  • Huh, that Steamboat is the best Ryu cosplay I have seen so far

  • CHEEEEEEESE! LOL the karate kid and shit..man cheesy as hell..

  • Ricky is the most talented professional wrestler ever to enter a ring...IMO

  • @Sarge4419 stone cold you mean

  • I wouldn't say this is th egreatest match ever, but definitely in my Top 5,and Steamboat happens to be in 2 of those with Ric Flair. They both had umpteen house matches so I'm only basing this on the PPV matches I had seen from '89.

  • This match has been so influential that both Chris Jericho & another one of his friends re-enacted the entire match in his basement.

  • These two delivered what is arguably one of the greatest matches of all time. The referee getting up and down so many times from making a 2 count. Wrestlemania 3 is still the one wrestlemania in my mind that stands out to me the most to this day. Plus the much anticipated match between Hulk and Andre. 93,173 fans. UNBELIEVABLE!

  • do u know how to get him in a game called legends of wrestle mania?

  • one of the greatest matches of all time. these 2 were great wrestlers.

not on the same level as the 'Hitman' though

  • classic, classic.

  • im 22 and until now i thought hbk y2j at mania 19 was the best ever but this blows it away

  • Such an incredible match. These two had ill chemistry in the ring. The stock of Wrestlers today couldn't do a quarter of what Steamboat and Savage did on that night through their whole careers.

They stole the show that night.

  • i'm 38 years old & i remember this match when it happened. it's still the best match i've ever seen, and i'm a ric flair fan.

  • Saw this when I was little, never forgot the wheelie carts.

  • "...Look Out, Pearl Harbor-Job from the Outside!..."

  • Savage took on all comers.........

  • Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse the Body = GOAT wrestling announcers...

  • savage was the best wrestler in the world at this time

  • this is when wrestling was good it looked real....now its so fake looking you can see that they dont even hit each other now

  • to bad wrestling is nothing like it was in the old days. back in these days they put effort into wrestling now you can tell they dont even hit each other.....and its all just show now its harder to get into

  • macho man was the best wwe wrestler

  • Macho has alot of ring saavy, l like that.

  • My Teacher recommended this hahah MR.C!

  • Ricky Is Tha Greatest Worker That Ever Stepped Foot In Tha Ring..

  • Best match in the history of WWF/WWE? Taker/Michaels Mania 25 and many other 1 on 1 matches beats this easily! Still a damn good match.

  • @DerFlaechenbomber

i dunno about wwe/f history but the best wrestlemania match is hogan warrior . u had to watch it live tho to know that

  • aint the same without alan parsons project

  • @CHANGO21 Amen brother. I guess the WWE lost their rights to use it.

  • I've heard of this match since I was a boy. I am not disappointed. Steamboat was awesome. Macho is a legend and the color commentary is great

  • ANOTHER classic match at the silverdome, historyh made this night. 92 thousand people!

  • One thing (among many) wrestling is missing today is great announcers. Ventura, Monsoon, Heenan, Lawler (before PG era), and even Vince was better than all these guys today.

  • i agree. The announcers the WWE has add no excitement to the matches.Vince and Ventura were my favs.Good guy bad guy always made me giggle. Helps having announcers that actually wrestled b4

  • steam armdrag+macho elbow off ropes. no-one better!

  • This is a time in wrestling when wrestlers were not afraid to work stiff. That running elbow by savage against the dragon's face was very stiff, no way that was fake!!

  • ricky steamboat is truly the master of the armdrag

  • It wasn't until I watched the Ricky Steamboat DVD the other night that I honestly noticed how artistic he was with his armdrags.

  • OOOOOOOOH YEEEEEEEEAH!!!! DIG IT!!! YEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent match by two excellent athletic competitors!

This match was better than the matches between Hulk and Macho Man. Ricky Steamboat was a true tactician in the ring.

Jesse "the Body" Ventura= One of the best "heel" commentators of all time!

  • I heard that there were 200 moves scripted to be done and i don't know but Steamboat says that every move was done. Truly great match.

Comparing it to todays matches where there are less then 50 moves in a match (and they are not shorter) would be insulting to this match and both Steamboat and Macho man.

  • The beauty of it all is that this match wasn't expected to steal the show, although most purists knew even then that it would be nothing short of a 5 star match.

  • This match topped wrestlemania 3. One of the greatest matches ever. This is when wrestling was still entertaining. It wasn't a soap opera with 3 moves and a finisher.

  • I remember watching this when I was a little kid. That's when "pro" wrestling was entertaining! Nowadays there is no character development and the same crap always seems to happen.

  • Best Match Ever!!!

  • first time i ever seen this match

  • ricky is an amazing athlete, hes got more moves then some of the wwe superstars today

  • One of the greatest matches in wrestling history and I miss the body doing the commentary!

  • what an epic match

  • The old school stuff is always the best. I hate all the showinees.

  • Man, it's so tacky how the WWE dubs in different theme songs because they don't want to pay the licensing fees to put the real songs on their DVDs.

I bought WM3 on VHS and I'd rather have the slightly reduced picture quality than the crap they release on DVD now.

  • this is back in the day when you got hit in the head with a chair you REALY got hit in the head with a chair

  • Does anybody know the song they play when Steamboat enters?

  • That wasn't the original music? If not, it should've been. I liked it.

  • They also retconned the audience reaction. I don't know why since it was superb. It sounds muffled in this version.

  • I'm sure I already commented on this once, but I have to say again: these two were in amazing shape to put this match on.

  • I am not denying this is a good match, but I think a lot of people claim this is the greatest match of all time is because many others view it as one, and its easy to jump on the sheep bandwagon. I am glad they kept the commentary for this match but its a shame they fucked the music up. Reminds me of Ted Turner turning classics to color.

  • What music did they change? Steamboats?

  • they change whatever they don't have the copyright to as long as they don't think it would insult the fan's intelligence. I don't think they change Hogan's theme from back in the day, but I could be wrong. Steamboat's theme wasn't memorable unless you were there, then it's a glaring case of retcon.

  • Actually, yes.Hogan's theme was altered frm an AWA match I watched with Nick Bockwinkel.Real American was played in place of Eye of The Tiger in many of his early-'84 WWF matches as well.

  • steamboat vs savage the greatest match in wwf history , but steamboat vs flair was even better the best match in history

  • best match ever

  • steamboat vs flair was better

  • Agreed.

  • this is before honky ruled

the greatest ic of all time

    he said so himself

    therefor it must be true

  • Why isnt Hefner counting??? man i love this stuff.jesse and guerilla rock

  • maybe calm it down there, champ

  • Comment removed

  • hey loser go bother somebody else. im having fun. you have time to waist in your life writing others in a negative way. so champ you know what you can go do now right ?? ???? ???????? .lol

  • is it just me, or does it sound like the intro music is a varietion of the blade runner theme?

  • Best match ever......you bet.

  • Gorilla Monsoon should be on my answering Machine. He's the greatest.

  • Yes best match ever.

  • The most exciting, memorable, the best wrestling match ever.

  • This was the most awesome Wrestlemania ever. This was an amazing match. Arguably the best ever. Hats off to both of those guys. Great performance

  • Best match ever!

  • DIG IT !!!!!!!!

  • why isn't any of these guys in legends of wrestlemania

  • They had to save some names for LOW 2

  • Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection JUNE 9TH, 2009!!!

    I'm Getting It!!!

About time Vince you let the bad blood go for once for the fans!

  • That's a weird statement considering Savage is perhaps the only person, well and a few others, completely blacklisted from Vince's company. He has let bad blood go many times for the fans, i.e. Warrior, Hogan, Nash & Hall, and Bischoff.

  • I think Macho has to be the worse out of all of them.

Macho took Stephanie's virginity when she was 15.

  • She asked for it though ....

  • how do you know that as fact

  • That's an urban legend.

  • well its not an urban legen that he isnt on the egends game

  • I have heard that one b4.... but i doubt it....

  • If that is true, then that explains why him and McMahon never mended fences, even professionally. The Randy Savage 3 DVD set was a sure cash cow for WWE because of his fans and that's why Vinnie Mac released it.

  • how about May 5th 2009, tomorrow. They pushed it up

  • This is true... Vince has forgiven alot of people for whatever reason, he won't forgive Macho, and it's a shame.

  • Randy Savage "walked" on Vince and went to WCW while still under contract to WWF/WWE. Vince sued, but Bischoff paid the bill with Ted Turner money.

  • They need to bring back the wrestler cart....I miss that little motorized ring

  • the way steamboat handled himself at wm25 was fucking amazing. i couldn't believe he still got it after all those years. the current stars have absolutely nothing on him. cena, batista, watch and learn from a true legend. can't believe guys like him and hennig never got wwe title. fucking politics.

  • i was there to see jericho vs steamboat at wwe backlash .. AMAZING!

  • It was amazing.. shame he didn't win though.. :(

  • Steamboat surprised the hell out of everyone when he got the tag from Snuka and leaped to the top rope and proceed to kick ass. I remember my friends and I said "whoa" together when he was still able to perform at that level.

  • A shame The Dragon was never able to make it on the top of the WWF Food Chain at the time.

The WWF was too much "entertainment" orientated while he was a no non sense character and performer.

The NWA and then WCW were just that, "wrestling" orientated fed which push as great main eventer and his feud with the nature boy and also the late Rick Rude are legendaries.

I don't think this match is the "best ever" , it's among "the best matches ever", I don t rate one match above anyone else

  • @LiveForMyMoment What do you expect when you have Hulk Hogan pulling Vinnie Mac's strings?Hogan created a glass ceiling for mid-card talent even during his first WWE stint.

  • This match is just amazing for it's time. Steamboat vs. Savage, Perfect vs. Bret Hart, these were the matches that truly made pro-wrestling.

  • Best...Match...Ever

  • sounds like Rorschach

  • CO-SIGN...BEST MATCH EVER!!!!

  • Why don't we have the little mini rings carrying people to the match anymore? Those things were so awesome!

  • cause vince prefers spending his money on Kid Crap for 20 minutes of pure shit

  • hitman v bulldog at wembley was as good as this one. This is a timeless bout though

  • Comment removed

  • Lmfao! Steamboat has got in the ring twice at what 65 or something. Everytime he's got in there, he has me giggling because he actually kinda still has it. I didn't expect to start leaping around. You can tell when athletes don't have it anymore because you saw Snuka. He obviously didn't belong in there. I was beginning to get worried about him when Jericho had him in his finisher but Snuka impressed me. He even generated a fan response yesterday of 'you still have it' in the All-Star tag match

  • he is 56 man and yes he got a bigger response than HHH winning the title, how ironic is this ?

  • Lmfao! Fans love irony. They hate the same ole' same ole' Triple H always being in the spotlight. The irony of Ricky Steamboat performing like that at his age is grabs my attention, not HHH consistently in the spotlight. Haha! That's probably why

  • its because Ricky imho, was all around a better wrestler than HHH and wrestling fans know this.

  • you're obviously dumb cause I mocking HHH saying so and all the wrestling fans with a brain know this.

  • if all the wrestling fans are as smart as you the world is in trouble. "cause i mocking" beeyatch

  • if stupidity would kill you would be already dead, biatch

  • hey at least I know how to speak english

  • Your english is definitively worse than my italian bitch

  • Dude, seriously your comments stopped making sense long ago. I give up, you can continue your immature behaviour and Im not gonna bother cos you sound like you're just a kid.

  • Dude you've messed up with me I ve murdered you to the highest degree, I've made a fool out of you and you're sounding like a real tool.

Next time you try to argue with someone to big and huge for you, shut the hell up and go fuck yourself , cause you were born a loser and you will die a loser.

LFMM 3 16 SAYS I've just whooped your has been maldinian ass To DEATH Bitch

  • this match is even better than Kurt Angle VS. Shawn Michaels

  • It's very, very close. Both are probably in the top 5 best matches ever. Too close to call IMO.

  • Best Intercontinental Championship Match Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The camera shot at around the 2:00 mark, ring level....I miss that. Even though the wrestling was less brutal back then, and not as hard hitting...it actually seemed more realistic from a production point of view. Vince..I know you stopped trying to insult the intelligence of the fans...but please bring these days back!!!

  • Посмотрите Bushido намного интереснее!

  • the glory days of wrestling!!!! cause todays product is GARBAGE!!!! oh, forgot to mention how much cena sucks..... and i'm sick of seeing a 12 rounds commercial EVERY commercial break!!!!

  • TNA is garbage

  • metsfan784...I am tired of people saying Cena sucks...Have you noticed lately how Cena is getting a bigger pop every week thats because he has gotten much better in the ring.

  • he's gotten better and with his charisma you have to give the man credit but he is NOTHING compared to steamboat

  • Comment removed

  • This is back when titles in the WWE actually ment something.

  • dave hebner?? i always thought it was erald hebner am i wrong?

  • His bro

  • this match here, was voted the greatest wwe/wwf wrestling match in history,of all time!!! man i remember this match as a kid and i was like WOW! im 28 now and i can see why it was voted the greatest wrestling match in wwe/wwf history...damn good match!

  • I think Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho Wrestlemania 19 was a good bout in comparison to this one.

  • When was the last time we've seen such heated comp. for IC Title?

  • Yeah man you're right. In the 80s and 90s the IC title was WORTH something. It was the belt that said "Someday I'll be World champion because this title makes me that damn good" but now its like whatever. I'm surprised it hasn't been phased out.

  • monsoon and ventura were better than jr and the king

  • I'd rather Monsoon and Heenan, but you're right.

  • I was watching the match where Savage took the bell, and smashed Steamboats throat. Really thought that was the end of Steamboat's career. Both of these guys were great wrestlers.

  • Steamboat's theme was played (for the first time I believe) during Macho Man's title defense against Animal Steele on 1/3/87- Saturday Night's Main Event ...when the Dragon came out during that match!

  • A true classic, who could ever forget this as Steamboat heads to the Hall Of Fame at WM 25.

  • thanks for posting this i been looking for it

  • he is one of the 8 unlock character

  • Hmm I don't remember The Dragon having an entrance theme on this ppv.

  • he had the theme "sirius" by the alan parsons project. it was just such a low recorded theme in the studio itself by parsons and his band, the roar of 93 thousand drowned it out mostly.

  • I think Flair v Macho Man at WM VIII is better than this match. Not only was it a great match, but the story of Flair having Liz's photo and the title and Macho trying to defend his woman is perfect. Not to mention Monsoon and The Brain were amazing on commentary.

Gives me chills just thinking about the crowd pop for Macho's entrance....Epic.

  • I was at the WM 8 match with Flair and Savage and awesome as it was to see live. Not as good as this too much happening and interference in the Savage/Flair match. Except for one instance with George Steele this match was a one on one classic. Savage won the Flair match also by grabbing the tites and cheating as a FACE!

  • Wrestling hasn't been the same since Jesse Ventura left.

  • I agree with the person who posted this video defintely my favorite WM match of all time. There is only one other techincal match that I could put up there with this and that is WM 10's 1st match Bret vs Owen.

  • nah owen vs 123 kid king of the ring

  • Anyone seen that match where Macho Man drove a bell into the throat of Ricky and forever scarring my precious six year old mind?

    I think I was six...

    I kinda blacked out..........

  • I felt the same way I was really disturbed after I saw that

  • Gonna have to disagree with you.

Andre was in horrible pain the whole match with his back, Hogan couldn't work a good match with anyone. Steamboat and Savage were both in their prime and both amazingly good workers. To each their own.

  • Yes andre was in pain, but he still managed to stand up and look like he was the better man.

And hogan was a great worker in his matches in AWA and japan, and also in his match against the ultimate warrior.

  • Agreed 100%. These two guys were the best in the biz, and Hogan was not really working at this point. Andre could not work, so it's not his fault. Savage/Steamboat was an all-time classic and one of the best WrestleMania matches ever. I say it is the best.

  • Steamboat is one of the most under-rated wrestlers of all time. If you have seen this match and the matches he had with Flair, you'd understand.

  • Ricky Steamboat will FINALLY be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year! Go Dragon!

  • short and sweet.... this is true wrestling. a story told inside the ring!

  • I remember watching Ricky Steamboat in the 80's when I was a kid, & just now I thought "Hey, I didn't realize that Ricky was dressed up as Ryu from the Street Fighter arcade games." Then I looked it up and Ricky started being called "The Dragon" and wearing a Karate gi way back in 1985, and the first Street Fighter game didn't come out until 1987. So did Capcom copy Ricky with their Ryu character? With the white gi and red headband he looks just like him, & Ryu is the Japanese word for Dragon!

  • I got the original match on VHS. Hopefully early next year I can post this on Youtube for all the WWF fans on here and around the world.

  • The old Sliverdome. It still stands today.

  • too bad that edited out ricky's original music and substituted with this cheap stuff. but when it comes to cheap, there you have vince mcmaggot-er mcmahon

  • he tried to steal bruce lees thunder

  • This DRAGON IS GONNA SCORCH YOUR BACK!!

  • Good match. I dont know about best ever. Malenko vs Guererro ECW, is a classic. This match had good psychology. In order to declare the greatest match, you need to broaden your scope of the business ie. psychology, technicality, execution, working the crowd. Also, if you want to see some great matches, watch the Super J Cup. If you are a true wrestling fan, not just a wwe mark, you will appreciate it.

  • I recall my sister and I being in the 4th row. That was my birthday present and she took me there to see this great match!!

  • Pretty good seats. It has been a while since i was at an event, and was able to actually sit down and enjoy a show. Do you guys follow any indy wrestling or just WWE. There is so much more out there. Try Ring of Honor, New Jersey All Pro, Hybrid, Velocity Pro, Maryland Chamionship, just to name a few. Feel free to email me and talk wrestling. I will give you my opionions from being on the inside of the business.

  • this match was the best ever, as you don't have to be a wrestling mark(or a wanna-be wrestling anaylist)to realize that

  • Flair/Steamboat 3 ppv matches were all better. This was a 4 3/4 match Flair were all 5 stars.

  • well flair was a little better worker then savage(again, a little)so that is why flair/steamboat wasa bit better. unfortunately, the flair/steamboat matches had to come with the self-righteous commentary of good ol' jim ross

  • Flair was more than just a little better. At this time savage was working maybe 180 dates a year Flair was doing 380 matches a year.
