@Nerced -- Enzo means that of all the commanders of the submersible, they have to get the commander that doesn't drink or is too uptight. That's what Enzo meant. Did that help?
@Nerced alcoholics anonymous is an organization for alcoholics. It's usually referred to as "AA". It comes after detox & rehab. They have meetings which people attend. You get sobriety chips (like a medal) at various intervals. 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, etc of sobriety. As a former alcoholic and member of AA, you are never again supposed to drink alcohol. You must have similar organizations in Greece, but perhaps they are called something different.
Hahahaaa!!! absolutely amazing! This is the shit, its a great clip, I watch it every friday before leaving work and it always leaves me in a good mood :)
I sooooo love Jean Reno....OMG...he's one of the best most versatile actors in the world....I just want to eat him! gnom gnom gnom...yummy Jean Reno, I just ate him! lol
@sataraid - You just need to buy the extended version. It has a load of other good clips that isn't in the short version :-) Enjoy when you get there.
one thing, you can't light a cig at that depth... out of the fire zone...shit won't light. but the booze is great. i had a shot at rest stop at 500 on the way home and it was the best. the day at 4ft sucked the worst.
@stayjit1 because of the effect of hightened partial pressure of oxygen in a diving bell fires are more easily ignited. all flamable substances and electronics are banned from reputable diving bells and decompression chambers :-)
Please would someone post the scene showing the Japanese diving team from the directors cut (long version) where the Japanese diver faints before being able to dive.
Aha, an old Comex bell... and suits. Interesting that there is only about 3 metres of umbilical wrapped on the horns. Not sure if they were supposed to be breathing air or He but under normal dive conditions using Heliox at 450ft the oxygen content in the bell would be less than 5% - too low to sustain the burning of a cigarette.
@slackdave Alcohol dehydrates the body, it also widers the bloodvessels which makes the divers body colder much faster under water. The wided bloodwessel in conjunction with the depth forces the heart to work very hard, making it dangerous and possible for DCS bubbles in the blood, if you get it in the brain, ur fucked. Also alcohol can make you vomit, which is fatal underwater if you experience asphyxiation...
Alcohol also adds to Caisson Disease, and it could even make you pass out, which is dangerous when in high depth water. drunk divers have passed out in 30 m. water, and these guys are at 76 m. If the Caisson Disease is serious, it can lead to serious neurological symptoms.
Also smoking makes your beathing much worse. Carbon monoxide is still in your lungs several hours after your last smoke, which is dangerous when scubadiving, it can make you pass out because of lack of oxygen.
Because you get the feeling of being intoxicated when experiencing Nitrogen Narcosis, the alcohol adds too it so much that your feeling REALLY drunk :)
Holy shit, you seem to know a great deal bout that. I don't think they mentioned any of that during my diving course, years ago. I don't plan to do any drunk diving though, and not below 14 meters anyway!!
I didn't see this scene until I got the director's cut. This is such a great scene! It deepens the relationship between Jacques and Enzio (something the original version left out) and is funny! Awesome movie.
try speaking to me.... I dont find this funny we were having a serious conversation lololololololololol xD so funny i love this film xD Enzo is the Awesome!

@gjc82071 Yes, yes I know my friend. Thanks for the information. In Greece yeah we have the same AA organization but i think that it's too "poor".

It's sad that this scene is cut in the "short version" of The Big Blue, which explains why many people haven't seen it.

@cubismo85 narcosis comes from nitrogen which would not be present in a Heliox atmosphere.
