when i tried to solder my wiikey i couldn't get the solder to stick to my wii and thus the solder came off of the board drive still works perfectly and i had a Drive key orginaly but it only plays 4 out of 20 of my backups.

is there a way i can re solder the board ? i have a fine point soldering iron if that matters and i use .032 dim. rosin core solder

Yeah - You can play back ups! You would be much easier buying a Drivekey tho - no soldering, just plug and play but you still have to strip your wii down tho. There are lots of dis assembly vids on youtube. Wish these were around when I chipped mine - would save a lot of hassle!!

Tried to do the 'quicksolder' option first but found it too tricky! I'm not the best solderer in the world so found the wire method way easier!

I also have a Wiikey installed and it works great - only thing I should mention you have to be pretty good at soldering as the pads are tiny!! I was on the last wire and managed to rip the pad straight off the board! Wife was not too happy as she had only bought the Wii an hour earlier - its fine now tho but I had to send it to one of these guys on ebay to have it repaired! So - beware !!

as far as i know, the Wiikey v2 works on all Wiis.

and Nintendo havnt blocked the usage of modchips through their frimware YET.

Wha, in Holland you pay 80/90 euro for a fucking PS2 modchip, thats very expensive because you can get a PS2 console for 99 euro (v18).

Just get a modchip and solder it yourself, practise first on other PCB's, I reccommend you a old RAM PCB since it has very small pads.

We only need to get the right screw drivers and I hope we'll be able to record the whole process.

There are many different mod chips to different game consoles. If you buy those who needs plumbing there is a 50/50 risk. If you do it wrong your wii will be broken. But some companys sells dvd readers with wiikey so you just switch the insides. There is also some who sells already modded wii's.

you can also play games from different reigeons, say if you have a US Wii you can play games that were only realeased in JAPan Format.

How do I disable the chip altogether? Where can I find a working version of the 1.9b update that will suitably corrupt the chip's programming? If I manually remove the chip from the wii, will all traces of it's programming and presence be removed with it?

Radio Shack sells a lot of it, you would use Pinpoint soldering iron (or normal, pin point is just recomended), also you need Rosin Core Flux, and you want some 60/40 Rosin Core Solder and yeah... and your going to have to buy the wiikey chip online anyway :P
