Thanks!! I don't have tabs, but last summer I did the "How & Why" Parts 1 & 2 - Part 2 goes step-by-step thru the 1st verse. I REALLY intend to finish the instructional series this week! Really!
There is a published folio for Guitar (6-string regular) TAB. I have done 2 parts of a "How & Why" series which so far, goes thru the 1st verse, and I DO demonstrate and and mention fret positions, pretty much step-by-step. I have started Part 3 several times, but keep getting interrupted & side-tracked. Watch the 1st two & I'll try to get Part 3 done before the year's over.
Nothing to forgive. This is probably one of those "Blessings in Disguise": I was already aware of Bobby McFerrin, own several of his CDs. Now I got to learn of Sheila K. Hughes & her fabulous band, and so will others.
The copyright folks are just doing their job protecting McFerrin's income: "Roomba's with Numbas". Even if Bobby said "sure, no problem" there'd be a bunch of paperwork & some bean counter would grumble.
I am a uke player who has been wanting to try out its 4 string big brother for a long time to augment my uke playing....... This has made up my mind to go pick up that beautiful HUGE acoustic bass in the neighborhood music store tomorrow. Thanks man! That truly rocked!
The Kaman Applause I use here is a short-scale neck (30 inches nut to bridge) - you might look into that if you're used to uke. The smaller size is great for chords. More portable, too. A long-scale neck (most common, I think) can be a stretch - my 5-string fretlesses are LS (34"). My 6-str has adjustable bridges, c. 35".
Tell your music store dudes to PM me & I'll let 'em know where to send my commission check.
Hah! I live in China, so my music store guys on speak putonghua! (mandarin) Hows your Chinese? However, I was in the shop today and they got a sweet ass acoustic electric hybrid which is a dead ringer (knock off) of a Ovation acoustic bass.... May just go pick it up! keep rocking brother... Loving it!
Don't rule out collaboration - I've just started a project with jdjustice - a fine singer/keyboardist in N. Carolina. We're going to attempt a vocal duet to a music track I recorded years ago. It'll be neat to see how it goes.
Robert, how beautiful. Recently, I purchased a lovely Fender acoustic bass, after many years of electric... I'm in love with it. Interestingly, Goodbye Blue Sky was the first song I played on it, although my version is nowhere near as rich and layered as your version. I have been SEARCHING youtube for such brilliant examples of acoustic bass playing, so that I can listen and learn the potentials of this instrument. I do hope you do more!!
WOW! Thanks very much! I've been tinkering with tis arrangement for years - I know I didn't use the Drop-D when I 1st played the song, but it sure adds a lush bottom.
Check out some of the clips in the "Related Videos" & keep doing that - there's a lot of good players out there. You can spend a great afternoon watching & learning.
Yes, I've always felt that Drop-D adds 'the' depth and resonating element that would otherwise be missing... definate lush bottom. My sincere hope is that you will do a live post of this version. I would love to spend my 'great afternoon' watching and learning your version [with all due credit, of course]! There are definately excellent acoustic bass players out there in Youtube land, and I'm enjoying their work and learning so much, but your piece is brilliant; class of it's own.
This is simply fantastic! I love the sound of acoustic basses - they have a "colour" and tonal quality that is quite unique - on the strength of this video you get subbed!
Thanks for the mail and sending me this little gem.
Well, THANK YOU very much for that wonderful comment!! I hope to post a few more covers w/ acoustic bass guitars - probably a "live" video version of this song, and a few more using my Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5-string Fretless.
I just got a $30 web-cam, so I may post a "live" version (once i install & figure out the basics). I've had friends ask how many overdubs I did: none - this is one person with one 4-string bass that can double as a drum.
Hi, this is Roger Waters, you're under arrest! :) Great playing Basso and very nice photography, great idea for a Youtube bass vid ... 5*****s on this one ...
Hee-hee! I actually set up an online account w Warner-Chappell Music & submitted a request months ago. Either it was lost in the shuffle or they didn't care one way or t'other. I'll gladly send 100% of this vid's gross profits to the Memorial Fund for Disaster Relief.
Thanks you so much! This is not my "original" song. It was written by Roger Waters, the former bass player for Pink Floyd. But if Roger doesn't mind my video (and he hasn't said anything to me about it), I bet he'd be OK with you dancing to my version of his song, too.
Thanks!! It continues to evolve after several years, and is still evolving. the harmonics intro was just level & tuning check, but I liked it as a prelude, ala Yes' "And You & I". The harmonics interlude before finale verse was originally just octaves - a hint of "Goodbye Cruel World".... but then I started listening to Victor Wooten....
It did take me a while, but if I can keep my momentum, I may have another run like my 1st month: I've got 2 songs waiting in the wings (i.e., ideas bouncing around my brain).
Merci^^
