Ummmm Tennessee E. Ford was my fave' growing up that I learned this song from. Jan. 27, 2007 as my 45 yr. old Sweetie lieing there after being unplugged from life support systems; The doors + curtains closed; as I sat Holding my Babe's hand + Sang softly all these old songs his MaDear Loved + I knew she would be waiting to help him cross/over. I did it + I am so Happy I was there; I Thank Tenn.Ernie For being with me in spirit that day. I could hear his voice singing with me, WIthin. <3 To U
The years have sped so quickly by, but the voice of Tennessee Ernie Ford is just as alive and moving today as when he sang these hymns each week on his program. He was able to move the listener to tears, not out of sadness, but rather in the beauty and sincerity of his voice, a voice that will never be forgotten. You were and still are one of the best! May you always be remembered.
One of the greatest!!! When I was a kid I sould always sing 16 tons when I was by myself..BUT, his sacred songs were the best..an annointed voice!!! He is really missed!!!
TEF had an exceptional voice and was apparently a good man. This past week, I read RIVER OF NO RETURN, a bio of TEF by his son, Buck. It was a sad read. His marriage and family life was less than ideal, a fact which he kept carefully hidden from his adoring fans.
Sometimes the most sanctified and God gifted have the hardest time dealing with their own conflicted being...that the entire human race has inherited. He did his job very well, was a loving father, brave soldier in WW2, ran the race to the fullest and to the best he could, and then left a legacy of spiritual inspiration to millions. What else could anyone ask for?
I have to stop using the thumbs and write my own comment because every now and then I'll press the wrong one and I did it again to akakatydid and I don't see how I can take it back. I hope there is someone who will give him an extra + I LOVE TEF since I was a child and always will enjoy listening to him.

@MrJimjimboaz I agree with you, except I bet when he sings, the angels get quiet... so they can listen to him without distraction.

Amen to LadOdell,Rest in Peace Ernie.
I do not thank you can fake sincerity, and that is what Ole'Ernie brought to each song.
I hope to shake his hand, and hug his neck,on the other side.

"Shake his hand, hug his neck on the other side"
-That's something we do in the old south. The old Pea Picker has no equal in singing the old fashioned gospel songs. Amen..

Mr. Ford was one of the first voices I heard when I came here with my parents. He has been
a very special part of my life ever since, and
that's been 60+ years. RIP Ernie, we miss you.
