  • what can you do with it when it comes to games and how do u get them to work

  • meanwhile many distros cam out based on wii linux which already have everything configured ;)

    take a look at:

    xwhiite

this is the thing you search for ;)

  • Are they planning on making a GUI for Wii Linux.

  • there is a new X video driver which converst yuv2 correct to RGB called "cube" ... also more ram and sdhc support are aviable now . so because it is a debian based system, you can easily set up a gui the same as you would under your pc running debian minimal installation (so if you are not familiar with such stuff , read the FAQ ... or just type in "sudo apt-get install X11 yourfavwm" <- where yourfavwm could be for example kde , gnome , blackbox , fluxbox etc ...

  • That's amazing. I hope Ubuntu makes an OS for the Wii just like how they did for the PS3. Im new to Linux so I dont know how to add my own GUI lol.

  • yeah that would be good :)

  • xwhiite 0.1 released! check it out it is AWESOME!

  • thanks

  • So whats it do?

  • this is an old version just showing p.o.c. to run it

at that point we were able to delete move create and view files and the basic linux stuff...

in the latest release we have bluetooth and video player support and we are able to run games... .some people even got a desktop working!

  • this is one of the only video showing the OLD 0.2 version man!

if you want videos with something bit more functional, search for "wiithe" ... this is the codename of the new wii 0.4 version with usb flash drive, usb keyboard and media play ,bluetooth and alll support. ;)

so you rlly cannot do more with this version so think firs before you call it "gay video show me some more actions" and stuff like this ;)

  • Cool, do you need a mod chip for the wii. I have a sweet chiped xbox and havent done anything to my wii, so just wondering

  • i have a chiped ps2 ;) but no chip is needed for the Wii!

this is why the scene is so active!

you just need to get the gamel "zelda twilight princess" and the "TP" also known as "Twilight hack" ...

copy the right region savegame to your sd card in the proper directory, copy it to your wii nand flash and put on the root of the sd card the "homebrew channel installer" as "boot.elf"

now it will install a channel to run homebrew software

check out "wiibrew, org" for maaaany apps and nabout this;)

  • ohhhhh so thats what it does =/ im like wtf is all this black text this is nothing. so i didn't do anything...

  • hey :) i think you don't know linux yet, right? first learn something abour linux generally is my advise for you ;) then you'll understand many things more^^as basic explanation for you for now:

linux is an OS and this video shows that you are able to run an OS which normally runs on a Pc you can run on a Nintendo Wii :):):)

  • How come my screen gets all screwy when I boot up linux on my Wii?

(Its working and all, just everything is distorted and ..mest up)

  • the graphic mode of the wii is pretty weird.. on PAL there is an edge cutted of.. and sooo on... yo will jsut need to wait until they fix it :( it is normal that you have some TV errors...

  • wait so what exactly can the gamecube linux do?

  • you have a complete busybox built in,mount your sd-card ,remove and copy ,rename, list files ... tcp is in developement so that there will be soon a web browser and maybe even a x server providing a desktop =)

  • I think it can get even better in the next few weeks as it already support USB keyboard. Hope they continue working on it.

  • yeah but no updates for like 2 motnhs... i want network sooo bad :) then maybe using the ubuntu respiority :) <-sry bad english

  • A new version has come out---- 0.4

  • i already know... you can scroll down on the comments... i said i cannot show it because i do not have 2 sd-cards :(

  • so uh, what can you do with this?

  • you have a complete busybox built in,mount your sd-card ,remove and copy ,rename, list files ... tcp is in developement so that there will be soon a web browser and maybe even a x server providing a desktop =)

  • I've never used linux before I was just wondering what type of programs you'd be able to run.

  • every linux program and also most windows programs using wine in linux generally...

but linux on the wii hardware is relatevely new so that you right now cannot expect that much... my advice:

try out linux on a real computer and you'll be amazed :)

  • there are a lot of operating system made of linux(Linux Distro). So, the fuctionality may vary, some just give you shell and some have a complete desktop environment. Look for wikipedia article about linux distribution.

  • Wiinux.

  • :D it is supposed to be called wiili or wiiware :D but i like wiinux most ;);)=)

sadly i hvae no 2 sd-cards to show off that the newer PoC 0.4 supprts even usb keyboard :)

  • How did u do that? I know it easy to do on the PS3 but the wii isn't ppc or intel based.

  • the wii IS ppc based! use the "zelda TP exploit" and copy the linux distro on the root of the sd card (fat 16/32 formatted) and call it "boot.elf"

you can get the distro from

    gc-linux,org

  • Oops. Well thanks.

  • idiot .. that cpu is powerpc in broadway brand... sheez!!

  • well excuse me for not looking up weather the wii is ppc based.

  • Good job, now do it to the PSP or DS and I'll be impressed.

  • ds is easy... psp,too but i need to get a pandora battery to run it on psp :(

there is a newer linux version released which is WAY more useful! now with usb keyboard support and busybox built in!!!

so the progress @ this project is eyxtremly fast :)

  • Nice work, this also confirm Linux can run on a toaster if it had ram :)

  • =) yeah linux is even running on my brain <33333 :)

  • And whats this for???

  • this is just to show that the wii is able to run linux :) there is no usb support yet so it is not really usable.... BUT it works and all devices will be supported soon (I hope this at least)
