But back in the Old Testament, it was required.

What exactly is the new testament is it a continuation of the old or what exactly.

@TheShinobi32 the Old testament set up covenant of God and Israel and introduced the prophets including those who prophesized of Jesus like in Isaiah 53. The New Testament is the New Covenant, the forgiveness of sins for all time by death of Son of God on cross. It wipes out old Leviticul laws and redirects God's ideal as relational btwn Man and God, not obedience.
