I deleted the sms.db file but I none of the buttons came back. If anone knows how to fix the sms PLEASE let me know. I just got this phone a week ago. It has a factory unlock and untethered jailbreak so I can't restore the thing. 3gs firmware 4.1
The tip with deleting the sms.db file, worked for me. I used a program called DiskAid.. ( a win program) Hope you got yours to work too... Otherwise contact me and I'll send you the program.

my sms does not work either. this has happened ever since i installed new applications in my iphone. all my old sms have been deleated and if it does work the sms agian get deleated. does anyone know how to fiz the prb?
If you delete your sms.db file (located in: var\mobile\library\sms) it fixes it, you can open and send\recieve sms. its temporary on mine, think the only permanent solution is to upgrade to 1.1.3 with itunes and start again (im asuming u got the bug using ziphone, i did). i installed isms as a backup sms service incase it stops working, which it does often. you cant look at recieved messages, but good for sending sms if sms.ap is playing up
i got the same problem, to be honest i only just got my phone working with my sim, but now it is i cant open sms. i intalled isms, which works, its not as good as standard sms, but works, and will do till i find a fix. i sms can be found in comuniity sources if you need it

Nevermind... Got it fixed. Restored, etc. and didn't lose my unlock:) Good luck with everyone else.
