when u say throttle is it move of a reverse throttle then an applying the gas throttle? (just clarifying more of a move the wrist towards goose neck and anterior than the posterior). Thanks Ari.
Just did some muscle and ligament damage by not tapping out to this in time. It doesn't feel like much until the throttle (or body twist tweak from side control in my case). My advice. Once they grab their own arm start getting ready to tap. ouch.
@martinimvu It creates more pressure on his elbow. By "throttling" It moves your forearm further up against the joint of his elbow. I also like to pair the throttling with a shrug of your shoulder in order to lift your elbow higher along with the thorttling of your wrist it will be very tight.
If it's so basic and simple and has such a high success rate, why don't we see it more in MMA competition? Is there an equally simple escape that any MMA fighter worth his salt would know?
looks like a good move but from the mount it looks like you can shrimp, pin the non posted leg by stepping over and sweeping. the mounter will be forced to take the sweep or let go of the lock. ill still def try it out tho.
ive found that instead of just pushing the shoulder, start at the top of the pec/bottom of the shoulder joint and ROLL the shoulder out it makes it even that much more nasty
nice , but usually the guy on the bottem wouldnt rap his arms around you when your in full mount they usually try to flip you over by sticking an elbow between you and him
Actually, people do that all the time when they are on the bottom, to try to cut the distance and avoid movement for those on the top, if your opponent is on top, then it's a bit more uncommon, but you still can get him with it, I got two guys today with that lock.
hmm random question... is it alright to learn jiu jitsu from the internet. Everytime i try a new move in class i end up getting pwned...its annoying when somedays u just cant go to class
It's fine to learn Jiu - Jitsu from the internet, however you need to practice the moves repeatedly with a partner over and over again, until it becomes second nature. You're probably getting pwned because you haven't done the moves enough. It will come eventually.
Yep, it attacks the elbow for sure...the name basically means you 'wrap around the arm and place you hand on the shoulder' ...hence the reasons it says wrapping shoulder with arm lock.
Yep, it attacks the elbow for sure...the name basically means you 'wrap around the arm and place you hand on the shoulder' ...hence the reasons it says wrapping shoulder with arm lock.
@Submissions101 I realize this is basically a standard arm lock done the opposite way, so the hand is on the shoulder instead of the wrist, but I really can't see this breaking anyone's arm especially if they're larger. Do you think this technique has enough leverage to inflict damage to a determined attacker?
I tried this out in jits class tonight. I caught several people with it, and it hurts like a mofo. Definitely significant pressure on the elbow. I showed it to my instructor (4th degree black belt in Kajukenbo), and he recognized it as a variation of something they teach from a standing position for self defense. So I'd say it does have enough to damage a determined attacker.
@Submissions101 very good one brother.. i use this a lot when i cant get my triangle or armbar... i fake a kimura and go for this right away, and i feel it really good when guy tries to posture up, makes it easier for the lock, its scary cus sometimes they dont see it coming and i feel like they are going to hurt themselves into not taping at the right time....i find it easy to do on white belts or fresh bluebelts. but a good second resort move from guard to induce them in errors.
Amazing. Everytime i have an overhook on one arm my go to is always the triangle (and it works fairly well most/all the time on newer guys) but indeed, the more experienced are more resistant.
I should try this over hook -> kimura-like grip submission, thanks!
hey, its a new way to tap, in case your partner isnt hearing, he'll probably feel the smell
nah, getting serious, nice technique but its so hard to do from the guard... its even hard to get someone to actually tap from this when he is actually willing to feel it.
Haven't tried it yet. It looks like it could be a good transition to something else, but unless you can trap your opponent's free arm it appears it is too easy to mess with the hand on the shoulder that provides the opposing force.
i love that i wouldnt use it from mount bc i do mma so ill just punch them but from the bottom i could use ide have to modifie it thou so they arnt punchin me with there free hand but still love the move thanx
im not saying it doesnt work, but its way to easy to power out of. its cute and it'll work against someone weaker who doesnt know what he's doing, but anyone with any type of grappling experience can get out of. I love subs 101 but this video just isnt that effective.
i like the direction your most recent videos are going because there are so many little locks that i have missed in classes focused on fighting. i come from an Aikido background and this kind of teaching

i feel i could have totally used this one while someone was trying to wiggle out of a mount. i feel the same as Powrboy77 that i just have not seen these ones used by people at my gym. i bet a lot of guys know them but just not taught and i am glad to see as many new (new to me) moves.
Having all these videos are nice, but there should be a video or some sort of annotation that emphasizes you pick only four or five moves max and practice them like your life depends on it.
Not to say that you should stop making these videos, but remind the viewers that there's no point in knowing these moves if you don't practice them.

that right there is an indicator of poor technique.
what if the guy who did this to you was way stronger than you. could you still power out of it. i think not.
no disrespect but i take technique over power anytime. and if you have both the better.

Training looks nice, but in real life the angles can get nasty as they twist the elbow inside and pull to escape.
