I loved this game back in the day.

I remember seeing the box to this in a toystore in Australia, circa 1989. IIRC, it was one of the earlier titles for the NES. It looks, sounds and plays much better than I imagined it would back then.

Definitely going to give this a go, I like hard games. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

well actualy now that i see skyrunner14 says this game was actualy hudsons released in US by jaleco. explanes using starship hectors(part of the star soilder series) main song.

Many games got slower on PAL systems, both in times and music and so on. A friend of mine got alot better times on his USA F-Zero than me on PAL. So the cars went faster but seconds where still seconds, I guess they went in and change that. Streetfighter was horribly slow on PAL and I fixed myself a modded PAL to get the faster. PAL was really ruining the games, and I feel bad for all who never knew this and played slow stuff.

In a way, the game did get sequels. They're called Bomberman. Seriously, the game is actually by Hudson and was made as a Bomberman spin-off. It was released here in the U.S. by Jaleco.

Why would Hudson Soft let Jaleco release this ultra-hard and near impossible NES game when they could have released it themselves allowing Jaleco to release Choplifter instead?

Few tips, but you might already know about them now. First, about 70% of the levels repeat themselves if you don't get the grail, or whatever the shining thing is. In this level, at 1:24, you see a small waterhole in between rocks. It is under the tree things three over to the right. Last thing, some levels have bonus areas. This one has one at the time of 3:13ish. The top wall, a cliff area is bombable. it is behind the first of the three columns of trees at the top. A rare item is there too.
