sirens twice in Leipers Fork. Wasn't this tornado from that pop up cell that started in Columbia? Our sirens sounded right about that time, then went off again about 30 minutes later, for what though I'm not sure about!
BTW: your video has made it on nationwide news! So sad that a momma and her baby were taken in this storm, but as a whole, only 2 deaths and ~50 injuries is very good, given the lack of warning sirens in this area. I hope that the community as a whole is pulling together and helping those that lost everything.
Based on damage photos, I would rate this as an EF2, well built houses taken down to internal walls. I used to live in Smyrna, and the 1/24/97 event still haunts locals in both cities to this day. I hope the 'Boro gets sirens and quick.... You guys need them badly.
I went into some of the harder hit areas. There are clean EF3 indicators in most of the neighborhoods. Very well constructed homes taken down to just a few interior walls. There were a few instances it appeared to where there was nothing but debris on foundation from brick homes. I didn't see everything but there were at least one or two arguments towards lower end EF4.
@bigme100: I grew up near D/FW in TX, so I know quite a bit about tornadoes. I haven't seen the photos yet, but I've very recently heard it was at least an EF-3.
The sirens were going off all over Murfreesboro...they were going off in Smyrna, Nashville, Columbia, Goodlettsville, Hendersonville...all over the place. It didn't seem like such a threat since there was little rain and wind in some areas where the tornado landed. I have learned my lesson!!
i was a at work when it hit just a quarter/half mile north of us. Hunkered down...keep them in your thoughts, lots of folks houses gone or really damaged.
Keep the Bryant family in your prayer for the mother and the baby that was killed mothers name was Cory Bryant and the baby name was Olivia Bryant....So sad to hear
Well, here in Franklin/Brentwood, I was at work when everything hit. Nothing in my area but some good rain/lightning. Was at MTSU just last weekend on an errand. Stay safe, all
Good job on the Vid. Coming home from Smyrna on 24 took 2 hours, and there was an overturned truck, and you could see where the tornado CROSSED the Highway! It tore a path right across the road. Thats NUTS! Stay safe everybody!!
I only gave that 3 stars becasue I think thats just an F3 tornado, had it been an F5 I would have gave you all 5 stars. Only kidding great job on the footage Darth!!
For those like me living in the area, they are calling for volunteers to meet at the command center A and B located at Walter Hill School and Compton Site. Bring chainsaws, work gloves/clothes etc to help remove trees and debris. You can go from right now or tomorrow morning what ever suits you best.
i'm in Murfreesboro, last I heard was that they didn't need any more help at the Walter Hill School...but the Red Cross at the New Vision Baptist Church on Thompson Lane in the Boro are accepting money donations.
I'm about to upload one of the Dickson, TN tornado warning. We have a Federal Model 2 (of which I own and operate) and a Sentry 16V1T-B low tone which can be heard in the video as well. I'll have it uploaded tonight.
I will definitely be praying for those that were hit in the Murfresburo tornado and everyone else in TN that was hit by a storm as well.

Thats NUTS! Stay safe everybody!!
docdetroit2006 2 years ago
I only gave that 3 stars becasue I think thats just an F3 tornado, had it been an F5 I would have gave you all 5 stars. Only kidding great job on the footage Darth!!

Two confirmed deaths: A mother and her 3 month old baby. The father is severely injured. Such an unfortunate tragedy.
Looking at the results of the storm is unbelievable. I hope we don't have another tornado this year. =[

I live off Old Lascassas Rd near MTSU. Couldn't see anything because of the storms, although I could easily hear the sirens.
Hope everyone is safe.

Awesome video!
