  • I have a problem when using your letterbox... it seems like it doesn't cover the image perfectly,on the very outside it still shows a super thin line of what is being overlaid... I'm not sure how to fix this or whether i should just make my own?

  • @MrCarseallday increase the scale from 100 to 101 - this should fix any clipping issues.

    Dan

  • I'll have so many subscribers erm..... I dunno really LOL

  • Not necessary to make the overlay. You can use the offset.

  • @drskywalkerluke i did discuss in the video other reasons why the overlay is beneficial :)

  • @danonabouncycastle okay, fine :). A question… do you know how to export only a portion of the entire sequence? I mean only a selected portion? Thank you very much!

  • @drskywalkerluke as far as i am aware, you can only define a an export 'region' using compressor. i have a tutorial in my FCPX Playlist about using FCPX and compressor - otherwise i dont think you can :(

  • @danonabouncycastle now I have a good reason to buy Compressor… :)

  • @drskywalkerluke actually a way to export only a selected portion of the whole sequence is assigning it a new role, like for example "my subsequence"….

  • I LOVE U

  • Hello. I have successfully put letterboxing on all my clips, but have encountered a problem. Every time I use a lens flare transition like Bloom, lightnoise, or Flash, the entire screen lights up. I am looking for a way so that the letterbox remains black when the transitions occur. Any Solutions?

  • Many thanks for adding the letterbox for people to download. Really helped me out. Ant

  • Thanks for the video and letterbox link. Used it for a video I just did on my page. Keep the video tips coming.

  • this link isnt downloading anything for me

  • @k1eee It's an image. You save it as image then put it in FCPX to use in any of your projects.

  • Mind you, I do appreciate the videos and I'm learning quite a bit.

  • Will you consider adjusting the audio in your videos so that way I can hear you a bit better. You're voice track comes across as awfully low and my speakers aren't the best.

  • hey dan i clicked the letter box link.. and it does not download .. has it expired? Would love to use it ...

  • Another option is to make the entire flick into a compound clip. Then apply the letterbox onto the compound clip. Being that you can do what you want within the compound clip, it has the same effect as what you just showed.

  • You are amazing!!! A huge THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • @stamtad the link is in the description - Dan

  • Thanks!! You seriously rock.

  • Thanks for the vid! (you have birds singins in the background xD)

  • Thank you for doing this!

  • Buddy, I need your help. Could you post a tutorial teaching how to remove dust spots from a movie ( or any other spots...)?

  • You can use the letterbox effect built in FCPX, once you finish the video, select every clip of the video and create a new "compound clip" and then apply the effect on all of it, worked great for me!

  • I used the letterbox Dan made. And like he said, I'm telling him about it. The video is on my channel.

  • @MattJamesAwad Nice letterbox ;) x

  • why do I sometimes get a white letterbox and sometimes a black one?

  • Hello, I need your help plz.. I am trying to make a movie in widescreen and was wondering if all I have to do is what your showing us on this video? My movie was NOT shot in widescreen. Also, how do you make a movie in widescreen and burn it in wide but have it so that its playable on all DVD players and TV. Like when popping it into a random DVD/TV it wont cut the picture and resize it to something unnormal? Am I making any sense?

  • Thank you so much! I was in the process of creating something similar to this, but I then decided to see what others were doing, but it works and it looks great. Thank you again.

One other thing I find pretty frustrating is when I add a transition to a clip, it moves it, so that's not always a problem except for when I've synced it up with different audio, cause the \n everything is out of sync. I don't know if theres a way of locking clips in place or not.

    but thank you again

  • you are a genius........i don't care how many Em' you' ve said but this tutorial is very helpful...THANK YOU

  • hey man i have a question and i hope u can answer or do a video tutorial to it .. i kno how to do letterboxing now with the video but how can do that AND add a cropped imaged in the letter box and have the other half of the image in the bottom while the video is in the middle do u understand what im saying? i really need help with this and thank you if u can

  • ehm thanx man, like your style

  • thanks!! :)

  • I edit a lot of 60fps footage and fcpx tends to bake in green frames into the final renders when it can't catch up. Had any of that? Lovely tutorials btw.

  • yoo thnx for the black bars man, i appreciate!!

and ill show u when i finish my dance cover video :]

  • danonabouncycastle I have stated using FCP X on my iMac which is a i7 having 8 GB RAM I do at times see sluggishness........ and see some virtual memory usage do you think moving to 16 GB is a good idea....... thanks in advance your videos help a lot.

  • If I hardly know how to use imovie, should I update to Final Cut Pro X?

  • Uhm is only noticeable when one doesn't have anything good to say. Not the case in your situation.

Keep up the great work! I love your tutorials.

  • what mac do u use and which specs does it have??

  • @rmaazennec i7 8GB RAM MacBook Pro 2011 :D

  • Thanks for your informative and fun FCPX videos.

You can have Compressor 4 crop your final movie to cinematic proportion by clicking the Geometry tab --> Crop to: Panavision 2.35:1 --> Frame Size: 1920 x 816. You can set this up and save it as a Custom setting for later use.

Since most of us don't have access to the big screen, the question remains on how to deliver this content. I have seen this format on Vimeo, but I am not sure about YouTube. Does YouTube support 2.35:1 without letterbox?

  • @cswainhart for a while, it supported it when you click that button to make playback take up the width of that page, but i am not sure now :/

  • Hey I was wondering is if you would know if there was a way I could fix this? Sometimes when I'm in final cut pro x when I'm playing videos back it will get really laggy in some areas for no reason and whenever I go to that one spot it will always be laggy there, but if I export it it's fine. Its really weird!

  • Entretaining and instructive as always

  • Great video. I am looking forward to more. Thanks.

  • Great Video, Can you do an FPS Muzzle Flash tutorial?

  • @MajorGloomy you can't in final cut pro x thats 1 of the features that they left you need to mask out the gun when you do that and you can't do that in the new final cut

  • @MajorGloomy he told someone on one of the gun tuts, that he would make a vid for it...

  • hey, so I was wondering if you have any place i can download your tutorials because they are very helpful, good resolution, and you aren't another 6 year old with a high pitch voice. lol

  • it is great to some-one like u ^_^
