  • trying to decide between a 2006 xr650l or a 2006 klr650- i have ridden both, but its been a long time- i remember the klr being pretty heavy- i will be riding 90% of the time on streets but my instincts are telling me a xr650l- can anyone give me pros vs cons THANKS

  • @linkavitchC what has been done to the bikes? the klrs have been known to have problems with the idler shaft lever (dohickey), and the xr650ls are under powered. both can be fixed. for the klr you can buy a after market part to fix it. and the xr650l you can do a daves mod and get a after market exhuast and intake. both bikes are good bikes for what you want. but if you ever plan on taking it off road the klr is just to heavy. the xr650l is 50/50 the klr is more 90/10 street to dirt.

  • @linkavitchC the klr is a cheaper bike. so if your on a budget its good to start with.also has a pretty good motor. ive known alot of people that havent had any real problems with the motor as long as change the oil when you should. the klr is also better at highway speeds. the xr650l have been known to have a bullet proof motor. thats why they cost a little more. the motor has been around since the early 80s. and is still getting put into newer bikes.

  • Love the hand guards and the fender btw.... Gives it a Baja racer look ;)

  • acerbis. its a very common supermoto fender. and it cost a little over 30

  • Nice bike, what front fender is that?

  • How much difference in oil temperatures are you seeing with the cooler set up you have?

  • well it used to get up to 280 and now it never gets over 200. i love it since i get stuck in traffic all the time and now i dont have to worry.

  • @DRugfree1987 Those are pretty good results... I had been eyeballing a transmision cooler from Summit and wondering if I could fit it to the frame, but I like the looks of yours, and it would be more protected. During the summers I had been switching to streight synthetic oil because of the engine temperature drop I have when running it, but I will not need to anymore if I make the switch.

  • I just love that old school new look pig you have got there. I have been thinking about putting an oil cooler on mine and keep putting it off. I like the looks of your set up.

  • oh and when u say 5000 pounds u really meant 50? but what do you expect its all motor. they are basicly the same bike. minus motor size, and company.they came out around the same time. but the xr has never changed.

  • really? funny becuase i had a dr350 with about 3500 miles on it. key word had. it blew up when i was doing 65 on the highway. oh what a day that was. and it doesnt need a oil cooler. i just like having it on there to extend the life of the oil. hotter the motor the shorter the life of the oil. and i also do alot of stop and go driving in the city. gotta love chicago traffic

  • @DRugfree1987 yea its not bad just make sure you got the right size hoses. and i had to cut the gray part of the shroud to let the air past through. then i put high temp tape on the plastic to stop the heat from melting anything.

  • my DR350 doesn't need an oil cooler and weighs about 5000lbs less than this pig
