If you don’t have an iPhone 4S, but still want to pose spoken questions to your device and let her speak out the answer, give ‘Voice Ask’ a try. The knowledge base behind it is huge (better than Siri) and the voice recognition works better with all accents. Work is going on to add integrated functionality that Siri offers, but for now, it’s a great app that knows details on the strangest of subjects. Get it at voiceask.com
This is cool, even if it isn't the most practical. I collect some vintage Apple stuff, and this kind of thing is what makes collecting and using old machines fun. Keep it up!
It shouldn't be that hard to trigger a text-to-speech app on the 512e. The demo would be much cooler if it ended with the 512 reading back your email.
Now you've just got to get a perl/awk/sed script running as part of the applescript so as to convert those modern day line feeds to old Mac-style carriage returns! (Witness the three boxes in the final message.)
Ok so there is an invisible iMac involved and the bridge computer is necessary because the 512 only talks AppleTalk. So all in all we have 4 devices involved. LOL. Still, shouldn't the 512 be able to speak the message and hence communicate back to Siri?
@mojoblues66 Oh! Oh! You could turn this into a necromachine. Can Siri turn the iPhone off? If so, then you could email the command to the Mac from Siri in order to have the Mac speak the command causing Siri to turn the iPhone off. Like these: youtube.com/watch?v=ul9jqqVzMWk
@FloatingOnAZephyr Dear God you're reminding me how you had to keep that little grey ball clean of dirt, and remove any hair that got around the rollers... Sort of an OCD paradise, actually.
@napabar I'd like to see it go the other way - have an old Mac (I can't remember when speech synthesis was first an accessible part of the OS) dictate an email to Siri.

its a nice interface between old and new but sadly it wastes too many resources and power without much to gain interest, good try but keep on tryin

It's an experiment in creative thinking, not a plan for real world application.

@napabar
still pretty cool though, not many people try these sorts of ideas anymore, and thats what makes it pretty neat

I like the lock screen on your iPhone. It gave me a start for a second!

@ReadeMoore Haha it really was! Brilliantly simple design though.

I want to see the Mac 512 send an email via Siri.

This is really rare but i have the same background picture on my iPhone from "The Dark Knight Rises". Nice :D

Couldn't your AppleScript have launched the text file? And, even cooler, it could have the old Mac speak the contents.

@aNudistYokel
The AppleScript is running on my iMac. It cannot control the Mac 512K. The Mac 512K is not capable of running AppleScripts itself, either.
