  • I think its a gibson lespaul guitar in this demo?

  • Thanks, One day I will perfect that tone.

  • sounds awesome!

  • Wow...thats the Ride the Lightning sound. Nice job getting that tone on a marshall platforrm. I know they used mostly boogies on that record.

  • Ride the Lightning...spot on sound, really. I suppose it sounds a bit better in real life, I suppose. Not bad that.

  • do you sell that amp?

  • @tumbago Yes I do, check the EVTmods on YouTube.

  • i have been told my my road tech that kt88's dont last long as i have always wanted them. but he says the volumes we use would eat the tubes up very fast. is this true?

  • i think it sounds awesome

is there a way i could get the schem?

  • @kingkobra813 sorry I don't have a schem. Send me youe Email and I'll send you what I have.

  • awful, that will sound like a fuzzy noise behind a live band. no definition, just distortion.

  • @markyellowseries3 your rite, not my best work, bypass cap to large, but fix it days later and made it sound thicker just like Ride The Lightning.

  • ok i probably sound like a total noob, but are kt88s the same as 6550s? or maybe kt66s? idk. also, would a cranked amp with 6550s sound crunchier than a cranked el34 based amp?

  • KT88 are more aggressive if you will, but if I had to chose a tube for Metal/Rock then I would chose KT88. If I had to chose a tube for Rock/Blues then I would choice 6550. BTW I have a set of 6550 in one of my SL and I truly love them, I get the best cleanest sound with 6550 out of all the tubes I've tried. A cranked amp with 6550 will sound thicker that EL34's. El34's are warmer sounding. You can't go wrong with KT88. That was a good question.

  • thanks man that was a HUGE help. I only have experience with 6L6's and i'm about to switch over to an el34 based amp because from what i hear, i like el34's alot better. but i know that certain guitar players like Slash prefer 6550s, so i wanted to know why. thanks again! :D

  • If you end up not liking the EL34 sound and want to try 6550/KT88 replace the decupling resistor above the first diode of the board with 15K for a 100 watt amp and also replace the bias splitters with 82k. That should do it.

  • i like this sound drive not morre i for me,kt 88 is not cheap tubes, but better change, beacuse sound is great!

  • Sounds great. What changes did you actually make to convert to KT88 tubes.

  • I replaced the dropping resistor to 15K, above the diod.

  • sounds like with more gain than a regular 2003

  • this looks suspiciously like Jerry's workshop at FJA mods.......

  • It's my Garage. I think jerry works out his basement and his shop looks way better than mine. Hahaha.

  • more gain, but shove an mxr or tubescreamer etc... in front of an 800 with el34's and you'd notice it less.

    ps

    how about playing some lead?

  • That's tight 800 tone, nicely done! I may have to look into KT-88's :-)

  • It might increase the gain, but very little.

  • Hey, if I wanted to keep EL34's... Could I change the Tubes to Tungsol 12AX7's and it have more gain?

  • Hey question for you is the only mod you did the tubes?

  • Sounds just like early Metallica. Nice work!

Also, would you recommend this amp?

  • Thanks, I'm using a Marshall 425B cab It sounds better with my V30 Celestion speakers.

  • does anyone know the difference between a 1980 jmp 2203 and a 1981/1982 jcm 800 2203?

  • Different head box.

Same amp I believe. The main thing to watch out for are the horizontal input 800 from the later 80s, and the channel switchers

  • yaaaa ride the lighting

wouldve ssounded better with more bass tho

  • I think so too.

  • I like the sound... Can you please share with me how to modify your amp and where?

I have a ceriatone as well, and would like to modify it.

  • what is the price of that?

  • what's the custom high gain mod you speak of? i want to start building a ceriatone 2204 to run as my high gain rhythm amp, and use my mesa for tight leads and really high gain stuff. i plan on running a kt tube set in the amp, and getting a bit more gain, i'd like to know what your high gain mod was.

  • Is this just the amp. Any effect pedals used here?

  • I'm also using a moded Boss Super OverDrive.

    Thanks For Watching.

  • the keeley?

  • No a custom mod I did by accident.

  • cool. i wonder how it would sound with a zakk wylde overdrive

  • Fucking amazing .

  • yes, what's next the digitech valve distortion? Brutal. think of a boogie overdriven with the zakk overdrive- holy shit.

  • So, what mod was done? Extra pre tube?

  • No extra preamp tube.

  • How much for that head? Or how do you just sell mods?

  • This amp was modded with KT88 and high gain. The KT88 alone are 144.00 Dollars and the mod 250.00 Dollars, the complete amp with the mod is 1,450.00 Dollars. With one year warranty and three months for the tubes. Oh yah, build in the good old USA.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Hey dood u got hte best jcm800 clip on youtube, even better than FJA mods imo. Anyways why is the hi gain mod $250? what does it consist of?

  • I like how you play the slayer covers. It would sound better with a custom modded 2203, not the same as my clip but more evil tone.

  • Ok, so if you buy a complete kit, do you have to assemble anything?

  • I love that amp. Thanks for watching Vomitore

  • Sounds great man. Good job. And, you played my favorite Metallica tune.

  • nice playing, and awesome sound

  • Thanks. KT88

  • That actually sounds like its solid state. ;X

  • Ride the lightning yeah!! XD

  • It should be posted soon. Thanks for watching.

  • so, youre pushing it with the boss pedal??? Cause if so, next time DONT do that. We want to hear the amp in its true nature.

  • I agree, since its moded I at least want to hear it's true form, now it's messed up with the OD pedal.

  • That....is more gain than I have on my Mark IV

  • I'm also using a moded Boss Super OverDrive.

    Thanks For Watching.

  • Wow, Amazing tone!!!

  • Thanks GutyGuitar from Brazil. KT88 Baby.

    Thanks for watching

  • aren't you the fja guy?

  • No. Im Located in Los Angeles, this is one of many amps Im getting ready to put on you tube.

Do you like how it sounds?

    Thanks for watching.

  • This custom amp was scoped before the video clip was placed on YouTube. The amp is a prototype for a customer who plays using this type of sound and I am building two for him.

  • put an oscilloscope on the preamp dude.. your preamp tubes arent biased i can hear it under the gain - is a hissing sound in the speakers. trust me i know what you did to get the gain and it doesnt work without measuring the B+ voltages and biasing each stage going to the plates of your pre's.

ive got a private vid of the tone mine sounded like with the same shit going on, that i went back to stock with until i myself can figure the math out.

it does sound ok, hit me up for more info.

  • I "Know"

  • could you clarify with what he said. here or PM me? thanks.

  • holy shit!

  • What do you mean. Do you like it or not.

  • Early Man!

  • Thanks zappaelcrappa. I should be posting a second clip, and really show the dynamics of this amp.

  • Good job sounds great, better than most Marshalls ive heard :P

  • no way it gets this sound

is it modded for higher gain

    or just to kt 88?

    have you used pedals infront?

  • Your right, I moded this amp to have more gain and crunch. It actually sounds way better. I used a sd-1 to push the amp. Ill try to post some more clips.

  • what mods have you put in?

it sounds heavy and fucking cracked

what volume/preamp volume is it on?
