At the time this came out it was super heavy and I would definitely rather hear this over Detroit rock city or Abba or steely fuckin Dan man I hated that shit.
Man, I am withya, I was a teen in the late 70's and music was fucking HORRIBLE, AWFUL, so bad I can't even describe it. You forgot a few, BeeGees, Olivia Newton John, Fleetwood Mac, disco, etc, etc, etc. If it wasn't for these guys, and the Judas Priest albums of the time, there would be nothing worth a shit to listen to.
@mzaputil I agree with you about those pop bands sucking, and Priest and Scorps were 2 of my very favorite rock bands, but there was lots of good rock: UFO, Rainbow, Nazareth, Uriah Heep, Sweet, AC/DC, Motorhead, Foghat, etc. The 70's produced some of the best music.
Uli was on his way out of the band, that's what this song is actually about. so I bet the remaining bandmembers though, why show him? Or at least they agreed with the director. Probably why Tokyo Tapes is so great, because something great was ending, the Uli era of Scorpions.
My beloved Klaus, you used to have hair!!! :d I love these early recordings... ;) and all of their songs. Will be going to a concert soon. They're pure magic!!!!
ssolo8, he didn't change anything, he followed in Blackmore's footsteps like Malmsteen. True he had fluidity and taste unlike say Rhodes or Halen who are slightly more staccato (much more staccato would be someone like Morse or some Bluegrass player) Blackmore and Malmsteen both have taste, writing and playing great melodic pieces, the problem for many with Malmsteen is, he likes overplaying on every piece. Blackmore always played for the piece,
I'll never forget the first time I heard Uli's playing- Sails of Charon- just awesome neo classical shredding with taste- His Hendrix style playing is as close to Jimi's sound was as anyone I've heard, with the exception of Stevie Ray- It was a heartbreaker to us when he left Scorps
The five first albums are so underrated and forgotten with time... it's a shame because they are filled with impressive music... these songs deserve to be on classic compilations as much, if not more, than all their 80's hits.
agree, but in contrast with klaus, uli is just standing and playing the guitar. so they might have thought that the aerobics of klaus is better than the stillness of uli. moreover, rockers who want to see the solo are not as much the housewives who want a quick gymnastic programme xD
Ehe, not to be bitchy, arrogant or upitty but as far as I know, Rudolf and Meine where the OnLY ones to have been in the band since it got formed. Jabs joined after Michael Schenker's second departure, if I remember/know correctly.
I know if you check out the vid "I'm going mad" from Lone-Crow here on youtube you'll see that its some other dude on drums...doesn't mean he was in the studio I suppose.
This is getting confusing. Someone earlier started referring to Rudy Lenners as "Rudolph" too, so I was rolling with that. Yes I knew Rudolph Schenker was a founding member, he's the backbone of that band!
Rudolph was so much on lonesome crow that it is HE who found the name of the group (when he was a teenager in the mid-60's), & is the only one who stood (after all it was his own enterprise -i say this on purpose) from the begining
Yosh, Klaus and Rudy were there when the band first started. About a few years later, Matthias joined the fray, and while other members moved in and out, the three of them stayed, and thus forms the bond that resulted in the authentic, unique sound known to fans as Scorpions music. THAT is what I meant. But don't worry, I don't think you're being scrawny XP.
Well.. I like to hear Uli's solo, but I prefer watching "Klaus' aerobics" rather than Uli's extasy,rapture,excitacion..dunno how to name it in other way//
Sorry but he seems to be too full of oneself for me..
I'm on board with that!! I think I get the same sound with my Floyd Rose system on my Jackson, but it would be so cool to have the white Strat. Interesting, a white Strat just like his hero Jimi.
The interesting thing is that this song was written by Uli about his bandmates. He was about to leave the band, and the lyrics speak very clearly for him. The Scorpions were "spoiling his art". "You say you wanna be a superstar / You're giving up to get that far" - Well, the eighties proved that the lyrics were true. They became a commercial metal band in order to keep the cash flowing.
Interesting...usually I dont think what are the songs about but as you tell this, I understand...pity that Uli didnt sing this one himself, when its so personal
awesome, thanks for such a cool post, i first saw the scorpions in '79 so missed the Uli days, seen Uli in his own right since and seeing him play with the Scorpions in the UK July 2007..should be awesome!
i hate that shit when those dumbass camera ppl shoot anyone but the lead guitarst during the solo!!! god it makes me mad i mean wtf is the idea in that! thanx for the post anywaz sorry for the curssing
