having a batman show is a terrible idea. trust me the smallville idea was a lot better. The journey of superman is a lot more intriguing to me than journey of batman, since its predictable why and how batman got the way he did..imagine watching an hour episode of bruce training one different type of thing each week, going around the world..its better to just sum it up and make him batman

@Squall6575 No, it isn't. Grant Morrison showed exactly why there isn't really much need to explore Superman's origins in four short sentences. There isn't any "training" or "journey" to become Superman. Just simply being born with powers and growing up with great parents.

@Squall6575 No, it became popular because they wanted to see the guy become Superman. People got tired of the freak of the week stuff and they wisely dropped it. Take out all the Superman stuff and there's no way the show would've lasted as long as it did. And the Dawson's Creek with super powers schtick can only last so long.

@Lencho01 yeah but the whole alleged point of this show was to show the transition of teenage Clark to Superman. instead,this whole series is just a bunch of random(and really stupid) stuff,with bits of the Superman/Superboy mythos thrown in every now and then,and the only time they ever seem to show something from the comics is if it'll attract ratings. Are you seriously telling me that Clark is supposed to go up against Doomsday, as a teenage boy still developing his powers?

@TheSlickAndroid Based on the show and what the original producers have said, it seems to me the whole "transition" part was just something the marketing people went with and others just assumed the show was about. At the end of the day, they just wanted to tell the story of a guy who had a falling out with his "best" friend and put major focus on a girl who was never worth the time and space. As entertaining as the show can be at times, it's unfortunate we couldn't get something much better.

@Lencho01 I just think overall its the absolute worst version of Superboy and Superman(because in the last few seasons he's an adult living in Metropolis). If they wanted to write a show about a stronger than average teenage boy who has a falling out with a friend and tries to get a girl who isn't worth they should have called it something else,or better yet,they should have just written for Kyle XY.. this arguably would have worked better as a (more faithful) mini series.

@TheSlickAndroid Looking back on the show, starting with Season 4, I can't take the show seriously and just laugh at it. It makes the show much more enjoyable in that regard. I guess you can't really expect much from people who originally wanted to make a Nancy Drew/Ally McBeal show about Lois in the first place and made this show since they were told they could go with the idea some other guy had for Batman (it wasn't picked up since WB was working on a film), but were told to use Superman.

@Lencho01 yeah, Thank God they didn't get their hands on batman. i can only imagine what they would have done with him(and I'm pretty sure it would have been similar to that awful Gotham high cartoon that was gonna be made). this show is Smallville in name only. Smallville is supposed to be just that. a small,rural area in the country. in this show,its a 90210-type town. its easy just from looking at one episode that they had absolutely no respect for Superman or DC comics as a whole.

@TheSlickAndroid The guy who was going to do the Batman show actually had a set plan of a 4-5 season show. It would've have the teen drama, of course. But, it sounded better than SV. Also, it helps that a character like Batman works better for a "journey." Superman's story is simple. The SV people didn't have a plan and we got a 10 year show much pointlessness. Since they "stole" his idea, he got paid royalties. After SV was successful, they tried to do their own Batman show, but WB said no.

@Lencho01 If they did make a show about a teenage Batman,it should be about his training experiences and all the things he learned on the long road to becoming the Guardian and Dark Knight of Gotham. And I'm not talking about Batman in High School. I'm talking about an in depth look of all the places around the world young Bruce went to in order to train in martial arts,and other skills. And none of the dumb random crap this show has(like vampires,a blatant saw rip-off,cheesy teen angst,etc).

@TheSlickAndroid That's what the guy planned. He'd look at why Bruce didn't just become a cop or join the FBI. He would try those out, but realize it wasn't enough for the type of justice he wanted to do and thus become Batman. Also, Bruce is actually Batman at the start (I'm not sure it was going to be his first time going out as so). It's Alfred just telling the story of how he got there. It was kinda similar to Year One and BB since Bruce came back to Gotham. He would be 17 at the start.

@TheSlickAndroid Yeah, it would've been a more interesting show as far as a "journey" show goes. I'd buy a 10 year show of Bruce training to become Bats over Clark becoming Supes since the journey show doesn't really fit him. I always say that if my 22 year old self told my 12 year old self ago how long SV would last & all the stuff that would happen, 12 year old me would say 22 was a liar and I'd laugh really hard. It all comes down to the Batman guy having a plan while the SV people didn't.
