i cant believe how stupid this all sounds! "creating the perfect wave" ?? yeah maybe they can create tubes and stuff but a surfer isnt just searching for the perfect wave. I love the feeling when the salty water clutches into my face. I just love it not to know whats out there. theres nobody who pushes some buttons and then a "perfect" wave apears!!
There is absolutelly no point on surfing a wave pool. Why would people look after waves placed in exotic, beautifull and crowdless places? It is not only about surfing a perfect wave alone, or with some few people you hnow.. that I could do in the videogame, or in a skatepark.
It is all about being in contact with the breathtaking immensity of nature, feeling ''the rapture on the lonely shore''. Please, greedy ex-surfers, don't kill surf.
the whole point of being in the surf is getting different waves everytime if your surfing the same wave everytime your gonna get sick of it pretty quickly
I do believe in Natural waves and love it...but this is awesome! Specially on those days of summer when is mostly flat in some areas! Besides no everyplace has a perfect wave! Great Job!
It's cheaper to preserve nature, than to destroy it first and then trying to conquer it and recreate it. Just look at the attempt to conquer the atom. First dropping the Hiroshima bomb to "achieve peace" and lately the Fukishima reactors going out of control.
Forget the waves, fill these pools with makos and great whites and feed the japanese whalers to them. Id pay to see that. Support the sea sheperd organisation
i don't surf, but i have to say, wouldn't this take all of the fun out of surfing? aren't you supposed to flow with nature rather than control it?
i longboard skateboard though, which is similar to surfing, except instead of riding the waves, you ride the hills. you learn to flow with the hills, and if you don't, you eat asphalt, but if you never had a challenge, it would be no fun. same thing with surfing, perfectly shaped waves would be too predictable.
Can you make a circular one with the wave breaking on the outside of the ring? Opposite to kswc idea, more efficient and smaller scale needed to produce the same..
KERRY BLACK IS A WANTED MAN IN SOUTH TARANAKI AND MOUNT MAUNGANUI NZ,FOR RIPPING OFF THE LOCAL RATE PAYERS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS BUILDING ARTIFICIAL REEFS THAT DO NOT WORK.THE PEOPLE OF OPUNAKE WERE DUPED BY THIS CHARACTER AND NOW HAVE A LEMON AND NOT A VIABLE WORLD CLASS SURF BREAK AS WAS PROMISED.DO NOT TRUST HIS CLAIMS OF FANTASTIC DIS OR DAT!!!!

@barney470 yeah man I totally agree, but why not continue to attempt to develop technology that can bring us closer to a perfect wave? It'll never be as sick as a point break firing with just you and your mates but it'd be so sick to hit your local indoor wave at like 10pm at night and shred with your buddies on a friday! i look forward to surfing technology its gonna be sick!

@MrPilago808 ASR have done that a long time ago. This is the next step that doesn't rely on weather-generated swell. And it can be deployed in places that aren't fortunate enough to have a coast near to them. 'Make sense now?
@dknoway if you wanna surf so god damn bad why not save all the money you wasted on making a 3 second wave breaking in shit looking water, you could move to someplace that isnt land locked and surf. or you know what, waste your money on this shit that theyre trying to fulfill, stay somplace land locked and keep the line ups less crowded. fuckin clown
@MrPilago808 No need to get nasty Wanker. I and ASR are from New Zealand - You can never be more than a couple of hours drive from the coast! They're just trying to spread the love of Surfing to some who are less fortunate to have access to it normally. But you're probably one of those loco locals who drops in on anyone from further than a couple of coves away who's crowding "Your" line up, so that's OK, you're not expected to get it.
@MrPilago808 Can't always have swell or the right wind for an artificial reef. You can't surf an artificial reef inland either. Existing artificial reefs have been expensive failures to date whereas some wave pool success has been attained at Siam and Japan.
@MrPilago808 Yes but we have to kill off all the enviro Nazis first.I have been waiting for this thing to come out for years.Never gonna happen in my life time.I would take a wave pool over crowds any day I have been visiting artificial waves since 1981.I always have a good time.I dont know why this hasn;t happened yet.
wasted money that could have went to fl first artificial reef just like they did in india with a perfect wave now >.< the ocean is not just about perfect waves i see no freedom in this surfed typhoon lagoon was fun but the elements were not there making it seem false
@55nublet india is far from perfect, as is every other artificial wave made by this company (asr). the best artificial wave has to be the super bank which as a result destroyed an arguably better wave in kirra.
@wantonious i saw many things on the reef in india before and after and how it made a pritty nice left but hey its media :P but at least it is good for the ocean by creating envronmentally sound areas for sea life :) un like a wave pool :P definitly agree on the kira statement :)
this is fantastic! ye something is lost when you eliminate mother nature...it wont completely compare to all the elements coming together naturally ....wind, tides, swell direction and size, but not everyone has direct access to the surf. not everyone lives by the coast. and if you are lucky enough, you too will notice how crowds are increasing dramatically yet wave quality and quantity isn't,(chesk out Mornington Peninsula to see what I mean). Wave pools are all good in my books!
Even if this worked on a larger scale pool it's not the whole surfing experience and has no soul. There's no effort and commitment in paddling out, no anticipation and excitment sat in the line up wonder what the next set will be like....no stoke. For me paddling out in freezing cold, blown out, raging winter sea's makes the super clean, warm summer days all the sweeter, the good days with the bad it's what surfing is about.
@pan1pan1 To be honest I even enjoy the raging winter sea's. Sometimes they can be just excellent even in places like Norfolk (England). But agreed, these types of pool's are ruining the traditional "Surfing" however. If you're a surfer and you move somewhere that has no surf then surely you and I both would go to these? Don't get me wrong I love the real deal but i'd love to give these a try they seem a bit of fun if you have nothing to do and the swell is blown out !
Officially put the FL pool on hiatus after dumping all of their building budget into R & D to rework the design after they found out that this one doesnt work like they thought in a full scale size. Kerry Black doesn't surf. If he did, he would know that you outrun this wave fast, needs much more area, bottlenecking the desing into a narrow end saves wave energy but makes the ride hella short. The ring is better idea, KSlater bought the rights to it, but expect years before seeing it anywhere
With wedges like that shown you would get too much speed for how slow the tube is grindinng. IMO you would outrun the tube naturally, without trying. IMO faster tubes are more fun. Therefore the pool should be wider and you need more of a channel.

i was just thinking th same thing watching a bunch of other man made waves.. i just couldnt put it down to words (the magic of nature and being out there at the right time to recieve its gift):D
well that's great. So now we don't need to travel to remote tropical islands and get up early. Eat a good breakfast as the sun rises behind the palm trees and then paddel out in crystal water over vibrant collored coral reefs to surf the perfect barrels. We can just go to a wavepool for all we need. How long is the ride and what did it cost to build one of those again?
thos things r shit and a waste off time theres one in the mount maunganui , a man made reef the thing coast a few mill and its never worked.. its eazy to make something in a pool but you put the thing in the ocean it will never work its a fucken waste off time get a real job
@bflow86 Sort of, as it turns out that to create a perfect wave isn't scalable. It is exponential, like if it take 6 inch wave 4 joules of energy to create. It will not take 8 joules to make a one foot wave, it would take like 16 joules or something.
Wow kerry black just loves to steal other ppls designs

@MrPilago808 No need to get nasty Wanker. I and ASR are from New Zealand - You can never be more than a couple of hours drive from the coast! They're just trying to spread the love of Surfing to some who are less fortunate to have access to it normally. But you're probably one of those loco locals who drops in on anyone from further than a couple of coves away who's crowding "Your" line up, so that's OK, you're not expected to get it.

@MrPilago808 have you ever thought that people could just b inland not on s coast
benwild1234567890 1 year ago
@MrPilago808 Can't always have swell or the right wind for an artificial reef. You can't surf an artificial reef inland either. Existing artificial reefs have been expensive failures to date whereas some wave pool success has been attained at Siam and Japan.

@MrPilago808 Yes but we have to kill off all the enviro Nazis first.I have been waiting for this thing to come out for years.Never gonna happen in my life time.I would take a wave pool over crowds any day I have been visiting artificial waves since 1981.I always have a good time.I dont know why this hasn;t happened yet.
lalaboards 11 months ago
@MrPilago808 The thing is, making a reef doesn't mean there will be a wave...

@MrPilago808 wow no body would say no to this on a flat day

@MrPilago808
Because fake waves can be made and used without swell, the ocean, or a coastline
bombardtheman 10 months ago
@MrPilago808 cause for people like me who moved from oahu to colorado, this is godly
CoreyL11 9 months ago
@MrPilago808 the point of the fake wave is to bring surfing to areas where people have no opportunity to surf in the ocean

wasted money that could have went to fl first artificial reef just like they did in india with a perfect wave now >.< the ocean is not just about perfect waves i see no freedom in this surfed typhoon lagoon was fun but the elements were not there making it seem false
55nublet 1 year ago
@55nublet india is far from perfect, as is every other artificial wave made by this company (asr). the best artificial wave has to be the super bank which as a result destroyed an arguably better wave in kirra.

@wantonious i saw many things on the reef in india before and after and how it made a pritty nice left but hey its media :P but at least it is good for the ocean by creating envronmentally sound areas for sea life :) un like a wave pool :P definitly agree on the kira statement :)

is there any wave house like this in california im over the fake ass ones that are just water being shot up a plastic hill
southBAYstruts 1 year ago
this is fantastic! ye something is lost when you eliminate mother nature...it wont completely compare to all the elements coming together naturally ....wind, tides, swell direction and size, but not everyone has direct access to the surf. not everyone lives by the coast. and if you are lucky enough, you too will notice how crowds are increasing dramatically yet wave quality and quantity isn't,(chesk out Mornington Peninsula to see what I mean). Wave pools are all good in my books!

Even if this worked on a larger scale pool it's not the whole surfing experience and has no soul. There's no effort and commitment in paddling out, no anticipation and excitment sat in the line up wonder what the next set will be like....no stoke. For me paddling out in freezing cold, blown out, raging winter sea's makes the super clean, warm summer days all the sweeter, the good days with the bad it's what surfing is about.
pan1pan1 1 year ago
@pan1pan1 To be honest I even enjoy the raging winter sea's. Sometimes they can be just excellent even in places like Norfolk (England). But agreed, these types of pool's are ruining the traditional "Surfing" however. If you're a surfer and you move somewhere that has no surf then surely you and I both would go to these? Don't get me wrong I love the real deal but i'd love to give these a try they seem a bit of fun if you have nothing to do and the swell is blown out !
omgsurfer 1 year ago
Officially put the FL pool on hiatus after dumping all of their building budget into R & D to rework the design after they found out that this one doesnt work like they thought in a full scale size. Kerry Black doesn't surf. If he did, he would know that you outrun this wave fast, needs much more area, bottlenecking the desing into a narrow end saves wave energy but makes the ride hella short. The ring is better idea, KSlater bought the rights to it, but expect years before seeing it anywhere

problem is it doesnt have the weight of the wave behind it pushing you forwards, instead it has the water pushing you back

With wedges like that shown you would get too much speed for how slow the tube is grindinng. IMO you would outrun the tube naturally, without trying. IMO faster tubes are more fun. Therefore the pool should be wider and you need more of a channel.

i was just thinking th same thing watching a bunch of other man made waves.. i just couldnt put it down to words (the magic of nature and being out there at the right time to recieve its gift):D
bentzenko 1 year ago
well that's great.

Why can't they make a bigger pool in Orlando. It seems the technology is there but just not the scale. Is it a money issue?
bflow86 2 years ago 31
@bflow86 Yea because nobody in this economy will or can invest.
dnlvh8 1 year ago
@bflow86 Sort of, as it turns out that to create a perfect wave isn't scalable. It is exponential, like if it take 6 inch wave 4 joules of energy to create. It will not take 8 joules to make a one foot wave, it would take like 16 joules or something.
