@carvinR the 389 was the only motor offered until 67, your only "choices" were the number of carbs on it. In 67 the 400 came out and the tri power disappeared. the 455 wasn't offered until 70. i would be interested to know where your research is from?
research more into the gto's they came with ethier the 389, or 400 it was a choice" and alot of peoples are putting in 455's into there 65's "the tripower wasnt used till 65, but all 3 years 65-67 pretty much had the same motor and most of the parts were interchangeable
In 1965 the only engine option for the GTO was the 389. 400 wasn't offered untill `67 in a GTO. Tri-Power could have been ordered with the first GTO in 1964. Tri-Power started with the GTO in `64 and ended part way through production in `66. The cold air induction through the hood scoops started mid `65 as an option. This car might be a 'real' GTO as the title claims, but the 400 is not original. Check my videos for a 'real' `65 GTO with a #'s matching 389 Tri-Power engine.
