  • Good for you Elvingtonred...we know as we were there from start to finish....unlike alot of these cluless Numptys

  • elvingtonred! whats all that about? if u dont like it then keep youre fucking opinions to yourself, actually...u obviously dont get the real meaning of soul music, its not about being up youre own arse, or being a snob its having a passion for it, ur clearly one of them jumped up soul snobs who needs to fuck off!!

  • @nicoledekker Hey nicoledickhead, I'm not a snob however, I will attack those utter tossers who either ruined the scene or, use publicity for their own devices!

  • And so, the Wigan "Baggies Bandwagon" rolls on - as shameless, clueless and totally soulless as ever. 'KTF' my arse! :-(

  • thought it would be river dance when the man started talking

  • Utter fucking disgrace, O'Grady what a mincing clueless tosser there's no wonder I get so mad. It's Winstanley and Walker who with the vehicle that was Wigan, fucking RUINED a great soul scene, and along with O'Grady should hang their heads in shame having picked up the biggest 'Wankers Of The Modern Age' trophy.

  • @elvingtonred Another Soulie who has nothing else in there life, very SAD YOU ARE... So what, it was harmless fun... and if you call yourself a Soulie? you sound more like a homophobic twat to me... go back under rock you crawled from..

  • @Irishsoulbrother Quite finished? 29yr old WTF do you know?

  • This is just so sad, mad and incredibly bad! Amongst the many great features of the NS scene was its anonymity as it was born out of a deep felt need for working class youth to define itself outside of mainstream (divy) culture. As I remember it was the DJ's that made it prior to their clash of egos that tore it apart. If Winstanley had done this in the old days, the dance floor would've emptied at the very sight of him, great sounds or not . O'Grady=Wanker!!

  • Zombies in the flesh folks, right here - "Wigan's Walking Dead" LOL

  • Dunno if Northern ever translates too good on mainstream TV. Russ gets slated a lot but his heart (of soul) is in the right place. I used to go to his shop in Wigan and he sold me some neat originals mid week then the Casino on the weekend. The branding of it always hurts a lot of soulies. You need some guy on his knees trying to pick up some back street bluies after the bag breaks on mainfloor, the old guy who looked 100 sitting by the bogs, and Mike Walker spraying airfreshner at 3AM (Eternal)

  • this is not our n.s scene ... all this crap publicity is what destroyed it ... once the cameras came to wigan , i never went back .... it disheartened me for years ... i adore the northern scene and the music , always have done , always will do , just a pity we weren't left alone . i've never seen this clip before ... not only is it crap , its highly embarressing ..... such a shame .... ktf .. C A L , from prestatyn .

  • respect here...just bringing it to a new generation

  • The Wigan divs never learn...

  • All i know is this music is the dogs balls, and roll on sat night, and middlewich soul night

  • Russ and Walker fucked up Northern and the Casino bastard breadheads. As soon as they started putting Skining in the Snow and Footsie on TOTP all the sightseers came and the Soul freaks we couldnt get in. Then they decided to come to Cleethorpes and fuck our scene up there too!! Total jealousy and money grabbing twats. I see Russ now and then and say the same to his face. Hes got no answer but um,er, ah but! Very sad

  • @UnionjackatHWP

    Well said!

  • The guy on the left Sandy, what a shame he never metions his mate Neil, they were friends for a long time I understand, but whenever anyone talks to him he never mentions Neil.

All sandy could do before he met neil was do the splits and kick, he became a better DANCER after meeting Neil, I understand they worked dance moves out in neils mums front room through the week. Paul should have got hold of Neil as well. even now he would show the rest of pauls guests a thing or two about dancing.

  • I remember charging out, and trying to sneak in before me muvver woke up and caught me!

  • O'Grady in - tank top, panda collars, shite kecks and wanker's shoes - not a fucking clue!! Another one yet again stealing from the scene that yearned to be left alone from the likes of this shit!

  • @TheLittleginnie 'Comic Effect' give me a break here, as obviously you in akin to O'Grady had nor have any cognisance of what was going on. The NS scene sought no wider publicity, that's what fucked it up!!

  • ogrady is a twat

  • i agree fuking bent twat

  • @ModZeb1967 Dont take myself too seriously Zeb, never self promoted myself, started the Belfast Soul Club up and other soul clubs all about the music always about the music nothing else...shame there is so many bitter people out there who hate to see people getting on well. See you about mate..i hope

  • @worksoplads what yrs we add

  • Eh? '73 - '81 = 9 years?

  • @MoveOnSoulClub

    Years in brackets 73(1) 74(2) 75(3) 76(4)

    77(5) 78(6) 79(7) 80(8) 81(9)

It opened early in 1973 & closed in Decmber 1981 so near as damn it, it was opened for 9 years.

  • that bloke, liam,he does the best backdrops i've ever seen

  • very funny keep the faith

  • brilliant....lol.

  • the music is top draw, but the clothes that bloke is wearing ,looks like he comes from a nutters home ,,,but northern soul will live forever ,,,,and i love it ,,think they could of put a better record on than that one ,dio i love it ,yes i do

  • why are they dressed like this ? the scene has moved, on thank god

  • NICE ONE

  • paul it is good that you are into northern and that you had it on your show but why did you dress like that with those silly shoes u should have worn northern gear and you would have been able to move although I do understand that you wanted to make all the old dears in the audience laugh!! By the way Liam is excellent dancer KTF xx

  • ''Do I love you'' wasn't discovered at WIGAN ... NEITHER WAS LONG AFTER TONIGHT IS ALL OVER ZZZZZZ OR ANOTHER U MENTIONED ... INFACT CAN U SAY IN TRUTH ANY OF THE REAL TOP SOUL SOUNDS WERE DISCOVERED AT WIGAN? Asking that as a genuine question, as I'm fed up with bad memories some seem to have. I used to keep little books with all sorts in them related to venues and friends including music tracks so I KNOW what I'm saying is true .. Russ your memory needs shakin up mate!

  • Totally agree, Neither is he the godfather of northern soul nor did he put northern on the map, He may have put wigan on the map but his other claims are Ludicrous, I heard Dean Parish, and Long after tonight is all over at the Torch long before wigan - I never Liked him then, and still dont like him now.

    Good Clip though !

  • Great posting I totally agree 'cos it reveals onset of Alzheimer's is obviously affecting some brains. Frank Wilson's track and other's mentioned were ALL played b4 Casino, and NO WAY IS HE GODFATHER OF ANYTHING BUT CLEARLY A BAD MEMORY & ONE SUSPECTS BLATANT LIES. MAKES ME LAUGH PPL LIKE HIM USE 'KTF' ZZZ. There's lots of false info out there about Frank's track & I for one know that there are more copies out there than people realise HAHAHA GREAT to cross YOUR path, YOU KNOW YOUR stuff!

  • LOL have gotta add, lol I'm creasing up laughing here cos your last comment PROVES that you were around like me then lol 'cos lol no, none of guys could stand him lol, lol, he was about as popular as another we could mention lol and hey in retrospect those oldies long gone now weren't wrong lol, they must be turning in their graves hearing his claims of sheer fantasy that are now being swallowed by newer soul fans worldwide. Surely Wigan was big enuff so no reason to claim total untruths?

  • I thought the godfather of Northern soul was Dave Godin(rip) He was the one that gave the title "Northern soul" And its Credit should be taken back to the start of the "Wheel Days" Where the Real Movement started,

Apart from pioneering Djs like Tony jebb, Alan Day(RIP) Les cockell (RIP) and the many djs that we should realy pay tribute too, Not some daydreamer from wigan whos up there on his own pedastal. hes a legend in his own Lunchtime.

YOU know your stuff too my friend.

  • Alan Day (RIP) ?????????

    He's still alive

  • The old Torch Dj Alan Day is the one im talking about you must know a different one.

  • I know exactly who you're talking about and exactly who I'm talking about and its the same Alan Day. Will PM you.

  • I had started to notice that northern football fans who were in London to follow their team were coming into the store to buy records, but they werent interested in the latest developments in the black American chart. I devised the name as a shorthand sales term. It was just to say if youve got customers from the north, dont waste time playing them records currently in the US black chart, just play them what they like - Northern Soul.[

  • These records stand outside of time. In 100 years they'll still make record players "for connosseurs only", and records like "Together" by Bobby Star and "Burning Sensation" by Robbie Lawson will be worth more than a Van Gogh.
