I've heard this from the Thomas Crown Affair, Cellular, and most recently Sherlock, but I am proud to say that I knew this song before from being a true Nina fan. Live on! <3
Completely SHERlocked:) I've got shivers and tears everytime I listen to this magnificent song. Sherlock and John the best friends, couple and relationship of all time!:)
I first heard this one in The Thomas Crown Affair, and then in Sherlock :) It was beatiful, cuz I didnt belive this song could match in another sequence :D
seriously. i'm fed up and shocked at humanity. I come on youtube and I see and hear tremendous things. Songs and videos which are in a class of their own. Such as this video. And I am not alone in holding this view, after all over 13000 people seem to agree. What i will never understand however, are the 107 people who press dislike. Do you do it to be a pain? or do you lack culture? Or maybe a soul? Who can listen to that and press dislike? To think i probably pass ppl like that on the street.
POWERFUL i was only accusgomed to her jazzy side this is amazing she is an artist of great depth thank god for utube i have discovered great treasures
For a while now Nina has been the largest inspiration of my life. I cannot begin to tell you how much of a powerful woman and how incredibly talented she was. When I heard this on Sherlock I started crying because it was the least expected thing to hear on the soundtrack, and yet it fit so well and was absolutely perfect. Sherlockians, I beg you to please do a little research on Nina and discover the amazing person that she was.
@sijomigadjura I find it amazing that a) you don't know who Sherlock is and b) you managed to spell it wrong despite the fact that you have seen it spelt correctly on every comment mentioning his name.
@sijomigadjura Sherlock. The TV series. Modern take on Sherlock Holmes. Have a look on BBC iplayer series two episodes 1 and 3 then you'll understand why people are saying they are SHERLOCKED! (p.s. watch ALL of them if you can they're great!!)
I remember hearing this song years ago on Scrubs, and I had heard it elsewhere before and since then, and I've always loved the bits that I heard, but for some reason I never knew the name or who it was by. Hearing it in the Sherlock finale finally got me to finally looking it up. I feel pretty silly not knowing it was Nina Simone! It's such an AMAZING song!
Does it really matter how you become aware of something amazing? We're not born knowing about all the best things in life, but once we hear them, we do have the power to discern that they are in fact excellent.
This was ON the new CBS show "Person of Interest" over a month ago..... if you go back you will find comments in December....Nina wrote this song in 1965, and it was based on a Spiritual written in the early 1900s. Musician(s) Nina Simone (piano, vocals, arrangement), Al Schackman (guitar, harmonica), Rudy Stevenson (guitar, flute), Lisle Atkinson (bass), Bobby Hamilton (drums), Album-Pastel Blues, Year-1965, Label-Philips Records, Producer-Hal Mooney
This was used poorly in Sherlock, almost identical to how it was used in Thomas Crown Affair. You can not use it in a heist in the exact same fashion. I adore this song, but Sherlock lacked originality by choosing this very song for an almost identical scene. Any way thank you Miss Simone for the music...POWER!!!
@StylishMrGordon It wasn't used in a heist scene in Sherlock. It was used as Sherlock and John are heading to Moriarty's trial. I thought it was very well used in that scene and quite symbolic given the connotations of the particular Holmes story being adapted.
@joneswe01 I stand corrected in that case. It was used in Sherlock when Moriarty was captured by the authorities just after the heist. It was used in Thomas Crown when TC was being pursued by the authorities during the heist. I
@joneswe01 believe that to be very similar (but I do stand corrected on my original statement). It’s funny that many slept on Nina Simone when she was alive and it took Thomas Crown / Sherlock Holmes to remind many of what an amazing body of work she had and how her music was often a result of an oppressive system bestowed upon her and her people (I think that is symbolic).

I loved Nina Simone since I saw the Thomas Crown Affair. My love has only grown since then, and has solidified with Sherlock. Bless you High Priestess of Soul.
@MartyFunkhouser00 don't get me wrong please, i said "awkward moment" because I felt embarassed when I learned that Sinnerman is her song, I should have known it. I love her and her songs, I didn't mean to say anything bad.
@TheValkyrie0 No worries, thanks for clearing it up. :) Not that I think the hordes of thumbsup merchants knew what you were getting at though. Peace.
@TheValkyrie0 Why would it would be an awkward moment? There is nothing embarrassing about Nina Simone. She is a legendary artist. When I saw the BBC Sherlock preview using one of my fave tunes "Sinnerman", I thought it was a stroke of (further) genius from that fantastic series. Worked even better in the context of the actual episode. Anyway, it has brought Nina's music to those who were not aware of it before, so it's all good. The woman is a Goddess. Listen and be enthralled.
