@faron27 The Horten brothers did NOT go to America and setup in area 51. They went to Argentina. The proof is, one of the brothers is still alive and living in Argentina trying to sell a homebuilt design of a propeller-driven flying wing, called the PUL-10. Try searching for "nurflugel" and then "pul-10" under that.
@fluffy1931 yes they are real planes and would not have been built unless of operation paper clip, and the Horten brothers and every other great German brought to the states and set up in what is now called area 51. Perhaps you should read a book and not use Google or Wiki for your information have a nice life.
I remember the scene where the boys tumble thru the windows of their baracks. I saw that movies in the early forties when i was about 8m yrs old. I was prompted to build a small gliding model of the Horten plane, climbed a tall tree and launched it.
I really like this plane but to say that it would have won the war is ludicrous! Unless they also had a way to properly stabilize the craft it would have been more dangerous to fly than be attacked by. Also as far as WWII aircraft go the B29 was by far the greatest technological achievement of the war! And the mother of all long range bombers of today!
@sammicrazier: You obviously have no clue about aerodynamics, this plane's actual rather good flight characteristics and the fact that the 'stability issue' got solved even before the first prototype flew.
The H.IX V2 prototype actually undertook a simulated "dog-fight" with a Messerschmitt Me 262, the first operational jet fighter and the H.IX V2 outperformed the Me 262.
So it really was a finished design when it comes to that.
@fluffy1931 Do you have any idea how many planes crash during development? I guess not. A crash says zero about the feasibility of a design. Ysb mtf dmbss.
Some of the guy's from the skunk works made a full size replica of this for the history channel (I think). It was to evaluate it's stealth characteristics. BTW, look at that those big swastikas on the 'tail'
It makes me want to une cry :'-( sitting there rotting like that someone should take it to an resteration house :-) ooo I know they should take it back to Germany and have them make a exact replica of it then store the original or restore the original
@faron27 Well you can do a google search on all the Scots inventors and engineers, as there are quite a lot of them. Watt, Bell, Baird, Dunlop ect. However the Germans produced a lot of good chemists and physicists as well as engineers too. Hitler was an idiot that didn't listen to his Generals otherwise the Germans would have won the war easily
@faron27 I absolutely agree 100% with you as its very clear that the allies back engineered many German ideas. The English dont like them for one reason: They fear them :- ) Its called insecurity
@faron27 ..,keep sniffing glue, dude. More like The US Northrop YB-49 prototype jet-powered heavy bomber aircraft developed by Northrop shortly after World War II. Had more influence on stealth aircraft than the Ho 229.
And it was based on YB-35 an earlier model based on Northrops flying wing work throughout the 1930's.
Do a search on Youtube for "Horten Nurflügel (Flying Wing) Panek Ultralight 10" and be enlightened.

Ok people.. all we need is a $2.000.000 gift to the Smithsonian and the Go-229 is ready for display. Who pays up?

good thing he didn't use them (sorry german people) i not outas i'm just saying that the world would be different if they were around

with out this design there would be no stealth tech or any good planes. I am proud to be born in Munich Germany and have this kind of history.

To all american people: Please make this awesome plane fly again!

Someday, I'll steal this plane and restore it. It just looks too cool to be rusting like that!

they where made after the war was made, hitler was going to use it to win the war.
kyle7566 2 years ago
actualy they were working on this design before the war and Hittler thought it would make a good weapon and funded it after war had started.

lol, there were 3 completed... NONE WERE MADE AFTER THE WAR
