I did 1268 double-strokes at Guiness, Copenhagen, summer 2007. The world-record was 1071. A year later I did 1104 while being filmed by Danish Television to the program "Goaften Danmark".

Later, I found out that there's two kind of records: Singlestroke and double stroke....

AND Guiness had found a Spanish guy, named Arias Pellitero, who had done 1507 single stroke beats, which may be considered as the world record.

Have seen around 2300 beats pr min on Youtube - double strokes..

It shows technical proficiency, which, like it or not, is required in many ways to write good drum parts. Look at any song; chances are, there are rudiments present. If you can play your rudiments, then you can fit into most songs while keeping time, an essential element of a good drummer.

The way you can do that is simple! It takes practice, but as you hit the drum, you let the stick bounce a few times (which is why you lightly hold it in your hand) and as you move your hands up and down, you get more that 2 hits! ;D

ah what a pussy, his stick hieght is so low. his technique is HORRIBLE! there a guy on youtube who did like 1233 with control, his stick height was about 9 inches off the head and then he switched to traditional grip and finished it up. he was so relaxed to. this kid is so stiff. any one of my friends can do 1053 with horrible technique. me and my friends can get 896 with high stick hieghts

guys it really depends on the instrument like for e.g, death/thrash metal drummers just play blast and I don't hear any rhythm in that. This is a fun part of drumming and if you take it seriously it's a good way to test your endurance. To play drums you'll need to have rhythm, dynamics, feel, groove and to play fast you'll just need your fingers and the endurance for it, it's like saying a  marathon runner can't run his race at a sprinters pace because to finish he will need to pace himself.

Yeah ok you got a point, good on him for such a great effort but his tensing up can cause some serious damage in the long run, the better technique is with fingers because they contain smaller muscles that can twitch faster than the forearm muscles. My point is that there is a time and place for everything, there's a time where drumming requires you to play music and there's a time where you can blast those single strokes and have fun. That's what people gotta understand.

Death/thrash metal drumming takes some of the most technique of any style. It's one of the hardest styles to learn. Listen to the Architects for example. Amazing technique and rhythm. People say metal drummer's arn't drummers because they can't play metal themselves.

O.k, in drumming there are many ways to apply your technique, may it be using your wrists, fingers and even your entire forearm. To play with power you'll use arm and wrist and that sacrifices speed, to play fast you'll need to use mostly fingers and that sacrifices power. It all depends on what you are doing on the drums. If your playing to a song, use arms/wrist, if you want to try and be the fastest drummer in the world Like Mike, Tom and Jotan, use fingers.

actually, travis is a very skilled drummer. one thing to note is that he does NOT use double bass. not saying drummers with double bass arent good, but double bass allows you to sit back and relax with yer stickwork, and travis doesnt do that.
