I am dating a Luxemburger and your lessons have helped me a lot with her family. Thank you for taking the time to create videos like these, you are very kind :)
My mother is from Luxembourg and still speaks it fluently, but does not know how to read it at all. I showed her this video and I saw a little smile. I believe she told me most people from Luxembourg now speak French though, which means most of the culture has probably went away. Thank you for the video. (:
For native Germans it sounds just like "wrong" German with slight dutch accent.
That's closer to High German than Bavarian, Swabian or Swiss, though they call themself "German-speaking".
he i came from austria and we speak german here so german is my mother language do you think i could work in luxenburg and i would understand other people???? pls answer
Natielech as ais Sproch wonnerschéin! Net sou asozial wei aert Daitsch firun allem 'Hochdeutsch' klengt iwer agebild. Also io sief leiwer roueg an schwetzt keen Schaiss.
The people in Luxenburg were intelligent enough to implement their own language. Not like us, in Austria, who more and more speak like the Germans. Sometimes I just feel angry about the Saupreißn and their language
WTF no it is in Germany but it is Eifelplatt and it hast nothing to do with pälzer platt. My mother grew up in the Eifel and i know a lot about the dialects there.
Luxemburgish is a kind of of Moselfrank dialects. Like "trierer platt". While in Bittburg it is Moselfrank and Rheinish influences. But no F***ing way pältzer platt !!!!!
I gotta question. What is the MAIN language in Luxembourg? The main language that everyone speaks to eachother. Also what is the main language everyone writes in? Also, if I don't know French or German or Luxembourgish but only English and Dutch will I be totally lost?
The main language that I read was Luxumbourgish. In primary school you speak and learn luxum. junoir high (secondary school) you speak german I believe then in upper secondary school (high school) you speak french so all three are official lannguages. They write in all three languages as well as english they learn is optional. However it is good to learn a few words of the language.
@Quantumlogik We speak French and Luxembourgish but we don't speak German at all. Law is also written in French. And the offical languages are French, Luxembourgish and German. (Luxembourgish isn't a dialect!)
thank you so much for doing this lessons! Every year I'm going to letzebuerg a few times on holiday, and I now also a few of the letzebeurgesch people. and I would looove it to speak a little bith of their language! greets from holland
Hello Paul.I loved your idea. I lived in Luxembourg for a few years and have complitly forgot how to speak louxembourgish but now i have picked it up again thanks to your lessons.
We are not forcing you or other people to learn Luxembourgish; we just provide the lessons. Do bear in mind, though, that some learners of German enjoy learning other related/Germanic languages such as Dutch, Swedish, and even Luxembourgish. Similarly, some learners of Spanish also learn some Portuguese, Catalan, or even Italian.
We give you our lessons and the choice whether you want to learn Luxembourgish or not. :-)

thanks for your lessons, I learn German and it helps learning other languages similar to German. It helps you remember the German better...in lesson 1 I was thinking "Oh, that sounds just like it does in German almost"
@luxpaul Thank you for sharing this, it is very interesting. While I could see some obvious traits of German, I also see a bit of French (merci, awar) and obviously something of neither. Very informative; and much appreciated.
