ALICE is good, ILBE is a good larger pack too. The ILBE is a bit more expensive but has more accessibility with side zips for getting at stuff at the bottom.
Mystery Ranch has some amazing packs with large carry ability (up to 7500), though they are pricey. If you can afford them though I would suggest going Mystery Ranch.
I am looking at the eberlestock v90 battleship. Its quite large, I need it for long expedition trips. Have you heard anything about it? Cant find much online.. How is the suspension on your pack? is it comfortable with a lot of weight?
you have G4 Operator the same one i have yes it dose move side to side but what u have to sinch it down really good just like to pont that out it is a really good pack
n my experience, your review of the Eberlestock also connotes to the Badlands 4500 (which I own and isn't tactical/molle), but the BL4500 internal frame DOES track well in terms of sway factor, is relatively slim and though it weighs 8lbs and designed to carry heavy loads - its still pretty low drag, high quality US made modularity for the price. Not perfect - but they have a lifetime guarantee which I've tested and they've met w/no probs.
Hey man thanks for the review it really helped me make a decision! I was about to purchase a Camelbak BFM 500 and thought I was barely guna make it, but what you said and believe me you're right about Murphy's law. Haha anyways thanks again!
The best set up i have tried to date is either a large or med Alice with Molle shoulder straps it feels like a brand new pack. I go on extended hunting trips and the alice is the only pack that has been able to handle the 45-75lbs load depending on season. The beauty is that it is simple, i have had the zippers on very high packs with internal frames break with a heavy load not good
@cbr6864 For me the large is almost too large unless you are in heavy winter conditions plus it must be used with a frame. with the med you can use it either way, if you strap a butt pack on the bottom then attach your sleeping gear to the bottom as well there is more than enough room in the Alice for extended trips. I also attach two dump pouches one on each side to provide more space.
I like that you took cost ,comfort and quality into consideration. I like to go as light and mobile as I can....But comfort is a major factor in gear selection. Great pack review.
I think that most people who are not in the peak physical condition that soldier are, 30 lbs is a heavy maximum for a pack. All out collapse of govt., emergency services, and utilities means that gasoline will be hard to come by since everyone will have the same idea of driving out of the powder keg that is the urban sprawl. Most people don't walk 12 miles a day, and that's how fast most will HAVE TO walk. Anymore than a 30 lb pack and they wont be able to move after 8 miles or so.
@DeimosSaturn Agreed that most ppl are not in shape and cant handle lots of weight. This is not about that, its about looking at other options in packs. I'd much rather get a larger ruck. Even if I only packed 30lbs I would have more room for in case I need it all for around the same money. Thats the point of the video.
Thanks brother ! Like your vids honest and no bull*hit ! ALICE is still my best girl medium or large I have both ! Well ok 3 medium and 2 larges ! My EDC is a maxpedition CONDOR ll ! The MAX.CON ll is built like a tank,BUT its just to small for me I like to carry alot more gear so its pretty much maxed out ! I fell the same way you do,when someone thinks 72hrs is enough gear think again,UNCLE MURPHY will come a knocken ! Thanks again !OUT!
@ppspsd very true i live in Florida since 1963 IN 1992 Andrew was the worst six months with nothing
i would form groups to help each other out and as long as everyone was in the same boat the group stay together but once two or three people was getting extra help some place else the group broke apart
Good data points brother, I still have my issue Large Alice that was standard issue to our teams in Central America. I have not seen a system as good, it's not perfect but it is balanced. I use mine now for as a (BOB) and a Maxpedition Condor II which to me is about the size of a 3-day ruck as a (GHB). In the Army the ruck is your life support that in most ways supplies your LBE or web gear.
What paint did you use to camo your rucks, and hows the overall durability of "paint on fabric"?? For if it stands up well I could make a custom camo to fit my area using a basic solid color pack.
Thanks for the info, currently working on a real limited budget, but dosn't hurt to gather info, make a plan and do small things to move forward till things open up. Take care your vid's are great.

Another solution are the luggage and bags with wheels, just need to reinforce the interior. Good for urban areas.
