  • Ordered on Amazon today, so excited!!

  • Great film!:)

  • awesome trailer, what a rush of adrenaline. where can I see or download this???

  • It's like a Broadway Hoop Dreams... One of the best documentaries ever mad.

  • Why are you guys arguing about this, can't you both just agree to disagree, not everbody is going to love Wicked or even like it (I. for one love it quite a bit), it's not really worth debating on here

  • If I look over to my right this DVD's on the floor right next to me!

And seeing Idina...*sigh* Love that woman! The Tony was rightfully hers! I'm proud to call myself her fan!

    Again, GREAT DVD! BUY IT!

It gives great insight into creating Broadway shows and little quirky bits and bobs make it really interesting.

Was a tad annoyed by its slight tendancy to brush Wicked off as not quite as "legitimate" as some others because of its budget. Onlty hinted at it but still...

  • FranBMan and I are sorry to (or at least I) have to state that the people who decide the winners for the Tony awards are not teenage boys who like swearing. They must be at least in their late 30s. Besides avenue q wasn't based on a book, it isn't derived from some film, it isn't a sequel to a more famous musical that hoped to achieve the same success. It was constructed by the everyday, down on his luck, Americans that you see at the store; Guys who worked hard (cast included)and deserved it.

  • Avenue Q was AMAZINGLY entertaining, Ive seen it 2ce, bt Im sorry I jst dont think it captured the same inspirational quality Wicked managed. Wicked changed lives and gave hope to so many! Not to mention the technicality of the music and layers, AMAZING! Avenue Q couldnt hope to achieve that kind of score!

Great musical, sweet guys and story, but I can't help but be a cynic and play with the idea the writers story and the "cool" factor won it the Tony. N the Tony people wanting to b "different"

  • How does wicked differ from Caroline or change or Taboo with life changing quality? Wicked dealt with friendship, betrayal, and being true to yourself. I could have learned that from a nickelodeon TV special. What makes it different from High School Musical besides setting? I find H.S.M. completely mediocre and all I can think to say nicely about wicked is its production. But I'm just preaching my opinion; prove me wrong and give me some good reasons that would earn the tony for best musical

  • Racism-political corruption-animal/human rights-political outcasts-media influence-the nature of good and evil.

And the idea of empowering women who have been through so much. Of seeing beauty in the strangest of places.

It gave me personally a hope and passion I never believed I was worthy for. I went into it thinking it'd be crap. Honestly!

    And it changed my life.

You can think I'm one of these tweeney boppers but I know my stuff too, and Wicked is worth it!

  • Now I think that is why I didn't like Wicked; it altered too many things,I found myself thinking that the backgrounds of characters didn't match. When I saw it all I could say that was tributary in regards to the Wizard of OZ was the names. Also I rolled my eyes at Elphaba's excuse for motivation to stop the Wizard; animal rights, are you kidding me? Plus with the budget they had there was no room for excuses. I have sentiment with Ben when he said he found it preachy. But again, it's my opinion

  • But it's not based on the film..it's based on WICKED...It's a TOTALLY different Oz world, one for grown-ups.

And the Animal rights was not the only thing, political injustices in general, racism, etc.

And preachy? It is clear throughout that Elphaba is not just this self-riteous heroine, she has flaws like us all..."tragic" flaws you could say in literature. Not to mention "No Good Deed" where she starts to accept her "Wicked" status.

    It's a comment on society, and humanity. And a v subtle 1

  • its awsome how they hide there mic. lolits on her heaed there is a lil mic hanging down u cant realy see it but i wacthed it in school and i saw it

  • Actually, the reason people like it, teenage boys or no, is because it's about life right now, not life in some far off, mystical, unatainable place.

  • Avenue Q happens to deal with love, racism, sex, coming-out, dealing with life after university and homelesness, to name a few of its themes. If you're narrow minded enough not to look past the "curse words" then I feel sorry for you.

  • I have a real problem with how Wicked fans can't accept that Avenue Q won the Tony. It won because it was a better show. And give me all the thumbs downs you like, it doesn't make it less true.

  • Avenue Q is a great show, it's cute and funny, and people love it. Wicked is now the biggest show on Broadway, with productions all over the world. Wicked deserved to win, because it's great. It had an amazing cast, amazing costumes, amazing music and so on. Wicked appeals to a much larger audience.

  • Avenue Q is about real life. Wicked is a fantasy. And not a very good one at that.

  • Wicked deals a lot with real life, it deals with friendship, love, loss, anger, jealousy, power, evil, goodness, beauty, racism. All things you see in the world and in your own life. Who cares if it's set in another world. Avenue Q is puppets, have u ever seen puppets walking around?

  • What an unbelievably simplistic remark.

  • I thought it was rather insightful. kwanyin233 was merely stating that there is just as much fantasy in Av Q as in Wicked...

    Which is unbelievably true.

I enjoyed Avenue Q, but it didn't change my life at all, it provided me with 2 hours (well...4 really seeing it 2ce) of fun and laughter.

    Wicked changed my life.

  • You're entitled to your opinion. I just found the subject matter dealt with in Avenue Q managed to be raw, relevent and dealt with wittily and insightfully.

Wicked, to me, was all style no substance. A terrible script and a mediocre score.

  • That's what pisses me off...If Wicked had been given 1/3 the budget with the same songs and cast and writing, I bet you critics would have lapped it up!

I have never heard a score with such emotion and depth, such singable yet deep lyrics and songs.

I have never been moved like I was when Elphaba flew. It gives me hope and belief in a future that is relvant.

I love AvQ, really do. And I like how it stays a legitimate musical, but the score simply didn't have the depth.

  • You're right, the critics would have been kinder to Wicked. But that is the critic's point. To them, I'm guessing, they see a musical that could have been so much more. They probably saw something that had gone to waste, and they wanted something that would testify their money as being well spent. I just want to know where all that money had gone. The creators wouldn't have spent the majority all on set, would they? The critics, I assume, were looking for something more in it, as I looked.

  • But the depth is rediculous...I've never listened to a score with so much depth. I've never seen more "real" characters come out of the 2 leads...

I think the critics saw the budget figures and wrote it off as being "deep" - their comments show they clearly didn't look very far into the plot...

Wicked fans get labelled as kids with dreams, but it has so much more to it, politically, satirically, emotionally and musically

  • I just can't see this depth your talking about. As someone has commented before, the music wasn't bad but the lyrics were unmoving. As I figured before, the critics probably felt like they didn't get all that could have become of Wicked. Also the score, to me at least, isn't distinguishing. Those songs just aren't easily remembered or catchy. The only song I could honestly say I liked was Loathing. But whatever, I will quit trying to sway you. Obviously I'm not getting through.

  • The score-"Unlimited" is somewhere over the rainbow! And Elphaba's themes are awesome! And Defying Gravity's the most empowering theatrical experience Iv eva had. The lyrics reached out to me too, the loneliness you can feel, empowering moments, and "for good" reminds me of what I might say to my best friend. To me Scwartz lyrics are very honest.

It's literally changed countless lives. If I'm ever successful it will be partly from Wicked.

Oh well, thanks for the debate anyway, I enjoyed it :-D

  • Sorry, but Avenue Q is incredibly, incredibly moving.

  • saw this movie @ tribeca. really captured the season beautifully. such a good movie. u should get it on amazon if u havent seen it yet

  • Ohh wow! How is this really a movie? These are 4 of the shows I SOOOO want to see. (I have seen Wicked now on tour) But I can't believe there is a movie about all 4 shows I want so see.

  • WICKED WICKED WICKED!!!!! Wicked should have won the Tony!!!!!

  • I LOVE IDINA AND KRISTIN!!

  • eeh, someone hit the wrong note? thats harsh!

  • this is what i think:

    avenue q has it's place.

    wicked has it's place.

    etc. etc. etc.

avenue q is not meant to have a huge moral point. it has hugely strong statements that it makes about society.

wicked is a pretty huge contrast to ave q.

they're completely different and should be appreciated in different ways. that's how i handle it, at least.

i love them both and many others in different ways. they all have their place.

  • Ave. Q is NOTHING compared to Tony Kushner and Tony Pinkins or Taboo/Euan and Raúl. I cannot believe Ave. Q swept the Tony's. Yuck.

  • Though Wicked and Avenue Q are great (along with Caroline or Change), Taboo is up there along with the others. The production of it is amazing. The costumes, the music, and the actors are phenomenal!

Also being a Rent/Wicked fan its hard to not be a Taboo fan because if you are an Idina Menzel/Rent fan then you're a Jonathan Larson Fan. If you're a Larson fan then you should be a "tick, tick,BOOM!" fan which had Raul Esparza in it who appeared in Taboo.

  • After looking through the comments it's sad that no one (that I saw) talked about how amazing "Caroline or Change" was! Wicked has enough fans and Avenue Q does too. How about a few of you Wicked and Avenue Q fans come join the "Caroline or Change" train, it's not a bad ride!

  • "Over the course of one Broadway musical season (2003-2004), "ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway" follows the four high-profile productions that would eventually become Tony nominees for Best Musical"

TABOO was NOT nominated for Best Musical. THE BOY FROM OZ took the fourth slot.

  • My prejudice against Wicked begins with the fans. Yesterday I was talking to a self-proclaimed "super fan" of the show. I said "I love Stephen Schwartz." She responds: "I don't know who that is." Come on, now.

  • Yeah don't judge all of Wicked's fans by talking to just one of them.

  • hahaha I deffinitly know what you're talking about!

Though it's true not all fans are like that, but a lot of them do!

  • Wicked's music is great, but to me lyrically, I thought it was too weak. Avenue Q I think was more original, lyrically brilliant, but it doesn't have that big of an audience. Wicked may not have won the Tony but it will live much longer than Avenue Q.

  • I JUST PRE ORDERED THIS!!! YAYY!

  • It really doesn't matter if Wicked won or not, because it ended becoming Broadway's biggest hit in years. I love how they ended it with Idina, she is such a powerhouse!

  • I love how all the background music was from Wicked.... it's like, hmmm, I wonder which music is better...... hmmm........

  • wicked would have won if people voted defiantly, wicked deserved 2 win

  • avenue q deserved to win!

  • Does anyone know if this will be released to DVD anytime? It'd be much appreciated if it was! =D

  • I WANT THIS DVD!!! And I hate how they leave you hanging with the winner. haha.

  • you don't know who won? lol.

it was like the biggest upset in Tony history.

  • well I was upset at least lol

  • Avenue Q won...nobody knows why though! Wicked should have won!

  • please come 2 uk!

  • Cheno cracks me up!! "I'm thinkin' I wanna be green...." Can't wait to see this!

  • I fucking LOVE that they said Idina's name in this and had the announcement of her nomination. Awesome! I can't wait to see this! And I love that it's going to be all OBCs, pretty much.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSS I AM SOOOO EXCITED
