  • I'm trying to upload some of my own songs on cheap "Lifecam" webcam.Just wondering have you done any solo recordings and if not why not.Just what the world needs - some really good acoustic music.Love the guitar playing and the lovely English vocals on some familiar songs - very easy on the ear in the nicest possible way. MICKRYN

  • that’s very kind mickryn .. many yourubers have asked although i haven't done any recordings.. I really enjoy digging out old songs i use to play or new songs that come to my notice then posting.. if I had the chance i would just fill my time with easy acoustic music with convivial company.. kind regards.. mike

  • Great song, great performance, lovely guitar style. I'm singer/

songwriter and was wondering what method(camcorder, webcam) you used

    for your excellent videos. MICKRYN

  • Hi mickryn currently I'm using a Logitec mid range price but recently is sometimes recording out of sync and the problem is often exacerbated in the upload. It could be a software issue so I'm going to upgrade. Its done me well for 300 or so uploads and is good to see review your performance. Its a great way to improve but I would suggest to try and by the best you can.. cheers

  • M, u take me back to the sweet yrs!

Awhhh . . . When life was young:-) Thanks for the memories my friend.

  • age is just a number.. but yes reflections filter out all but the sweet.. and why not... have a great day..

  • WOW.......that is such a good rendition of this MacLean Song .....he writes such great lyrics............hmmm.......I'd rather roll around in the grass than go to a cocktail party (part of my duties at a museum)......lol......as for the aforementioned look...the fabulous voice pulls it all together and voila - Mike!

  • this is a song i played every morning for months before setting out for work.. yes i prefer scruffing it in mud and water...

  • A great Don Mclean song and a great Mike version (would I expect anything else - well no I wouldn't). Cheers Mike.

  • agreed..

  • Wonderful way of playing it my friend,You are really talented guitar player,I personally loved this song very much and just discovered recently how wonderful works of Don Mclean,Wish I could learn to play this particular song with you together with your skills of putting this song so beautifully,Keep it up excellent work my friend certainly 5 stars.

  • Thank you for those kind words and stars. It is a song it took me a long time to learn and recently I have been playing it almost every day, i wonder why DM is a really great song writer. Cheers .M

  • Who are you???....Sam Elliot?....the same person

  • lol, you are not the first... and probably not the last to think that. For sure I haven't got his money or fame. cheers. M

  • I've just come across this, and like you I heard this song in the early seventies and I've always liked it. There's an expression which I believe originated amongst British soldiers in WW1, ' if we had ham, we could have ham and eggs, if we had eggs.' If I had a guitar and could play, I could perform this as well as you, if I could sing!

  • Many thanks for that story and kind words. Very interesting addition to the background. Thank you kindly. M

  • I tried to play it years ago. It took me a long time before I began to really understand the words.. M:)

  • Wow! Very, very beautiful rendition. I gotta learn that tune myself.

  • hi dejay.. thats a real enviable call! I tried to learn this many years ago. I guess it wasn't right then.. I think i understand the song now.. cheers for the note..m

  • Mike, I've been a DM fan for 38 years. I once sat 3 foot away from him while he sang this song - you put the same feeling and emotion into it as he does.......simply lovely!

  • will do.. thanks for dropping by.. m

  • this is very good ...nice fingerpicking and good voice if you like check out my version i love to play this tune

  • i had to come back and listen again.its a wonderful song and you are amazing.

  • many thanks for dropping and and posting.. Mike

  • lovely where did u learn it, i want to do it

  • I think in my notes I said I tried to play it years ago.. then it just seemed to fall into place.. maybe the sentiments of the song are more real these days..

  • thats cool my friend.. bravo

  • many thanks M

  • Love the song and the composer and all his songs. You have done a fine job of arranging the pick for this great song

  • I tried it years ago and couldn't get it right.. its been slowly percolating through .. thanks

  • you are more than welcome mike..pete...

  • one of my fav don maclean songs, you do a great job on it mike..pete

  • Hi Pete.. yes I've been playing everyday until recently..now travelling without a guitar.. ouch!!

  • Cheers Pete..

  • A nice thoughtful arrangement,of a great song! The sentiment, reminds me of Uptown Uptempo Woman, a song,i'm sure, you could do great justice to?

  • Hi caulfield.. I'll look it up when I get home.. thanks for the note.. M

  • very nice :)

  • thanks..

  • very hard song to play, nice rhythm

  • its a beautiful chord run from D down to the Em.. I play it every day..

  • This is the second time I've heard you take the timing and mess with it......not that that's a bad thing, mind you....you made it your own in that sense.

One thing that happens to those who write their own music that becomes popular, is that the populous generally has a low tolerance for songs that are reconstructed.

They pay big dollars to go hear the artist perform verbatum and get pissed whem the song is screwed with.

    As for THIS rendition.....BRAVO!!

    -Nutmegger1957

  • Cheers Nutmegger.. I think your right.. and any musical artist/author has a right to feel cross when someone copies .. still the oral tradition to move a song on through the years and many songs benefit from different versions.. when it comes to a song, hear with ears and play with a heart..

  • @nutmegger1957 I don't think that's true. Even Dylan never plays any of his songs the same way twice.. ....I like hearing all those different versions. Like the world is always in flux so are folk songs especially....changing and evolving....no need to get pissed about it....it's nature

  • Very pretty playing and singing! love that picking! 5*****

  • Many thanks.. its a lovely song..

  • A fine rendition of a fine tune. 5 *****

  • Many thanks its a lovely tune and song words

  • A painful yet warm picture that this song details so well, and you have done a wonderful job communicating it. Don still rocks.

  • he wrote a great song.. yes the words are difficult..he's just following his heart..

  • You nailed it. I can't tell you how impressed I am. Now I will figure it out but it will take me a while. You are very good and thank you for the effort.
