@miazagora yes, you can rinse them, but pat them dry, they will cook better if patted dry.

um wow lol u didnt take out the scales i went to this pier caught like 1000 sardines and threw them back wow i am such an idiot i tried the can 1s and they where awesome!

There' no problem with scales on small blue skin fish. Really fresh sardines are used in top sashimi in Japanese restaurants, an even eaten raw, there is no problem with scales.
