Abolishing slavery? The Bible actually encourages and endorses slavery. And during the slave times in America, slave-owners were actually known to twist quotes from the Bible in order to try and make them think that them being slave was God's will. Not saying that all Christians must love slavery or anything like that, but saying that their faith was mainly responsible for abolishing it is quite inaccurate.
From the editorial, "It was religious faith that inspired the abolition movement against slavery and it was Martin Luther King Jr.’s faith as a Baptist preacher that emboldened him to lead the Civil Rights movement."
Ironically, if it weren't for faith, these things wouldn't even be necessary considering it was faith that CAUSED slavery and reduction of civil rights. Solve the problem you created and call yourself a hero? I'm sorry. It doesn't work that way.
Look. I'm a christian. I have not decided what type I am, but I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and God. There is no evidence that there is God, or a god, for that matter, or that there is Jesus Christ. Call me an idiot, But I believe that.
You believe in evolution.
You (anybody) choose to believe that. There is no evidence to prove evolution. I choose to believe in God, you in Evolution.
Anybody who says the Science is settled, is no scientist.
God told Abraham to sacrafice his son To show what he was going to do to save the world. Jesus is Gods Son. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. That whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. God showed the isrealites repeatedly what he was going to do. And yes Abraham believed God so it was counted to him as ritghousness.
You completely failed to point out that Christianity is the CAUSE of the dark ages and not some mechanism for preserving culture through them. You also forgot to point out that the celebration of the winter solstice predates Christianity.
Your atheistic state analogy is false on the pretense that her editorial piece is not an example of government encroachment on the freedom of expression, whereas your question is. Furthermore, nonreligious holidays are secular, not atheistic, so she's absolutely correct in saying that atheists have no holidays, however banal of a statement it is.
There are three models of Government competing for world domination:
(1) Communist / atheist: where government officials decide and dole out your temporal rights if any
(2) Sharia Law: where the Qu'ron governs
(3) Judeo-Christian model, where God grants our rights & liberties and THEREFORE they are unalienable, power resides in we the people, we are sovereign and the government is our servant.
Angie Vogt is a week-minded troglodyte. Don't waste your time, dude. She'll be dead in a few decades and her religion will die a couple hundred years after that. Be patient.
Jesus H. Christ, this kid is frigging brilliant. His or her (I'm pretty sure it's a dude) ability to communicate makes the average person look like a trout.
there is no such thing as hate speech, there is just speech. anyone who claims hate speech is simple against speech in general. it is not a real law and should not be tolerated. you can not bypass the constitution.
if hate speech is a crime, then should people get rewards for love speech, or how about apathetic speech or indifferent speech. what should be the punishment for humorous speech.
For some reason I get the very strong impression that you may blow up a building one day. I'm sure your intentions in blowing up a building will be compelling, but I hope that just before you blow it up you think about whether or not the ends really do justify the means.
for some reason I get the very strong impression that you are a fucking idiot, haha. it's funny that a reasoned and logical rebuttal of nonsense strikes you as something to be fearful of.
Your face, hair and style of speaking remind me of Jeff Goldblum from "The Fly". With that said, ripping good video. Unfortunately, the people who NEED to see it probably won't bother watching until the end.
I can totally see the Jeff Goldblum resemblance! Which is a good thing, everyone likes Goldblum and he comes across as intelligent with his acting style.
Another point: the reason that the Religious-based charities tend to be more successful is because they are the only group that has a leg to stand on from an economic standpoint. Missin trips allow them to provide aid while spreading their doctrine; an atheist charity is simply providing aid, and thus does not benefit except for whatever gain comes from providing the aid itself. This does not mean I agree with the Christian viewpoint, just that I can see why they are successful such ventures.
Good choice. I figured I'd just wing it for some of my early videos, and I ended up re-recording a hundred billion times (after which, of course, I decided to come up with some scripts).

@aintnohollabackgrrl "Furthermore, nonreligious holidays are secular, not atheistic"
How does it logically follow from that, that atheists "have no holidays"?

You actually think 9/11 was done because of religion? It was obviously the governments doing to scare people into getting RFID tracking chips.

holidays that aren't religious aren't atheist... they are secular because they have nothing to do with religion.

Yes, that's the trouble with smart people -- they're great at coming up with reasons to justify pretty much anything.
