I got my misch rod today but the thing doesnt shoot the concentraded sparks it throws normal spark for some reason can you plz tell me why I also watched his videos on how to spark it but still does not work
Thanks... This is very useful info. Just starting to put together an emergency kit and these tid bits may seem simple to most but they make a lot of sense to those of us that don't have the experience to know what to use. Thanks again. By the way. Those of you that feel your lighter will always work an all conditions... carry a lighter.
i would get the footlong and cut it with a hacksaw at 4 inches so u get a 4 inch piece for ur survival tin and the 8 inch piece for fireplaces and stuff
Cool firesteel, when I chew up my new one I will deffinetly buy this one. The problem with my new Primus one is that the paddle you make sparks with doesn't work, it just glides and I have to apply great force while sparking. Any advices?
What it comes down to is that whatever you purchase, be it a ferrocerium rod or Swedish fire steel, you need to take it outside and practice with it. Even different ferro rods from different manufacturers will require slightly different strokes, angles, pressure, and force. It's not a good idea to wait for an emergency situation to learn how to use your ferro rod. I own ferro rods and Swedish fire steels and each requires different stroke techniques, but it's not difficult to learn.
do you understand how rare it would be for someone to be in that situation... you might as well carry a raft on you inc ase there is a tsunami in the middle of ohio somehow...
@rawimpact You mean rather THAN going hiking, don't you? Good tips, professor. By the way, is BTW how you finish sentences properly, or are you just another lazy YouTube critic?
@1971mgb When I was a cigarette smoker, some years ago..a bic would last me more than 2 months and thats using it 20+ times per day, so I have no worries on how long it would last me in a survival situation.
@blaaskaak666 Do you know how a lighter works? Even if you submerge it in water and take it out it will still work as long as you dry it off. The gas is in the chamber with high pressure, it will naturally want to come out when the outlet is open. And flint will still spark... not sure why you idiots make a deal about it getting wet. The real issue is it breaking. That really is unlikely unless you carry it in your pocket for some dumb reason.

get a fucking lighter, 50 cents

Enjoy dying of hypothermia when your lighter fails on you after you fell in a creek and it's cold and windy outside.
Ferrorods ALWAYS work, even when wet and are a much better camping/survival tool than a lighter.

You mustn't go on many hiking trips. I won't mourn for you if you get yourself killed when you do.

how about spending more time learning how to complete sentences properly rather then going hiking?
welcome to our society btw.

you should always be prepaired for what might happen but there are exceptions like you mentioned

@blaaskaak666 Water doesn't hurt a lighter, I've had a BIC lighter go through the washer several times and it fires right up afterwards. :)
cowboy82272 7 months ago
@cowboy82272
How does it do lighting a fire when it runs out of gas?
As a survival tool a Bic lighter comes up real short when it runs out of fuel.
Flint and steel and ferro rods never fail.
