  • On 0:15 secs you said the one on the left germinated 1st, overnight. What method did you use to germinate your seeds?

  • @TheRastaRick I literally just placed them in water in the windowsill. I think the first attempt I just got really lucky with seeds that had already started germinating in the apple.

  • Any updates man?

  • @5Language no, I only ended up with a couple that made it, because I got a little zealous with fertilizer too early and burnt some of them and then one of our dogs jumped up on the bed and decided to chew on them. I'm gonna give it a go here in a few days, and try to document the whole process for everyone

  • All you're going to get from that exercise is rootstock. If you want a Fuji, it has to be a clone(graft) from another Fuji.

  • @gcornum I'm with you on that, but I'm a gambler, and you never know what kind of apple they will bear.

  • Those seedlings look great, but i hope you're not banking on having fuji fruit from them. Most apple seedlings won't come true to resemble their parents. Hope you're lucky and get one that fruits closely to the real deal. If you can, its better to graft onto these seedlings in a year or two.

  • @TTLM77 we have 5 acres and we have 12 fruit trees as of now. I plan on planting a large orchard over the next few years.

  • It's sad because you don't know if they'll bear fruit or not due to cross pollination. I have an apple tree that's been growing from a seed I planted and it about four years old now and is only three feet high and has slowed in growth and it auks because I'm not sure itll bear fruit

  • @jrock99618 Are you in the country or a more urban environment?

  • anymore updates?

  • @orckrast well the sad thing is out of 16 sprouts initially, between the dog actually chewing on several of them and me adding fertilizer that burnt them. I ended up with two seedlings. (would have been eight that survived had it not been for the dog) I will try to post an update on them, but their growths has slowed considerably once they got past the first month.

I am going to have another go at it soon.

  • @ martinfryer... straight from the windowsill, to the seed starter. place the white root pointing down, and watch for the seed to start breaking with the leaves emerging. Keep the seed hull wet down with a mist approx once a day to encourage the little leaves to break the hull more easily.

  • Hi, how did u get them to grow so fast, and did you just put them straight in the compost? or did u keep them in the fridge ?

  • @martinfryer927 from window to seed starter (these were actually sponges believe it or not)

I believe I got lucky with seeds that had partially germinated in the apple already, as I have done it since with a longer lead time 'til seeds sprouted.
